Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has delivered the first batch of WhAP 8×8 wheeled armoured vehicles to Royal Armed Forces (FAR), marking a major milestone in India–Morocco defence industrial cooperation.
The vehicles are being produced at TASL’s newly established manufacturing facility in Berrechid, Morocco, which will supply all WhAP units ordered by the Moroccan Army. In a post on X, TASL described the handover as a “proud milestone,” highlighting the platform’s proven capabilities and the success of local manufacturing in Morocco. The deliveries demonstrate the rapid industrial ramp-up of the Berrechid plant to meet the operational requirements of FAR.
The WhAP (Wheeled Armoured Platform) programme is the result of a joint development by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Tata Advanced Systems. The Berrechid facility was inaugurated in September 2025 during a ceremony attended by Rajnath Singh, India’s Defence Minister, and Abdelatif Loudyi, Morocco’s Minister Delegate for National Defence Administration.
Spread over nearly 20,000 square metres, the plant became operational several months ahead of schedule and represents the first-ever industrial presence of a private Indian defence company in Africa. Currently, around one-third of the vehicle’s components are assembled locally, with plans to progressively increase local value addition.
The WhAP 8×8 is a modular combat vehicle featuring a monocoque hull, scalable ballistic and mine protection, independent suspension, and a centralised tyre pressure control system. The platform can be fitted with remote weapon stations of various calibres, anti-tank guided missiles, and supports multiple mission roles including troop transport, command and control, medical evacuation, and mortar carrier variants.
The delivery underscores India’s growing defence export footprint, strengthens South–South defence cooperation, and positions Tata Advanced Systems as a key global player in next-generation armoured vehicle manufacturing.
