Indian Air Force Pilot Facing Court Martial Alleges Torture By Superior

0

The officer has complained that he is facing severe torture in detention and fears for his life in custody. The high-flying career of a transport pilot of the Indian Air Force, who is facing a General Court Martial at a missile base in Mumbai on charges ranging from assaulting his superior officer to ones like not eating food and stealing remote controls at the Officers’ mess, says that his life has been put in jeopardy all because of an ego clash with his superiors after an injury.

19 CHARGES LEVELED
A total of 19 charges have been leveled against Flight Lieutenant Maan Pal Singh Godara. He has been kept under detention by the Air Force at a remote air base in Thane district of Maharashtra.

However, the officer has complained that he is facing severe torture in detention and fears for his life in custody.

He has now written to Air Force chief Arup Raha pleading his case. The Indian Air Force did not respond to a detailed query from Mail Today despite taking four days to give its version on the alleged plight of the officer.iaf

TIMELINE OF EVENTS

The young officer, who is married to naval officer Deepika Chowdhary, was allowed to attend to his pregnant wife just before his delivery after the intervention of the Mumbai High Court last year. Deepika had led the Naval contingent at the Republic Day parade two years ago

Godara, who had won gold medal for the IAF in national shooting championship, has claimed in his plea to the IAF chief that he has been facing harassment and is being victimized by his superiors since 2013 after he suffered a grievous knee injury.

His father Bhanu Pratap Godara, a retired teacher from the Rajasthan Education Board, said his son’s plight started after his son was found medically unfit to fly Antonov-32 transport aircraft due to an injury suffered in service and was posted to Bhuj where there were no medical facilities to treat his knee.

After he sought transfer from Bhuj to a place where he could get his knee treated properly, the commanding officer there took the matter to his heart and refused to do so despite recommendation by seniors,” his father said

The officer claimed that after his repeated pleas for a transfer to an air base in Mumbai for treatment, he was posted at a remote location in Thane district, which is 130 kms away from the naval hospital.flight-lieutenant-maan-pal-singh-godara

He said that his career has been destroyed due to the denial of proper treatment by his superiors. Godara was declared permanently unfit to fly a transport aircraft on April 21 this year as he could not recuperate within the two years mandatory period.

The officer, whose grandfather was an Army officer and served as ADC (Aidede-Camp) to first President of India Rajendra Prasad and brother is a decorated naval fighter pilot, was also warned that if his family raised voice against his ill treatment, action would be taken against him, he alleged.

The officer further alleged that after his uncle wrote a letter to the defence minister and the Chief of Air Staff, he was issued a show cause notice on June 7 this year.

CAREERS COMPROMISED

This despite the Defence Ministry clarifying that writing directly to the minister or the ministry is not an offence and cannot be made a basis for taking action against an officer

The officer has now pleaded that both his and his wife’s careers have been compromised after both of them were posted in and near Mumbai and requested for a posting to Delhi.

SOME CHARGES FRIVOLOUS

The IAF has, so far, not responded to the pleas of the young officer, and started his court martial proceedings in closed arrest for over 60 days in Mumbai. Of the 19 charges slapped against him, some are of a ‘frivolous’ nature like stealing data cables and TV remote controls from the officers’ mess.

Know All About Indo-China Exercise, Hand in Hand 2016

exercise hand in hand 2016

In an attempt to promote healthy military-to-military relations between India and China, India has organised the annual Indo-China joint military exercise, Hand in Hand 2016 from November 15 to 27 in Pune.

Here’s are 7 key points of Hand in Hand 2016:

exercise hand in hand 2016

  1. This is the sixth such joint exercise being organised between the two countries. The first exercise was held in China’s Kunming of Yunnan province in 2007. The last exercise was held on October 15, 2015, at the Kunming Military Academy in China.
  2. The 2016 Hand in Hand Exercise has been planned at the company level with respective battalion headquarters controlling the training. The exercise will be supervised by a joint directing panel comprising senior officials of both the nations.
  3. The exercise seeks to promote healthy military to military relations between the two armies and developing joint strategies for conducting operations in a counter-terrorism environment.
  4. It will be conducted in three phases. The first phase will consist of familiarisation with weapons and equipment. The second phase will consist of basic training that includes combat conditioning, support weapon and practice of drills like the establishment of covert observation post, the firing of personal weapon, house clearing, cordon and search and humanitarian and disaster relief operations. The third phase of the exercise is the conduct of the joint exercise.
  5. This exercise will enrich the two contingents of both armies in further honing basic military skills.
  6. The exercise between two neighbours contributes immensely in developing mutual understanding and respect for each other’s military.
  7. The exercise will be attended by the senior military observers of both countries.

Earlier this year, in February and again in October, Indian and Chinese troops had participated in a joint exercise, Sino-Indian Cooperation 2016, first ever time to be held in eastern Ladakh’s Chushul Garrison. These exercises were seen as efforts complementing the ‘Hand in Hand’ series of joint exercises which is being held now.

17 Pictures Show The Routine Of A Indian Navy Cadet

0
indian-navy-cadet-routine

The cadet gets up early in the morning before the sunrays dawn upon the earth. This time doesn’t change be it sunny, windy, rainy, and cold, the time is always the same, it isn’t your regular school to delay your start or totally cancel it off owing to bad weather, it is the navy and one needs to go on. Now he is ready to go for his drill, swimming, physical training, small arms training, horse riding or watermanship training in the morning. Thereafter he changes into his uniform and prepares his own cabin in a presentable state. He then goes for a sumptuous breakfast to mess followed by classroom instructions.

