In a landmark step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and logistics self-reliance, the Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with six leading defence industry partners to establish New Generation Vehicle (NGV) Repair Hubs and Warehouses in the remote high-altitude areas of Ladakh.
A Major Boost to Operational Readiness
The new NGV Repair Hub and Warehouse network will cater to maintenance and repair of modern military vehicles deployed in the harsh terrain of Ladakh. This initiative will significantly reduce equipment downtime, improve turnaround time for critical assets, and ensure enhanced operational readiness of field formations operating in extreme conditions.
By establishing the facility closer to deployment zones, the Indian Army aims to minimize logistical challenges and dependence on distant repair bases. The move aligns perfectly with the governmentโs Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, strengthening indigenous capability in defence maintenance and logistics.
Inauguration at Leh
The facility was inaugurated at Leh by Lt Gen Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps, in the presence of representatives from all collaborating defence Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The ceremony marked a milestone moment in the evolution of military logistics in the region, highlighting the synergy between the armed forces and the Indian defence industry.
Collaboration for Self-Reliance
The six partnering defence companies are expected to provide technical expertise, spare parts support, and advanced diagnostic solutions tailored to the unique operational requirements of high-altitude areas. This collaboration underscores the Armyโs commitment to fostering public-private partnership models in defence logistics and maintenance.
Towards a Self-Sustaining Logistics Ecosystem
The establishment of these hubs reflects a strategic shift towards creating a self-sustaining ecosystem for maintenance and logistics within forward areas. It will not only enhance the serviceability of NGVs but also empower local technical manpower through skill development and employment opportunities in Ladakh.
With this forward-looking initiative, the Fire and Fury Corps has set a new benchmark in operational logistics combining innovation, collaboration, and self-reliance to strengthen Indiaโs defence preparedness in its northernmost frontiers.
