Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, visited forward areas in the Central Sector to review the Indian Armyโs operational preparedness, motivate troops deployed in challenging terrain, and strengthen civil-military relations in the strategically vital Kumaon region.
During his visit, General Dwivedi inspected high-altitude posts in Pithoragarh and nearby forward locations, where he was briefed on the operational posture and ongoing capability enhancements. The review included assessments of advanced surveillance systems, specialist mobility platforms, next-generation technologies, reconnaissance integration, and coordination with allied security agencies. The Army Chief lauded the professionalism, tactical innovation, and unwavering discipline displayed by personnel operating in demanding climatic conditions and rugged terrain.
Interacting with soldiers deployed in remote areas, General Dwivedi commended their courage, resilience, and steadfast devotion to duty, underscoring the Armyโs motto of โService Before Self.โ He reassured them of the Armyโs full preparedness to counter evolving security challenges along Indiaโs borders.
The Chief also met with veterans and local residents, appreciating their contributions to the nation and extending heartfelt Diwali greetings to all ranks and their families. Emphasizing the strategic importance of the Kumaon region, which borders Nepal and China, General Dwivedi praised the strong sense of patriotism and fortitude among the local population.
Highlighting the regionโs rich martial heritage, he invoked the legacy of the Kumaon Regiment and reviewed developmental initiatives being implemented under Operation Sadbhavna and the Vibrant Village Programme. These initiatives include infrastructure upgrades such as hybrid power projects, improved road connectivity, community medical camps, agricultural support through polyhouses, and the promotion of eco-friendly tourism via tent-based homestays in Garbyang and Kalapani.
General Dwivedi emphasized that the Indian Armyโs presence in Kumaon exemplifies โstrength with compassion,โ balancing its operational role in border defense with its commitment to upliftment of local communities.
