India-UK Executive Steering Group Meeting Explores Cooperation in Information Warfare

The 13th India-UK Executive Steering Group meeting, a vital platform fostering cooperation and strategic dialogue between the Indian Army and the British Army, was held in London from May 1st to May 2nd, 2024.

The meeting saw the convergence of military leaders from both nations, signaling a commitment to deepen bilateral ties and explore avenues for collaboration in the domain of Information Warfare.

Led by Major General Abhinai Rai, the Additional Director General of Special Projects (ADG SP) of the Indian Army, the Indian delegation engaged in constructive discussions with their British counterparts, led by Major General Jonathan Swift.

The focal point of deliberations revolved around the evolving landscape of Information Warfare, a domain gaining increasing prominence in modern military strategies.

As part of the agenda, the delegations visited the specialist British Information Warfare Brigade, delving into advanced techniques and methodologies employed in this critical sphere.

The exchange of ideas and experiences aimed to enhance mutual understanding and identify potential areas of cooperation to address emerging challenges effectively.

Speaking on the significance of the meeting, Major General Rai emphasized the need for robust collaboration in combating threats in the cyber domain.

He underscored the importance of leveraging technology and expertise to safeguard national interests and maintain strategic advantage in the digital age.

Similarly, Major General Swift highlighted the shared commitment of India and the UK in countering evolving threats, including those originating from cyberspace.

He emphasized the importance of synergy and collaboration to stay ahead of adversaries and protect critical infrastructure and information assets.

In addition to discussions on Information Warfare, the meeting provided a platform to assess broader areas of cooperation in defense and security between India and the UK.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across various domains, including joint exercises, training programs, and defense technology collaborations.

Before the official engagements commenced, the Indian delegation paid a courtesy call on Mr. Vikram Doraswami, the Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, at the India House.
