Sagar Defence has announced a strategic equity investment in Endure Air Systems, a Kanpur-based start-up specialising in unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The move marks a significant step in Sagar Defence’s expansion into advanced defence technologies and reflects the growing trend of established Indian defence firms backing domestic start-ups to fast-track innovation.

Through this investment, Sagar Defence aims to align Endure Air Systems with its long-term vision of developing scalable, mission-ready drone platforms that can serve both defence and civilian applications. The partnership is expected to combine Sagar Defence’s industry experience with Endure’s agile design and development capabilities.

Endure Air Systems has built a strong portfolio of lightweight, rapidly deployable drone platforms, supported by in-house hardware design, avionics integration and software development. Its systems are designed for cost-effective maintenance and reliable performance, making them suitable for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) roles, as well as broader security and civilian use cases.

The funding is expected to help Endure Air Systems expand manufacturing capacity, speed up product qualification and certification, and widen its sales and distribution network across India, with potential entry into international markets.

From Sagar Defence’s perspective, the collaboration will focus on scalability, regulatory compliance and supply-chain resilience. The company’s backing is likely to support further research and development, facilitate certification processes, and open doors to partnerships with defence procurement agencies and private-sector customers.

Industry observers see the deal as part of a broader shift in India’s defence ecosystem, where larger players are increasingly partnering with start-ups to bridge the gap between prototype development and field deployment. Such collaborations are expected to play a key role in meeting stringent security, interoperability and reliability standards.

The partnership could also enable the development of advanced payloads, autonomous flight features and enhanced data analytics, while encouraging domestic supplier development, operator training programmes and joint go-to-market strategies for applications such as border management, disaster response and critical infrastructure monitoring.

With India’s strong push for indigenisation and self-reliance, the investment is expected to enhance Endure Air Systems’ credibility with customers and regulators, accelerate compliance with evolving drone governance frameworks and support the development of export-ready platforms.

Overall, the strategic stake signals Sagar Defence’s intent to build a resilient domestic drone ecosystem. If executed effectively, the collaboration could strengthen India’s technological sovereignty in unmanned systems and serve as a model for future defence–start-up partnerships aligned with national priorities.
