Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi held talks with Lieutenant General Md Mainur Rahman of the Bangladesh Army on the sidelines of the United Nations Training and Cooperation Conference (UNTCC) 2025. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing defence cooperation, training partnerships, and coordination in UN peacekeeping operations.
In a post shared on X, the Indian Army stated, “On the sidelines of UNTCC 2025, General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS, held a constructive and productive discussion with Lieutenant General Md Mainur Rahman, Bangladesh Army. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment in strengthening defence cooperation, training and coordination in UN peacekeeping.”
The meeting reflects the sustained momentum in India-Bangladesh military engagements, focusing on mutual trust building, strategic coordination, and capacity building under multilateral frameworks. Both sides highlighted their shared vision of maintaining peace and stability in the region while promoting collaboration in defence technology and humanitarian operations.
Earlier, on August 28, BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chowdhury, during a joint press conference with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Dhaka, noted that collaboration between security agencies of both countries continues to be strong. Emphasizing lawful measures against illegal border crossings, he revealed that around 550 Bangladeshi nationals had been handed over to BGB during recent months, in accordance with established bilateral protocols.
He also mentioned that over 2,400 verification cases of Bangladeshi nationals remain pending with the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, some for over five years. Chowdhury highlighted the operational coordination between BGB and BSF for timely processing and deportation through agreed mechanisms, ensuring humanitarian considerations for those without criminal intent.
The latest discussions between General Dwivedi and Lieutenant General Rahman underscore the deepening military partnership between India and Bangladesh, reinforcing their shared commitment to peacekeeping, regional stability, and cooperative defence development.
