In a step toward strengthening technology-driven military operations, the Indian Army’s Southern Command unveiled its cutting-edge Digital Sand Model Project during a high-level review at Jodhpur Military Station.
Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, visited the Bogra Brigade, where he assessed operational preparedness and reviewed the integration of advanced training tools. The highlight of the visit was the demonstration of the Pioneer Digital Sand Model, developed under the Make in India initiative by technology startup VizExperts.

Traditionally, sand models have been used for operational planning and training, but this digital version replaces them with a dynamic 3D geospatial system. The new platform offers real-time terrain mapping, interactive visualization, and enhanced situational awareness, significantly improving the decision-making process in combat and operational scenarios.
Lt Gen Seth was briefed on the brigade’s operational plans, training innovations, and efforts to absorb emerging technologies. He praised the initiative, noting that the Southern Command is steadily moving toward becoming a future-ready and agile force.

The Southern Command, established in 1895, carries a distinguished history, having played decisive roles in the 1961 liberation of Goa and the integration of Junagadh and Hyderabad post-independence. Experts highlight that adopting digital systems like the Pioneer Digital Sand Model could improve decision-making speed by up to 30%, reinforcing the Army’s drive for modernization.

The demonstration reflects the Indian Army’s broader commitment to technological transformation, ensuring its forces remain prepared to meet the evolving demands of modern warfare.
