All You Want To Know About IMA – Indian Military Academy

0
Indian Military Academy

Hello, Warriors! If you are a die hard aspirant of Indian Military Academy and if a series of shock wave passes through your spine whenever you read somewhere IMA or Indian Army being mentioned and if fills you with the josh & courage to be a part of it, then this article is for you.

Here, I jot some important points about the Indian Military Academy that every aspirant must know:

  1. IMA Indian Military Academy was established on 1st October in 1932 and is headed by Lieutenant General Manvendra Singh, AVSM, VSM as the present commandant and it’s motto is ‘Valor and Wisdom’.
  2. A trainee on admission to the IMA is referred to as a Gentleman Cadet or GC. One reason for this is that the academy expects its graduates to uphold the highest moral and ethical values.
  3. The IMA colours are steel grey and blood red. Steel grey represents the strength of steel in the GCs and blood red indicates the ultimate sacrifice for the protection of the motherland.
  4. The academy is located in the foothills of the Himalayas, about 8 km west of Dehradun in Uttarakhand. The academy area is 1,400 acres (5.7 km2).
  5. The Government of India transferred the erstwhile estate in Dehradun of the Indian Railway’s Railway Staff College, with its 206 acre campus and associated infrastructure, to the Indian Military Academy during Indian independence struggle.
  6. Brigadier L.P. Collins was appointed the first Commandant and the first batch of 40 GCs, began their training on 1 October 1932. The institute was inaugurated on 10 December 1932, at the end of the first term by Field Marshal Chetwode.Indian Military Academy
  7. In late 1947, the IMA was renamed the Armed Forces Academy and a new Joint Services Wing (JSW) was commissioned on 1 January 1949, while training of Army officers continued in the Military Wing. In 1960, the academy was renamed back to its founding name, as the Indian Military Academy.
  8. In 1976, the four battalions of the IMA were renamed the Cariappa Battalion, Thimayya Battalion, Manekshaw Battalion and Bhagat Battalion with two companies each in honour of Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa, General Kodendera Subayya Thimayya, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and Lieutenant General Premindra Singh Bhagat, respectively.
  9. In 1977, the Army Cadet College (ACC) was moved from Pune to Dehradun as a wing of the IMA. In 2006, the ACC was merged into the IMA as its Siachen Battalion.
  10. The IMA Museum on the campus displays artifacts of historic importance. Among other war relics, it displays the pistol of Lieutenant General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi of the Pakistan Army which he surrendered to Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora after signing the Instrument of Surrender to end the liberation War of 1971.
  11. The Commandant’s residence is a handsome colonial structure with a landscaped 6 acre garden. It offers a panoramic view of the Tons River silhouetted by the Himalayas.
  12. Developed in the 1970s, the South Campus of the IMA includes facilities for the Somnath Stadium and the Salaria Aquatic Centre. Other facilities on the South Campus include stables with a stud farm and a small arms shooting range.
  13. The IMA War Memorial, with its pillars and columns of Dholpur stone, pays homage to the alumni of the academy who have fallen in the course of action. At the sanctum sanctorum of the memorial is a bronze statue of a Gentleman Cadet with a sword presenting arms.
  14. Cadets undergo training at the IMA for one year. An exception are trainees selected via the Combined Defence Services Exam of UPSC. These cadets who are graduates of a non-military college undergo training for one and a half years.
  15. The Param Veer Chakra awardees of IMA are Major Somnath Sharma, Posthumous; Captain Gurbachan Singh Salaria, Posthumous; Lieutenant Colonel Hoshiar Singh; 2nd Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, Posthumous; Captain Vikram Batra, Posthumous and Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, Posthumous.
  16. Making of a Warrior, a documentary by Dipti Bhalla and Kunal Verma, provides an inside look at the IMA’s culture, traditions and training regime. The 2004 Bollywood film Lakshya is partly shot in IMA.

