Lance Havildar Suresh Kumar of the 3 Jat Regiment was martyred while deployed on security duties for the Amarnath Yatra. The Indian Army has declared his death as a Battle Casualty in recognition of his supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Hailing from Haripura village in the Dantaramgarh tehsil of Rajasthan’s Sikar district, Lance Havildar Suresh Kumar was serving with the Indian Army and was stationed at Pathankot, Punjab before being deployed for the annual pilgrimage’s security operations.
According to his family, the soldier had spoken to his father, Jagdish Genan, just 20 minutes before the tragic incident. During the call, he reassured his father that everything was fine and said he hoped to return home soon after his leave was sanctioned. Moments later, Army officials informed the family of his martyrdom.
The mortal remains of the brave soldier were brought to his native village, where thousands of people participated in a Tiranga Yatra from Khachariyawas Police Outpost to Haripura. Villagers, ex-servicemen, youth and members of various social organisations gathered to pay their final respects, chanting patriotic slogans in honour of the fallen soldier.
Lance Havildar Suresh Kumar is survived by his wife Seema Devi, their nine-year-old son Piyush, and his elderly parents. His son performed the last rites, while the Indian Army accorded him full military honours, including a Guard of Honour.
Several dignitaries, including Sikar MP Amraram and Dantaramgarh MLA Virendra Singh, paid floral tributes to the martyr, joining the nation in saluting his courage, sacrifice and unwavering devotion to duty.
