Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi felicitated four distinguished veterans with the prestigious Veteran Achievers Award during his visit to Tezpur, recognising their outstanding contributions to veteran welfare, social development, entrepreneurship and nation-building.
The award recipients included Colonel Dibya Shankar Bhattacharya, Havildar Bhabi Ram Boro, Honorary Naib Subedar Mohan Kumar Jaishi and Naik Sengcho Yame, whose efforts have created a lasting impact in their respective communities and beyond.
The awards were presented in recognition of their exemplary service after retirement and their continued commitment to strengthening society through various initiatives focused on public welfare and community development.

The honoured veterans have contributed significantly in areas such as youth mentorship, support for veterans and Veer Naris, preservation of the legacy of India’s martyrs, environmental conservation, civil defence, skill development and livelihood generation for local communities.
Their initiatives have helped empower individuals, create employment opportunities, promote social awareness and strengthen community resilience, reflecting the enduring spirit of service associated with the Indian Army.
Addressing the gathering, General Dwivedi praised the awardees for their unwavering dedication to society and their remarkable contributions beyond military service. He noted that their efforts continue to drive positive social change and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The Army Chief commended the veterans for embodying the core values and ethos of the Indian Army even after hanging up their uniforms. He described them as role models whose dedication, leadership and selfless service continue to inspire future generations.

General Dwivedi emphasised that service to the nation does not end with retirement from active duty and highlighted the importance of veterans in nation-building and community development. He reiterated the philosophy that “Service is a Lifelong Journey”, recognising the critical role played by veterans in building a stronger and more united India.
