What is the Selection Procedure of the Territorial Army?
First TA exam will be conducted.
Candidates who clear the TA Exam will be called for a short PIB interview also known as Preliminary Interview Board.
One who is selected in PIB will be called for 5 Days SSB Interview.
One who is recommended by the SSB board will go for the Medical Board.
One who is declared fit by the medical board will wait for the final merit list.
Based on the merit list, they will get the Joining Letter.

An impressive Maroon Beret Ceremonial Parade (MBCP) was held on 17 July 2021 at Garud Regimental Training Centre, Air Force Station Chandinagar to mark the successful completion of training of 69 Air Force Special Forces Operatives (Garud). Air Commodore K Khajuria VSM, Air Commodore Operations (Offensive), reviewed the Passing Out Parade as the Chief Guest of the event.
The Chief Guest awarded the coveted trophies to the meritorious trainees and presented the Maroon Beret, Garud proficiency Badge and special forces tabs to successful Garud trainees. The best all rounder trophy was presented to LAC Akhoka Muivah. In his address to the young Garud Commandos, the Chief Guest emphasised on the need for the trainees to maintain high levels of professionalism. He also congratulated the training staff for their hard work and exhorted them to keep the pennant flying high.
During the parade, the Garuds carried out demonstrations to showcase various skills such as Combat Firing Skill, Hostage Rescue Firing Drill, Assault Explosives, Obstacle Crossing Drill, Wall Climbing/ Slithering/ Rappelling Skills & Military Martial Arts.
Maroon Beret Ceremonial Parade is a moment of pride and achievement for Garuds, marking the culmination of their training signifying transformation into ‘Young Special Forces Operators’.
Indian Navy accepted the first two of its MH-60R Multi Role Helicopters (MRH) from US Navy in a ceremony held at Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego on 16 Jul 21.
The ceremony marked the formal transfer of these helicopters from US Navy to Indian Navy, which were accepted by His Excellency Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Indian Ambassador to USA. The ceremony also witnessed exchange of helicopter documents between Vice Adm Kenneth Whitesell, Commander Naval Air Forces, US Navy and Vice Adm Ravneet Singh, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (DCNS), Indian Navy.
MH-60R helicopters manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corporation, USA is an all-weather helicopter designed to support multiple missions with state of the art avionics/ sensors. 24 of these helicopters are being procured under Foreign Military Sales from the US Government. The helicopters would also be modified with several India Unique Equipment and weapons.

STANDARD: The standard of the papers in Elementary Mathematics will be a Matriculation level. The standard of papers in other subjects will approximately be such as may be expected of a graduate of an Indian university.
SYLLABUS: Paper – I. Reasoning and Elementary Mathematics. (a) Part – 1. Reasoning. The question paper will be designed to test the candidates ability to complete sequences making logical conclusion based on simple patter of numbers, statements, figures, letters etc as may be expected of a rational thinking person without any special study of the subject. (b) Part – 2. Elementary Mathematics. (i) Arithmetic. Number System – natural numbers, integers, rational and real numbers. Fundamental operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square roots, decimal fraction. (ii) Unitary Method. The paper will also include questions on history of India and geography of nature which candidates should be able to answer without special study. (b) Part – 2. English. CANDIDATES TO ENSURE THEIR ELIGIBILITY FOR THE EXAMINATION: The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfil all eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. Mere issue of Admission Certificate to the candidate will not imply that his candidature has been finally cleared by the competent authority.
TIME: Maximum time for each paper is 02 hrs and will be conducted in two sessions.
TYPE OF EXAM: Objective (OMR Answer Sheet will be used).
QUALIFYING MARKS: Minimum 40% marks in each part of the paper separately and overall average of 50%.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:
Territorial Army is part time concept with mandatory two months training in a year and does not provide full time career.
Serving in Territorial Army do not guarantee pension and the same is subject to embodied service as per organisational requirement.
Commission is granted in the rank of Lieutenant.
Pay and Allowances and privileges will be same as Regular Army Officers when embodied for training and military service.
Promotions upto Lt Col by time scale subject to fulfilling laid down criteria. Promotion to Colonel and Brigadier by selection.
Officers commissioned in Infantry TA may be called out for military service for longer duration depending on the requirement.

