An Indian Armed Forces contingent has arrived in Seychelles to participate in the 11th edition of the Joint Military Exercise “LAMITIYE–2026” with the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). The exercise will be conducted at the Seychelles Defence Academy from March 9 to March 20, 2026.
The term “Lamitiye,” meaning “Friendship” in the Creole language, reflects the strong and enduring defence partnership between India and Seychelles. The biennial exercise has been held in Seychelles since 2001.
Tri-Service Participation from India
This edition of the exercise marks a significant milestone with participation from all three services of the Indian Armed Forces.
The Indian contingent includes troops from the Assam Regiment, along with participation from the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The naval frigate INS Trikand and an IAF C-130 aircraft are also part of the exercise.
Focus on Sub-Conventional Operations
The exercise aims to enhance synergy, cooperation and interoperability between the two forces, particularly in sub-conventional operations in semi-urban environments and peacekeeping missions.
During the 12-day exercise, troops from both countries will jointly train, plan and execute tactical drills designed to neutralise potential threats in semi-urban scenarios. The training will also showcase the use of new-generation equipment and technologies.
Training Activities and Final Validation
Exercise LAMITIYE–2026 will feature a range of activities including:
- Field Training Exercises
- Combat discussions and case studies
- Lectures and demonstrations
- Joint tactical planning
The exercise will conclude with a two-day validation exercise, demonstrating the operational coordination and readiness achieved during the training.
