A 19-year-old aspiring soldier from Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district gave a new lease of life to several patients after his family agreed to donate his organs following his death in a tragic road accident.
Jigyanshu, a resident of Rasoolpur Aheeran village, was declared brain-dead at Santokba Durlabji Memorial Hospital (SDMH) in Jaipur after suffering severe head injuries in the accident.
The young aspirant, son of farmer Dalip Singh, had completed Class 12 last year and was preparing to join the Indian Army. According to family members, serving the nation in uniform was his lifelong dream.
The accident occurred on the night of May 23 near the Pacheribadi area while he was travelling on his motorcycle to withdraw cash from an ATM. He was initially admitted to a hospital in Narnaul before being shifted to Jaipur as his condition deteriorated.
Despite intensive medical efforts, doctors at SDMH could not save him. Following counselling by the medical team, the grieving family consented to organ donation, turning their personal tragedy into a life-saving act for several patients.
Early Thursday morning, Jaipur authorities created a green corridor to transport his liver from SDMH to All India Institute of Medical Sciences Jodhpur for transplantation. A cadaver kidney transplant was also successfully conducted at SDMH.
Officials stated that teams from National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation North (ROTTO North), AIIMS Jodhpur, SMS Medical College, and SDMH coordinated overnight to complete the organ retrieval and transplantation process.
Doctors and officials praised the family’s selfless decision, noting that the young Army aspirant’s final act embodied the spirit of service and humanity he had always aspired to uphold.
