To further strengthen counter-terrorism arrangements in the Doda district of the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, the Indian Army has initiated specialised guerrilla warfare training for Village Defence Guards (VDGs).
The training programme is aimed at enhancing the operational capability, situational awareness, and defensive preparedness of VDGs in sensitive and remote areas vulnerable to terrorist movement. Participants are being trained in basic guerrilla tactics, weapon handling, ambush and counter-ambush drills, surveillance, and coordination with security forces.
Army instructors are also emphasising terrain familiarisation, night vigilance, and rapid response techniques to enable VDGs to act as an effective first line of defence and intelligence support for security forces.
The initiative reflects the Indian Armyโs continued focus on community-based security mechanisms, empowering local volunteers to actively contribute to counter-terror operations while reinforcing the overall security grid in the Chenab Valley region.
The specialised training is expected to significantly boost local resilience against terror threats and strengthen the synergy between civilians and the armed forces in maintaining peace and security in the region.
