Anurag Garg, IPS, Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), accompanied by the Deputy Director General, NCB (North East Region) and the Zonal Director, NCB Imphal, visited Moreh on the Indo–Myanmar border to review ground-level measures against drug trafficking and narcotics abuse.
During the visit, the DG NCB assessed the prevailing border vigilance and anti-drug trafficking mechanisms in the sensitive border region. He held detailed discussions with the Superintendent of Police, Tengnoupal district, and the Commanding Officer of the Assam Rifles, focusing on strengthening coordination among enforcement agencies to effectively combat cross-border drug trafficking networks. The interactions emphasised intelligence sharing, joint operations, and sustained vigilance along vulnerable routes used by organised drug syndicates.

As part of the demand-reduction efforts, Anurag Garg also visited a de-addiction centre run by a non-governmental organisation in Moreh. He interacted with the staff and inmates of the centre, appreciating their determination and resilience in overcoming addiction. The DG encouraged inmates to become ambassadors of change by sharing their personal experiences to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of early intervention and rehabilitation.

The visit underscored the NCB’s comprehensive approach to tackling the drug menace through a balanced strategy of supply reduction, border vigilance, enforcement coordination, and demand reduction through rehabilitation and community engagement. It also reaffirmed the Government of India’s resolve to secure border regions from narcotics trafficking while supporting recovery and reintegration of affected individuals into society.
