Dr Kiran Bedi, IPS (Retd.), former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and Chief Guest at the Convocation Ceremony of the 150th Course of the National Defence Academy (NDA), has lauded the academy’s traditions and training ethos, describing its Light and Sound Show as one of the most impressive experiences she has witnessed.
Sharing her thoughts after attending the event at NDA, Khadakwasla, Dr Bedi said the 45-minute Light and Sound Show organised on the eve of the convocation left a lasting impression on her. The programme, attended by cadets and their parents, showcased the academy’s rich history, military traditions and values.
Calling it an inspiring initiative, Dr Bedi suggested that a similar programme could be introduced at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy before the Passing Out Parade of IPS officer trainees.
She also highlighted several practices followed at NDA that contribute to shaping disciplined and dedicated military leaders. Among them, she noted the daily reaffirmation of service values and institutional mottos by cadets, which helps reinforce a strong sense of purpose, commitment and selfless service to the nation.
According to Dr Bedi, such traditions play a significant role in instilling discipline, leadership qualities and national service values among future officers.
The remarks came during the celebrations surrounding the NDA’s historic 150th Course, which culminated with the convocation and passing out events attended by senior military leaders, distinguished guests and families of graduating cadets.
Dr Bedi’s observations underscored the enduring reputation of the NDA as one of India’s premier military institutions, known for developing future leaders of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force through a unique blend of academic excellence, military training and character development.
