The Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) has unveiled a landmark “Military Quantum Mission Policy Framework”, laying down a comprehensive policy and roadmap for the integration of quantum technologies into the Indian Defence Forces to achieve technological dominance in future wars amid a rapidly evolving global security environment.
The guiding document aims to institutionalise the adoption of four critical pillars of quantum technology—Quantum Computing, Quantum Materials and Devices, Quantum Communication, and Quantum Sensing and Metrology. A key emphasis of the framework is ensuring jointness across the Services in integrating these niche and cutting-edge capabilities into military operations.
The vision document was released by General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), in the presence of Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), and Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS).
The Military Quantum Mission Policy Framework is expected to serve as a foundational reference for research, development, and operational adoption of quantum technologies, strengthening India’s preparedness for technology-driven future conflicts and reinforcing the Armed Forces’ pursuit of self-reliance, jointness, and strategic superiority.
