In a significant step towards strengthening maritime and defence ties, India handed over 100 INSAS rifles and 50,000 rounds of ammunition to the Kenya Navy during a ceremony held onboard INS Trikand at Mombasa.
The handover was conducted by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, to Major General Paul Otieno on behalf of the Kenya Defence Forces.

The initiative underscores the growing defence cooperation between India and Kenya, particularly in the maritime domain. The supply of arms and ammunition is aimed at enhancing Kenya’s operational capabilities and supporting regional security efforts in the Indian Ocean.
The event took place aboard INS Trikand, symbolising India’s commitment to building strong naval partnerships and ensuring maritime stability in the region.

This development reflects India’s broader strategic outreach in Africa, where defence collaboration, capacity building, and joint exercises are playing an increasingly important role in strengthening bilateral relations.
The India–Kenya partnership continues to expand across multiple sectors, with defence and maritime security emerging as key pillars of cooperation.
