Air Marshal S Shrinivas, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command, inaugurated a state-of-the-art 3-Tesla MRI system at Command Hospital Air Force Bangalore (CHAFB) on August 18, 2026, marking a significant enhancement of advanced diagnostic capabilities at the hospital.
The newly commissioned Philips Ingenia Elition X 3-Tesla MRI system is expected to provide a major boost to advanced diagnostic imaging, enabling greater precision in the assessment of complex medical conditions and strengthening comprehensive patient care.

The advanced MRI facility will enhance the hospital’s diagnostic infrastructure and provide access to modern imaging technology for personnel and beneficiaries of the Armed Forces medical system.
In another major development, CHAFB also commissioned an Iridium-192 High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy system to strengthen specialised cancer-care capabilities. The system was inaugurated by Mrs Sunita Shrinivas, President, Air Force Families Welfare Association (Regional), Training Command, Indian Air Force.

The HDR Brachytherapy system is equipped with advanced image-guided treatment capabilities, allowing radiation to be delivered with greater precision to targeted tumour sites while reducing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.
The new capability is expected to strengthen the hospital’s oncology services and provide patients with access to advanced and precise radiation treatment.

The commissioning of the two facilities represents a significant step in modernising the medical infrastructure at CHAFB and integrating emerging technologies into military healthcare.
The initiatives reaffirm the Armed Forces Medical Services’ commitment to clinical excellence, advanced diagnostics and technology-enabled treatment, while strengthening comprehensive and patient-centric healthcare for its beneficiaries.