At last let me leave you with the academy’s credo excerpted from the speech of Field Marshal Chetwode at the inauguration of the academy in 1932:

The safety, honour and welfare of your country come first, always and every time.
The honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next.
Your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time!

Indigenous Cryogenic Engine Build by ISRO

Indigenous Cryogenic Engine Build by ISRO. ISRO has again gathered fame with a new milestone in space technology, with successful endurance test of an indigenously developed cryogenic engine. The engine was made to power up the most powerful rocket system, GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle) MK-III. The engine went under 800 seconds of the test. The test stood longer for 25% more time than required for the space flight the engine operates with its propellant at a very low temperature, liquid hydrogen at 20 kelvin and liquid oxygen at 80 Kelvins. As per the sources, the test was 10th in the series of the development of a cryogenic engine. The production aims to increase the power of rocket system to four tonnes category spacecraft from current two plus tonnes category.  Further high altitude tests are also planned for its clarification and final use. Earlier, the cold test and short term hot tests were conducted by ISRO.

India is among the 6 nations who have successfully tested and deployed. Japan, China, Russia, United States and European space agency are the previous rankers of the list.

What is Cryogenic Engine?

The engines are basically a reaction based mechanism that not works like any electric engine. The fuel is stored in the pressurized form. Normally, cryogenic engines are of two types i.e. liquid propellant engine and hybrid engine. The reason of converting the propellant to liquid is that the gaseous propellant will increase the fuel tank size and mass, making it difficult to lift. So the engine is kept at a cryogenic temperature and maintaining the liquidity of the propellant. It makes the engine more efficient and powerful.Indigenous-Cryogenic-Engine-build-by-ISRO

Achievements of ISRO

GAGAN – GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation is intended to provide accurate navigation services over the Bay of Bengal, South East Asia, Indian Ocean, Middle East, and African regions. Well, it is efficient to fill the gap between European Union’s EGNOS and Japan’s MSAS.

IRNSS – India’s indigenously developed regional navigation satellite, which was built to give accurate navigation coordinated to the Indian users and users in the range of 1500km from its boundary. Developed by ISRO it is completely under the Indian government.  For positioning, the system will reduce dependency over GPS GLONASS etc.

Chandrayaan – As the name describes the motive, it is India’s first mission to the moon, launched by modified PSLV in October 2008 and put into orbit in November 2008. American institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics awarded it SPACE 2009 award. Space Pioneer prize was also awarded by national space society.

Mars Orbit Mission (Mangalyaan) – Honor to mention that India is the only nation to launch it in first attempt. It went into orbit in September 2014. It was named as one of the best inventions of 2014.

Conclusion

The India scientists have achieved their goal and ones again marked the name of ISRO, in the list of elite agencies. The space exploration and technological enhancement has led India to new heights. The motto of MAKE IN INDIA has a wide influence on all sectors and fields. The successive thrust of being self-reliant is on the zenith. The great minds along with the government-backed facilities described the efficiency of the scientist and designers.

Recommended In First Attempt For Indian Navy Pilot

“I MAY NOT BE THERE YET, BUT I AM CLOSER THAN I WAS YESTERDAY…”-unknown

Recommended In First Attempt For Indian Navy Pilot. A middle-class boy with average academics, empty sports column in PIQ, no NCC or any great achievement. How was I supposed to clear SSB? That was the question I had in my mind while reporting to 12S SB Bangalore on 29th JUNE 2015.Most of the candidate have the same question while attending SSB. But soon I get to know that SSB is a place where it doesn’t matter where you come from, only thing that matters is belief in yourself.

Hi everyone, I am Karthik recommended for navy (pilot and observer) entry by 12SSB Bangalore. It was my first attempt and had a wonderful journey of 9 days (including medicals) which I am sharing with you all.

DAY 1- SCREENING.