Yes all this happens before you even start your academic day. Then cadets go through the regular B Tech subjects and some of the tough service subjects for the next four hours in classrooms which would put even the finest of internationally renowned colleges to shame. They are attached with the state of the art training aids to help instructors impart knowledge in the most efficient manner possible.

When the average Indian catches his sleep or at the very least would like to stay indoors is the time not to waste. After having lunch and a little amount of rest training resumes in the form of games like basketball, volleyball, hockey, football, squash, table tennis, lawn tennis, etc or maybe a cross country run practice around the beautiful sceneries of woods, beaches, gardens and hilltops. Another option is to go for water sports, be it sailing, windsurfing, rowing, kayaking or the coveted pulling. One can even be involved on a certain club day on various types of activities which are definitely not so easy to get in the outside world.

One must even endure sometimes a combination of the above mentioned activities but in good spirit so as to have considerable experience of everything rather than being a jack of all trades and a master of none. The task might seem heavy and maybe even impossible to a common person but it definitely is possible and is being undertaken by everyone here.

Indian Navy Cadet 1 Indian Navy Cadet 2 Indian Navy Cadet 3 Indian Navy Cadet 4 Indian Navy Cadet 5 Indian Navy Cadet 6 Indian Navy Cadet 7 Indian Navy Cadet 8 Indian Navy Cadet 9 Indian Navy Cadet 10 Indian Navy Cadet 11 Indian Navy Cadet 12 Indian Navy Cadet 13 Indian Navy Cadet 14 Indian Navy Cadet 15 Indian Navy Cadet 16 Indian Navy Cadet 17

After going through these activities one is definitely in the need of some refreshment which comes in the form of the own time one gets. One may choose to rest in cabin, go to the cafeteria, grocery shop or even the Pongo ice cream shop to refresh oneself. After the own time it’s time for some serious studying and cadets engage themselves in a strict study period, going through notes or other electronic aids provided on the academy’s LAN. This takes place till it’s time for dinner. Now it’s time for physical training for the relatively weak, some studies for the relatively weak and some squadron building time with juniors running to their seniors for specific help be it any field, seniors coming down to ensure all juniors do their duties and undergo training and nobody gets through unnoticed.

When the most hardworking of Indians would also give up its tattoo period here in the academy. One stays inside cabin to prepare for a new day tomorrow, be it uniforms, assignments, some tests or improving the general state of the cabin. All this done in a single days’ time would definitely have taken maybe a week to do outside but this compact schedule is what makes it tough. By the time its 10’o clock in the night the cadet has no energy left except to go towards his bed and mind you what a satisfying feeling that is to lie in bed after a complete day but one cannot enjoy that cause the body is just too tired to stay awake.

Cheer Up, Aspirants, Air Force To Relax Medical Norms For Pilot Selection

0
indian-air-force-pilot

Since there is no scientific evidence to support notions such as spinal deformities affect flying, the Air Force will soon modify its medical norms for pilot selection for new applicants.

A panel has been formed by IAF comprising spinal surgeons, neurosurgeons, physicians, radiologists and it was concluded that there is no evidence to show spinal deformities can affect flight safety and physical capability and conditioning of the pilots.

This means, taking medication for blood pressure or undergoing a laser eye surgery will no longer make an IAF pilot ineligible for flying.

Also, with new medical technologies and better drugs available for treatment, several ailments such as asthma, diabetes, coronary heart diseases and hypertension may also go off the list.

The Medical Board of the Air Force has also removed 19 drugs like anti-diabetics off the list, which were earlier considered as a “taboo” for flying.

. Rest are in the pipeline and decision is likely in 7-10 days.iaf-pilot

Certain abnormalities, however, like disk degeneration will be taken up on a case-to-case basis.

These norms are said to have been relaxed to increase the number of pilots in the Air Force, which is suffering not only from a depleting squadron strength, but also from manpower crunch.

The pilot-cockpit ratio in IAF was only 0.81 for fighter jets as compared to the sanctioned ratio of 1.25 for fighters, 1.5 for transport planes and 1 for helicopters.

Exercise SAMPRITI 2016 Kicks Off Between India and Bangladesh

0
exercise-sampriti-2016

Exercise SAMPRITI is a bilateral defense cooperation between India and Bangladesh, hosted alternately by both countries.

This year’s SAMPRITI, 2016 is hosted in the semi-mountainous and jungle terrain of Bangabandhu Senanibas in Tangail of Bangladesh.

Here are the key points of this exercise:

SAMPRITI 2016

  1. SAMPRITI 2016 is the sixth edition of this exercise. It is being held at Shaheed Salauddin Cantonment in Dhaka.
  2. The Indian Army contingent is represented by a company of the Mahar Regiment, led by Col P S Sandhi. It consists of a troop strength of 120 soldiers.
  3. The joint exercise SAMPRITI 2016 will simulate a scenario where both nations are working together in a counter insurgency and counter terrorism environment under the UN Charter.
  4. The exercise curriculum is progressively planned where the participants will initially get familiar with each other’s organizational structure and tactical drills.
  5. Subsequently, the training will advance to joint tactical exercises wherein the battle drills of both the armies will be practiced.
  6. The training will culminate with a final validation exercise in which troops of both armies will jointly practice a Counter-Terrorist Operation in a controlled and simulated environment.
  7. This 14-day long engagement will go on from November 5 to 18.

The first edition of the exercise in this series was held at Jorhat in Assam in 2010. Last year’s exercise, SAMPRITI 2015 was held at Binnaguri in north Bengal.
