Movies not only provide entertainment, but they also inspire us. They have a tremendous influence on our minds. They also portray the true essence of the situations. War-based movies give us a patriotic feeling whereas a movie based on the army lifestyle inspires us to join the defense forces.
Indian Defence Movies
Border: Considered as one of the best war time movies ever made, this movie was a huge success. In 1971, along the border region of Longewala, a small battalion of Indian soldiers go up against a 2000-(armed) soldier Pakistani strike force. This movie got a 7.5 rating on the imdb.
Lakshay: Hrithik Roshan starred in this film revolving around the life of Karan Shergill from his college days to the Acting Captain in India Army. Though the movie is a work of fiction, it had the Kargil war as its backdrop.
LOC Kargil: This movie was based on the true events in the Kargil war. This movie was mainly centered on operation Vijay.
Tango Charlie: Directed by Mani Shankar, the movie starred Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty and Bobby Deol in leading roles. The movie revolves around the Tarun Chauhan, played by Bobby Deol, presenting his journey from a new recruit to one of the bravest war soldiers of the country.

Vijeeta: Directed by Govind Nihalani, ‘Vijeeta’ follows the story of Angad, played by Kunal Kapoor, from being a confused teenager to a brave air force pilot. The movie also has Shashi Kapoor and Rekha in the leading roles.
Lalkaar: Directed by the legendary Ramanand Sagar, ‘Lalkaar’ brings to the screen, the fight between the Indian army and Japanese invaders in Burma during World War II.
Though these movies were not as much a blockbuster as 3 Idiots, they continue to provide us inspiration and motivation.
Vijay Diwas 2021 marks 50 years of India’s victory against Pakistan in the 1971 war. December 16 is a day recognised to honour the valour of soldiers. Celebrated across the nation as Vijay Diwas; on this day India emerged triumphant against Pakistan in 1971 ware. This year commemorates the 50th anniversary of the victory. Even today, the historic victory is celebrated with pride and zeal across the country.
Vijay Diwas exemplifies bravery and valour. During the 1971 conflict, Indian soldiers made enormous sacrifices. Around 3,900 Indian soldiers laid down their lives while more than 9800 were wounded. The day narrates the tale of the gallantry, unwavering courage and sacrifice of India’s bravest sons.
What is the significance of Vijay Diwas?
Vijay Diwas is a national holiday in India that commemorates the country’s triumph over Pakistan in the 1971 war. 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered at the end of the conflict. Following India’s triumph, East Pakistan, now known as Bangladesh, gained independence. Lt Gen AAK Niazi, the Pakistani Army’s commander in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), agreed to surrender to India’s Eastern Army Commander, Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Arora. General Niazi accepted the surrender documents on the evening of December 16 and the war was officially won by India. This is why the day is known as Vijay Diwas and is commemorated every year.
What happened on December 16, 1971?
At 4.30 p.m., Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Arora arrived by helicopter at Dhaka airport. He and General Niazi sat at a table and executed the surrender paperwork together. Lt General Arora was handed over General Niazi’s revolver. Niazi’s eyes welled up with tears. The locals appeared to be prepared to murder Niazi, but senior Indian Military commanders got him out unharmed.
When the news of victory was announced, the entire Parliament House erupted in joy. Indira Gandhi, on the other side, was conducting a television interview at her Parliament House office. And that was when General Manekshaw notified her of India’s stunning triumph. During a heated debate in the Lok Sabha, Indira Gandhi declared that India had won the war. The entire house was filled with joy after Indira Gandhi’s announcement.
General Jacob received word from General Manekshaw that he needed to get to Dhaka as soon as possible to prepare for the surrender. Jacob’s health was failing at the moment. India barely had 3,000 soldiers, and they were 30 kilometres from Dhaka. On the other hand, the Pakistani Army commander, Lt Gen AAK Niazi, had 26,400 men in Dhaka. The war was entirely taken up by the Indian Army. The ceasefire was set to end as India’s Eastern Army Commander Jagjit Arora and his team were about to land in Dhaka in a few hours. There was silence when Jacob walked into Niazi’s room. On the table, the surrender paperwork was kept.

IAF is deeply saddened to inform the passing away of braveheart Group Captain Varun Singh, who succumbed this morning to the injuries sustained in the helicopter accident on 08 Dec 21. IAF offers sincere condolences and stands firmly with the bereaved family.