How TA will check you are gainfully employed or not? : During your PIB interview, you need to submit the latest Income latest income proof from the appropriate authority and Income Tax Return documents, that will explain your monthly salary/income.
UPSC has published the CDS 2 2020 merit list, a total of 129 candidates have made it in this merit list. CDS 2 2020 OTA merit list will be published separately later. The following are the lists, in order of merit of 129 (71 + 49 + 09) candidates who have qualified on the basis of the results of the Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2020 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission in November, 2020 and SSB interviews held by the Services Selection Board of the Ministry of Defence for admission to the 151 (DE) Course of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun; Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala and Air Force Academy, Hyderabad (Pre-Flying) Training Course i.e. No. 210F(P) Course.
There are some common candidates in the three lists for various courses. The number of vacancies, as intimated by the Government is 100 for Indian Military Academy [including 13 vacancies reserved for NCC ‘C’ certificates (Army Wing) holders], 26 for Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala Executive(General Service)/Hydro[including 06 vacancies reserved for NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders (Naval Wing)] and 32 for Air Force Academy, Hyderabad [03 vacancies are reserved for NCC ’C’ Certificate (Air Wing) holders through NCC Spl. Entry].
The Commission had recommended 2702, 1246 and 0607 as qualified in the written test for admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy, respectively. The number of candidates finally qualified is those after SSB test conducted by Army Head Quarters.
The results of Medical examination have not been taken into account in preparing these lists.
Verification of date of birth and educational qualifications of these candidates is still under process by the Army Headquarters. The candidature of all these candidates is, therefore, Provisional on this score. Candidates are requested to forward their certificates, in original, in support of Date of Birth/Educational qualification etc. claimed by them, along with Photostat attested copies thereof to Army Headquarters /Naval Headquarters /Air Headquarters, as per their first choice.
These results will also be available on the UPSC website at http://www.upsc.gov.in. However, marks of the candidates will be available on the website after declaration of final result of Officers’ Training Academy (OTA) for Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2020.