Started with OIR. Overall it is very simple test. Then comes PPDT, A hazy picture was shown and I saw 2 persons in the picture and wrote a story around it. We were total 150 candidates and were divided into group of 10 each. When we started narration I was shocked that everyone except me saw 3 persons in the picture but everyone will have unique response to the picture, don’t worry about it and narrate your story with confidence. Results were announced after lunch, total 19 candidates were screened in out of 150 and I was given chest no. 16.

DAY 2- PHYCLOGICAL TEST+ INTERVIEW:

Started with TAT and I wrote 11 stories on the pictures shown which were very normal stories. Write whatever comes to your mind seeing the picture. In empty slide I wrote a small summary of my life and what I want to be .Then comes WAT, I was able to write 58 out of 60 WAT responses. In SRT I was able to attend 54 out of 60. Write very simple and practical response that you will do in your daily life. In entire physiological test don’t manipulate or think out of the way. Write whatever comes in your mind at very first, then only you can portray your real personality to the psychologist.SSB Indian Navy Batch

INTERVIEW:

Officer: let’s start with your job profile.

Me: told everything in detail.

Officer: rapid fire round 1.

Me: gave answer for first few questions and forgot few at the last and was looking at him with a smile.

Officer: repeated the questions.

Me: answered them.

Officer: Rapid fire round 2 and 3.

Me: I did the same.

Officer: In 10th you scored 83% and in 12th 63%, why such a drastic decline?

Me: sir, I was in Love. And told him everything that happened.

Officer: who is Nandan Nilekani?

Me: After few seconds of silence I said, this is first time I am hearing this name sir. I am really weak in GK.

Officer: with a laughter said leave it.

Officer: Ok gentlemen I have asked everything from my side, is there anything you want to say about yourself?

Me: sir I won’t quit from anything sir. Whatever the situation will be I will face it and overcome it sir!

I was done with my interview. As I came out few minutes later I thought ye kya kiya mene?  12th me galti kit toh, padhai gayi, pyar gaya aura b ye SSB bhi gaya!

In interview be very honest, logical and confident in your answers. Reveal your true self to the interviewer. Many of the candidates have decline in 10th to 12th marks (mostly with same reason as mine), if asked then say the truth. Don’t hide anything.

DAY 3 and 4 -GTO

Started with group discussion and I hardly put 2-3 points in 2 consecutive GD’s. Don’t shout in GD, Indian Navy Pilot Recommended Candidateshouting is not a sign of Gentlemen, if u have a valid point then the group will listen to you automatically. PGT was good but True spirit of team work and cooperation was built in snake race where we felt as a team and worked as a team shouting our war cry “VANDE MATARAM” which showed up in HGT. Lecturate was just above average and in individual obstacles I completed only 7 out of 10 obstacles.

Day 4 started with command task and I was given bomb task, I was able to solve all the three possible solution. Then we proceeded to the FGT and really worked together as a great team. The entire motto of Group Task is to check how you work as a team not as an individual. Never try to dominate the group, if you have the potential and practical solution the group will itself choose you as a leader.

DAY 5–CONFERENCE.

In conference I was asked to rate myself, and I rated myself genuinely and accepted the mistakes or the places I could have done better. We were waiting for the results, and came a naval officer in crisp white uniform with the results. Gave a small motivating Speech and he announced Chest no.16, had a few seconds pause and said that’s it, and left the hall. Yes, it was me. I don’t remember what happened in next few minutes. Everything happened in flash second and only thing I remember is the thought that came in my mind at that time” Yes, I have it in me.

Unforgettable 5days, lots of new friends, chance to get know yourself, one step closer to your dream and magical feel of hearing your chest number. That is all about the amazing journey of SSB.

I have cleared my medicals and waiting for the merit.

Do I Have The Ability To Become Officer At Defence Forces?

0
Become Officer At Defence Forces

“Ability is what you are capable of doing, motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” ~~ Lou Holtz

Joining defence forces is the new trend among the youth now a day. Is it because of the increased salary or because of the perk and privileges that one receive or the respect or the passion to work for the motherland. Different personalities might have varying reasons but the input that are forces are getting is commendable. Anyway I am sure that no wrong element would reach because of the stringent selection procedures. Anyways when a person is thriving for success and knows where he needs to reach and how to reach then only can he achieve it. Nothing different for the ?Indian defence forces.

