With realistic tracks, a sloped armoured front, military-style markings and a transparent glass surface, the customised desk has quickly become a viral symbol of the Indian Army’s Armoured Corps heritage.

The photograph began circulating widely across social media platforms in late June 2026, with users praising what many described as the ultimate example of “office swag.” However, while some posts claimed that the desk had been constructed from the hull of a decommissioned tank, no official Army statement has confirmed this. A social-media post by defence journalist Sandeep Unnithan described the furniture as a replica of a tank rather than an actual tank hull.

A Tank in the Corps Commander’s Office

The centrepiece of the photograph is a large beige-coloured desk resembling the frontal section of a main battle tank. The structure includes two tracked sections underneath, while the front has angular armour-like panels and markings such as “174 X 1812.”

A thick glass sheet placed across the top transforms the military-themed structure into a functional office table. Files, communication equipment and other office accessories can be seen placed on the glass surface.

The exact tank model that inspired the desk has not been officially identified. Social-media users have compared its design with contemporary Indian Army tanks, but such comparisons remain speculative.

The setting further adds to the military character of the photograph. Behind the desk are the Indian national flag, Army and formation flags, dark wooden wall panels and large boards displaying the names of previous General Officers Commanding.

Rather than appearing like a novelty item, the tank-shaped desk blends naturally with the surroundings of a headquarters responsible for commanding one of the Indian Army’s most powerful mechanised formations.

A Symbol of Armoured Corps Heritage

The unusual desk has particular significance because Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar is an officer of the Indian Army’s Armoured Corps.

He took over as the General Officer Commanding of Kharga Corps in July 2024. Before assuming command of the corps, he had commanded an armoured regiment in an operational area, a strategic independent armoured brigade and an infantry division deployed in the western sector.

Lt Gen Pushkar is also the Colonel of the 74 Armoured Regiment, popularly known as the “Desert Hawks.” The regiment is equipped with the T-90 main battle tank, one of the principal armoured fighting platforms operated by the Indian Army.

The tank-inspired office furniture therefore appears to be more than an eye-catching decoration. It reflects the general officer’s lifelong association with armoured warfare and the combat identity of the formation he commands.

Kharga Corps: Indian Army’s Powerful Strike Formation

Kharga Corps, officially designated as II Corps, is headquartered at Ambala and forms part of the Indian Army’s Western Command.

The formation has historically been structured for offensive operations involving armoured, mechanised and supporting formations. Its emphasis on speed, mobility and concentrated combat power makes the tank an especially appropriate symbol for the Corps Commander’s office.

Lt Gen Pushkar has led the formation during a period of increasing technological integration. During Exercise Kharga Shakti 2026, the corps tested the coordinated employment of mechanised forces, unmanned aerial systems, counter-drone capabilities, air-defence elements, surveillance systems and precision-linked firepower.

Against this background, the viral photograph offers a lighter but highly symbolic glimpse into the headquarters of a formation associated with armoured manoeuvre and offensive battlefield operations.

Who Is Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar?

Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar has served in the Indian Army for approximately 35 years and has held several important operational, instructional, diplomatic and staff appointments.

He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, the College of Defence Management in Secunderabad and the National Defence College in New Delhi.

His overseas assignments include service with the Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan and a tenure as Defence and Military Attaché at the Indian Embassy in Moscow, with accreditation to Armenia and Belarus. Before taking command of Kharga Corps, he served as Director General of the Territorial Army at Army Headquarters.

The photograph has emerged just days before the senior officer assumes a larger command responsibility.

Lt Gen Pushkar has been appointed General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Southern Command and is scheduled to take over the appointment in Pune on July 1, 2026. He will succeed Lt Gen Sandeep Jain.

Social Media Calls It the Ultimate Military Office

The image has generated considerable interest among defence enthusiasts, veterans and followers of military equipment. Many users praised the creativity behind converting the appearance of an armoured vehicle into functional office furniture.

The desk has also prompted debate over whether it incorporates original tank components or is an entirely fabricated replica. In the absence of an official technical description, claims that it was created from a scrapped or decommissioned tank should be treated cautiously.

What is clearly visible, however, is the attention given to recreating the character of an armoured fighting vehicle. From the tracks and angular front to the military markings and sand-coloured finish, the desk has been designed to immediately evoke the image of a battle tank.

More Than Just an Office Desk

Military formations frequently preserve their history through captured equipment, miniature models, paintings, battle honours and objects connected with earlier operations. Such displays help maintain institutional memory and reinforce pride in a unit’s traditions.

The tank-shaped desk appears to serve a similar symbolic purpose. It combines military heritage, craftsmanship and functionality while reflecting the identity of both the Armoured Corps officer and the strike formation he commands.

There may be no elaborate official story behind the table, but the photograph has already achieved something significant: it has offered the public an unusual glimpse into the personality and traditions of an Indian Army headquarters.

As Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar prepares to move from Ambala to Pune to take charge of Southern Command, the viral image of his tank-inspired desk is likely to remain one of the most memorable photographs associated with his tenure as the Kharga Corps Commander.