Manik Turan from Karnal has achieved AIR-4 in NDA 2 2020 examination. He has scored 605 marks in the NDA written exam and 457 marks in his SSB interview. Manik is a cadet of RIMC Dehradun and belongs to a defence background. In an interview with SSBCrack, Manik has shared the life experiences that he has gained during his schooling and NDA preparation.
SSBCrack: Manik, tell us something about your family background?
Manik: I belong to Karnal, Haryana. My father’s name is Mr. Satbir Singh Turan. He is an ex-servicemen. He served in the Army Education Core of the Indian Army. He retired at the rank of Naib Subedar. Currently, he is a govt teacher in Karnal, Haryana. My mother’s name is Mrs. Sunita Rani Turan. She is also a govt teacher in Karnal. My father has 3 brothers. Two of them are also ex-servicemen. One retired at the rank of Subedar from Signals. Another served in the Indian Air Force.
SSBCrack: Tell us about your educational background?
Manik: I completed my primary education from SB Mission School, Karnal. It is not a school with very good infrastructure. But I believe that the level of education in this school was very good and it formed my base for the RIMC entrance exam. I cleared the RIMC exam in my third and final attempt. I joined RIMC on 20 July 2016. I appeared for 10th Boards from RIMC, Dehradun, and secured 90 % marks. Afterward, I prepared for my NDA written and SSB and made it in my 1st attempt.
SSBCrack: What was your motivation to join the RIMC and NDA?
Manik: At a very young age, I was not very sure about what I should become our do in the future. My father told me to appear for RIMC exam so that I can get a feel of the competitive exams. So I wanted to do well in the exam as I had always done in my school. So that was my motivation to work hard and clear it. So it was after I came to RIMC that I saw the environment in the forces, the things and opportunities forces have to offer, the friends we make, the people we come across, and of course the price of wearing the uniform. So I developed an interest in the forces. I also realized that this was my chance to further my family’s legacy by becoming the first officer in the family. Also, it was my parent’s dream to see me in the uniform. All these things were my motivation to work hard. I made it my goal to fulfill my parent’s dreams.
SSBCrack: Tell us about your preparation for NDA and SSB?
Manik: Since I knew from the very beginning that I have to take the NDA exam, I prepared myself well. I made proper notes since the start of my 11th standard so I did not have the burden that the syllabus is vast. I did my preparation gradually and consistently, step by step. I made daily schedules for myself, set up short-term goals, and revised regularly. So that was enough for the written exam. Now I did not exactly do any specific preparation for SSB. My preparation started the day I joined RIMC. I did all the things which my seniors and teachers told me properly. Now I just had to assemble and organise all things that I had learned in RIMC. I only practiced a few psych tests. And I had made it a routine to read the newspaper after my written exam was over. So in SSB, I performed well and got through.
SSBCrack: What is your choice of service and why?
Manik: When I joined RIMC, I only knew that I had to join defence forces, which one? I did not know. This choice was made later in my senior terms. After meeting many officers, I decided Navy since I am good at studies, and it’s something different. I did want to join the air force but as a pilot. But it was not possible because I knew I will have medical issues. So I came to the Navy as a conclusion.
SSBCrack: What are your message for the defence aspirants and future warriors?
Manik: Many people ask me and the others that hour much time we should study when we should study, what should we study. I would like to tell them they every person is different. Every person understands things differently. Some may understand a thing at once while others may time. What they need to realise is that they have to introspect and find out what is good for them not for others. Yes, they can take inputs but the decision has to be made by them. And planning is very important along with consistency. There is no shortcut to success. They have to give their all. They need to make plans which suit them and follow them religiously, improvise. And SSB is a gradual process. We can’t change ourselves in 10 days. It takes time and sincere effort. We have to take inputs from our teachers, parents, and friends. We have to be receptive and work on its grey areas. If we do so, there is nothing that can stop us. Finally all the best to everyone for their upcoming exams.
SSBCrack: It was nice talking to you, any word for Team SSBCrack?
Manik: I would only say that teams like you help the defence aspirants to achieve their aim and you provide them with the required motivation through your posts and Stories. It is an amazing task. So, all the best for the future ahead.
Consequent to the landmark judgement of the Hon’ble Supreme Court for grant of Permanent Commission (PC) to Women Officers in Indian Army, a Special Number 5 Selection Board for screening Women Officers for grant of PC was constituted in September 2020 and results were declared in November 2020. Further, in March 2021, the Hon’ble Supreme Court had directed to re-consider some cases of Women Officers who were not granted PC by laying down revised parameters for grant of PC.

The Women Officers were re-considered as per directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and fresh results have now been de-classified. Consequently, 147 more Women Officers are being granted PC, taking the total PC granted to 424 out of the 615 officers considered. Results of few Women Officers have been withheld for administrative reasons and awaiting outcome of the clarification petition filed by the UOI in the Hon’ble Supreme Court.
All Women Officers granted PC would undergo special training courses and challenging military assignments to empower them for higher leadership roles in the Indian Army. A batch of 33 Women Officers has already successfully completed the Mid Level Tactical Orientation Course from Army War College Mhow recently.
Further, all Women Officers who were considered in this Special Number 5 Selection Board and not granted PC, will yet be eligible for pension subject to serving for a minimum of 20 years in service. Some Women Officers who have already served for 20 years have been released with pension, while others will be allowed to continue to serve till 20 years and would be released with pension.
PC to Women Officers in junior batches has also commenced from December 2020, in which they are considered for PC in their 10th year of service. With grant of PC, the Women Officers are transcending into an era of gender parity and are gearing up to assume challenging leadership roles, akin to their male counterparts.