So before you make a decision of any consequence, make sure you are:

  • in your right and strongest mind
  • feeling positive rather than sad
  • healthy not ill
  • full rather than empty
  • active rather than tired

Motivation is highly needed as it’s rightly said that even if you have the ability but no motivation you will feel the lack of internal energy that pushes you to achieve. Failures might be part of your life, but they are necessary to keep life moving ahead else life would be monotonous with no fear. People would stop working hard if failure were not there. It’s the fear of failure only that keeps you motivated to achieve some stand in life.Become Officer At Defence Forces

Attitude of looking at situations and reacting to them also determines how well you do and achieve things. People look dreams and do not work accordingly. They think everything is easy to achieve, but they are far from reality. In course of time when they lose then only they realise how much work was needed and how much they did. Every individual has the capability to get selected at SSB but the person needs a right set of guidance and the motivation to reach the pinnacle. One need to identify the personality which is pure and real and not the show off that he or she does in society. Defence force is for the real hero’s and only such people get selected there.

Life is a battle and you should fight it bravely. Once you inculcate these qualities, I think no one can stop you clearing the SSB as it is the only exam which judges you on various parameters for five days and then selects you. It’s the beauty of this exam that wrong is caught and punished. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for OLQ’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. The exam is so pure that only the deserving candidates cross it. You are also the one, but believe in your efforts and keep trying. Start with introspection and know your real self and then SSB would just be a five day self-realisation rather than a exam for the aspirants. Keep going!!!

What Are Assessors Looking At SSB? – Part 2

What Are Assessors Looking At SSB? – Part 2. This series has part one where we covered the various aspects of human personality and what assessors are looking in an aspirant. It’s very clear as of now that everyone has the qualities while everyone does not develop them and get selected. Let’s now discuss how to develop these qualities so that selection is ensured. The best tool that has been identified for development of OLQ’s is SELF INTROSPECTION. I have heard from many aspirants that everyone tells it but no one suggests the way one should do it. The following is the right way to do it and develop yourself:

  • Have time for your preparation – One should ensure that they start preparing for SSB in time. It does not look sensible to start and finish preparation in two weeks which is actually impossible. The preparation as such needs less time but the learning’s that come need time for implementation in personality. So at least a month should be there for preparation.
  • Doing self-introspection – For this one need to study their life deeply which should encompass life events important or otherwise. This study will provide the base for further preparation as it gives strength and weakness as output along with the degree of presence. In my mentorship program individuals get their profiling done based on few tests that I have designed where clear strengths and weakness are identified and ways to improve are suggested.
  • Practice hard beforehand – Once the profiling is done one should now practice the various rounds of SSB so that the personality found and that reflected from whatever one speaks/ writes / performs is similar and both of them matches perfectly. One needs to see while preparation and reduce the mismatch to maximum extent.
  • Reflect yourself properly – Your personality and what is reflected should be similar. This rule applies to ever round as they are interested to just see the potential of being an officer in you. Don’t believe in myths that its tough or they assess hard or if you are not good in English they will reject, etc. I have published a list of myths also in article. For detailed information refer that as well.ssb gto task

Also one should seek right guidance. I have observed few people taking guidance in large groups. Please understand that SSB is something where individual personality is assessed and every personality is different so everyone should have different approach to tackle similar problems. Also there are no fixed responses to the problems given at SSB. So desperate and learned responses will never help in life. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for OLQ’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve queries and clear doubts which are more often myths .Tackle the problems rightly at SSB and reflect your true self. SSB is the easiest exam one can give as there is nothing to prepare about. You are the best person who knows about yourself. So spend proper time in knowing yourself and achieve your dream to serve the nation.
