Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan visited the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune on 23 July 2026, where he reviewed the institution’s significant contributions to military medical education, biomedical research, innovation and advanced healthcare. The visit underscored the vital role played by AFMC in preparing military medical professionals and advancing technology-driven healthcare for the Armed Forces.

During the visit, Admiral Krishna Swaminathan was briefed on AFMC’s multifaceted role in delivering world-class medical education, conducting cutting-edge biomedical research and fostering innovation to strengthen military healthcare capabilities. The briefing highlighted the institution’s continued commitment to supporting operational readiness through excellence in medical training and scientific advancement.

The Chief of the Naval Staff visited several key departments and centres within the institution, including the Departments of Community Medicine, Medical Research, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Sports Medicine. He also toured the Centre for Advance Research, the Department of Medical Research, the ABIVIC Centre, the War Surgery Museum and Surgical Skills Laboratory, AFMC Publications, and Apremaya, the Students’ Scientific Society, gaining firsthand insight into the college’s academic, research and innovation ecosystem.

Admiral Krishna Swaminathan also interacted with Naval officers, sailors and cadets, acknowledging their dedication and encouraging them to continue striving for professional excellence in service to the nation. The interaction reflected the importance of nurturing highly skilled military medical professionals capable of meeting the evolving healthcare requirements of the Armed Forces.
