Salem, Tamil Nadu, November 2, 2026: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate North Eastern Region (NER) has created history by emerging as the Overall Champion at the Inter Directorate Drone Competition 2026, held in Salem, Tamil Nadu, from October 23 to November 2, 2026.
The remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone for the NCC North Eastern Region, with its cadets demonstrating exceptional technical proficiency, precision, innovation and flying skills in a competition focused on emerging drone technologies.
The NER contingent delivered an outstanding performance across the competition, securing first position in two of the four major events: Drone Assembly and Flying Skills. These victories played a crucial role in helping the Directorate claim the prestigious overall championship title.
The Drone Assembly event tested the cadets’ technical understanding, practical engineering abilities and proficiency in assembling drone systems. The Flying Skills event evaluated their ability to operate drones with precision, control and confidence, reflecting the importance of practical training and technological competence.
In addition to the team achievements, Junior Under Officer (JUO) Audrea P. Jyrwa, a member of the North Eastern Region contingent, brought further recognition to the Directorate by winning the Individual Medal for Best Senior Wing (SW) Overall in Flying.
Her individual accomplishment highlighted the exceptional flying skills and technical expertise demonstrated by the NER cadets during the competition. The recognition also showcased the increasing participation and achievements of women cadets in technology-oriented NCC activities.
The competition provided an important platform for NCC cadets from different directorates to demonstrate their knowledge and practical abilities in drone technology, an emerging field with growing applications in defence, surveillance, disaster management and civilian operations.
Unmanned aerial systems have become increasingly important in modern military operations, making drone-related technical skills valuable for young cadets interested in developing expertise in emerging technologies.
Through competitions involving drone assembly and flying, the NCC encourages cadets to develop practical engineering knowledge, problem-solving abilities, teamwork and confidence in operating advanced technological systems.
The victory of the North Eastern Region Directorate is particularly significant as it reflects the growing technical capabilities and competitive excellence of cadets from the northeastern states of India.
Securing first place in two major events while claiming the overall championship demonstrates the contingent’s dedication, disciplined preparation and ability to perform successfully against participants from other NCC directorates.
The achievement also underlines the NCC’s broader emphasis on combining traditional values of discipline, leadership and teamwork with technological awareness and practical innovation.
The success of JUO Audrea P. Jyrwa further adds to the significance of the championship, highlighting individual excellence alongside the collective achievements of the Directorate.
The historic victory at Salem stands as a proud moment for the entire NCC North Eastern Region, reflecting the commitment of its cadets, instructors and supporting personnel towards achieving excellence in emerging technological fields.
