In a remarkable academic milestone, the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT-Deemed University), Pune, has announced that 10% of its faculty members have been featured in the Stanford–Elsevier Global Top 2% Scientists list, recognising the world’s most influential researchers across disciplines.
The five DIAT faculty members named in this prestigious list are:
- Prof. P. K. Khanna
- Prof. C. S. Unnikrishnan
- Prof. Prashant Kulkarni
- Prof. A. A. Bazil Raj
- Prof. Balasubramanian K.
The Stanford University list, published in collaboration with Elsevier, identifies the top 2% of scientists globally based on standardized citation metrics, which assess both career-long and single-year impact across 22 scientific disciplines and 174 subfields. Approximately 2,30,000 top scientists from around the world are featured in this database.
Three DIAT professors Prof. P. K. Khanna, Prof. Balasubramanian K., and Prof. C. S. Unnikrishnan have been recognised in both the 2024 single-year and career-long categories, reaffirming their consistent contribution to scientific excellence.

The institute’s multidisciplinary work spans areas such as materials science, defence technology, aerospace systems, and artificial intelligence, contributing significantly to India’s self-reliance goals in the defence sector.
