In a remarkable story of courage and resilience, Major Nitish Kumar Singh (Retd), a former Indian Army officer and NDA alumnus, has cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025 with an All India Rank (AIR) of 305.
Hailing from Begusarai, Bihar, Major Singh was grievously injured during an anti-terror operation in Shopian, South Kashmir, in 2017 while serving in the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME). Despite sustaining serious injuries in the line of duty, he demonstrated extraordinary determination to rebuild his life and pursue a new path of service.
Undeterred by his setbacks, he prepared for one of India’s toughest examinations and successfully secured a place in the civil services. He is now set to join the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie for training.
Major Singh’s journey—from defending the nation on the frontlines to entering the administrative services—stands as a powerful testament to perseverance, dedication, and the spirit of “Service Before Self.”
His achievement not only inspires aspiring candidates but also highlights the indomitable spirit of India’s armed forces personnel who continue to serve the nation in multiple capacities, even beyond their military careers.