The Shaurya Chakra awardee was traveling with General Rawat, the country’s first and incumbent chief of defence staff (CDS), as the latter’s liaison officer for a visit to the Wellington-based Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), where the CDS was to deliver a lecture. After the helicopter crash, he was brought to the Military Hospital in Wellington but was later shifted to Bengaluru’s Air Force Command Hospital. Group Captain Singh’s father, Colonel (retired) KP Singh earlier described his son as a ‘fighter’.
HELLO FRIENDS, I’m DIVYESH RANDHEER (Chest no 7) got recommended from SSB KOLKATA for INDIAN NAVY as a GSX Cadre on 21Aug2021. First of all, I would like to give a warm greetings for all the aspirants who spend their valuable time in reading my story. Hope it helps you at any point.
I Hail from Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. I never had a goal in my life till my 2nd year of my degree. On a fine day, my college management invited an Ex-Navy officer to give a lecture on “Opportunities in Defence forces”. To be very honest I never knew about NDA till my 20. So it all started with the session where I eventually ended up to be trained by the gentlemen. He is an inspiration to all defence aspirants, not only aspirants but for all the citizens through his personality and service to the nation. For 2 years, I was trained for my personality the most rather than for SSB. With the huge opportunity provided to me there, I interacted with at least 20 officers & many Motivational fames before my 1st SSB. Before my third attempt, I took Coaching in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
I never traveled outside my state and knew any language except Tamil & English before 3March 2021 but before my recommendation, I knew 5Langauges {Tamil, Malayalam, English, Hindi, Telugu}. It went possible because of my exposures where I travelled through 17states in just 5months. It’s my Aspirant friends in Coimbatore & Bengaluru who helped me out in all tough times.
My SSB Experiences, {1R, 2CO, 1SO}.
1st SSB: NSB Vishakhapatnam, INET 3 March 2021 Result: CO.
I was very much excited to be in the MCO. Little scary seeing the crowd as it was my first attempt but with a huge confidence.
61 reported at the end of the day 15 got Screened in 11Freshers 4Repeaters. Story was syncing to the picture, Narrated boldly 4in the group accepted my story immediately. OIR 95%+ Accuracy attended all Questions.
I was so happy. But no time to express it. Was rushing to the room. Immediately filled PIQ. By 1500H, went back it took me 15 minutes to start my conversation with my group of 7. Because in my 1st attempt, my Hindi speaking is thooda Kham.
Psych went well but lot of strikes in writings. The huge mistake in my SSB. Never overwrite nor scribble. Neat, legible, clear writing is required.
GTO was the best part in my 1st SSB. I was called only once for Command task. Did 8 individual obstacles.
Interview went for 1H 45mins, I spoke where lengthy sentences.
This time my OIR was average. Also I mismatched for 2 questions in my OMR sheet. My perception went weak because of which I was told next during narration in just 15secs.
Did my best OIR, Perceived & Narrated best. Out of 97, 20 got screened in 19Repeaters 1Screened out candidate.
My Psych was good. Interview was little stammered 1H 05mins it was. GTO was the best ever in my SSBs. 10 Individual obstacles.
Conference went for 15minutes then came the result, BATCH WASHED OUT.
Enjoyed visiting Golden temple twice. 100H of traveling time the longest ever for my SSB.
4th SSB: SSB KOL, 17 Aug 2021 INET Result: Recommended.
Stage 1 was a cake walk. Little scared in OIR1 because everyone wrote only 25-30 out of 45. I wrote 31 I that set. OIR wasn’t tough but time consuming.
Psych was written with a calm mind. Very clear psych it was compared to all my SSBs.
Heavy Rains in Kolkata so did individual obstacle in day 3 itself.
Not Complaining, but my group ignored me in all the tasks. I said this to interviewer too.
My interview was the last & went only for 15mins. I didn’t do well. But I didn’t lose confidence during the tasks.
Did only 5 individual obstacles, everything slippery.
Conference went for 25 minutes. I felt like my actual interview was there in conference.
I didn’t expect I will get recommended. They called 19 instead of 29. Hahahaha 29 is no one that’s me. Half the way of 19 they said sorry 19 it is 29 who got recommended. Not only was my group the most shocked to hear was me. I asked thrice the madam “mam is it really 29?”.
Happy endings.
I urge aspirants not to lose hope at any point. I have 150+ aspirant friends. Everyone is making their turn. Be confident and showcase who you are.
Myths broken in my story,
You can get recommended even when no one calls you in CT.
5 Individual obstacles can also recommend you.
Despite a bad experience in my interviewer part, I spoke only truth. Told only truth NO LIES at all.
I was medically unfit, did DNS Surgery. Reduced 12kgs in 10days.
My next stop is 7 DEC at Bhopal for TGC134. Have an enthralling life friends.
