INET exam for officer was conducted on 08th Feb 2020 by the Indian Navy for officer candidates, this is the second time INET exam was conducted for the officer cadre for the various branches of the Indian Navy. Many aspirants of the Indian Navy appeared for the INET online exam on 08th Feb 2020. An online written test for Indian Navy (INET) was conducted for the first time this year and it is something that is different from other graduate level defence entrance tests. The difficulty level was much higher than AFCAT. Moreover, the syllabus of this test was also more than AFCAT. There are a few additional topics in maths like trigonometry, mensuration and geometry. Coming to the Verbal Ability section there were more questions on direct and indirect speech, active and passive voice. The rest of the paper is more or less the same as AFCAT. However, the marking scheme and cut off for INET is a bit different. For every correct answer 4 marks are awarded and for every wrong answer 1 mark is deducted. The paper consists of 100 questions and each section contains 25 questions. There is a sectional cutoff which requires a minimum of 40% score in each of the four sections. Along with that there’s an overall cutoff of 50%. My exam went good and the procedure before the exam was also pretty smooth. The admit card is retained my the center unlike AFCAT.

INET Exam Cut Off 2020 Marks

INET (Officers) will have four sections, viz English, Reasoning and Numerical Ability, General Science and Mathematical Aptitude, and General Knowledge. Candidates would need to pass in each section to be considered for an SSB call. Candidates will be called up for SSB interview on the basis of performance in INET (Officers) and their entry preference. To be considered for final Merit List, candidates would need to qualify in SSB and subsequent Medical Examination. Merit List will be drawn up on the basis of marks scored in INET (Officers) and SSB marks. Selected candidates will undergo Basic Training at the Indian Naval Academy.

Hello friends, I am Param Wankhede from Mumbai. Currently in final year of engineering. Right from my school days, I had this only dream of joining the Indian Navy. I have a defence background as my dad works in Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. Seeing the warships and officers in dockyard always inspired and awe and I used to imagine myself wearing the uniform one day. I’ve been an average student throughout my academic career with a keen interest in sports. Represented Mumbai at the district level in badminton. I have a liking for sports and trekking, and ever ready to break a sweat.

For INET exam I had practised a lot and had solved 5-6 AFCAT question papers. Cleared the INET exam and got a call-up letter from Naval Selection Board Visakhapatnam, which also happened to be my first ever SSB interview. For SSB, I had a planned approach. Consulted one of my senior from college who had cleared SSB. I read MAP (My Appointment with a Psychologist), which helped me understand what exactly is required at SSB and what they are looking for. I recommend everyone to read MAP before attending SSB. I used to practice TAT, WAT, SRTs daily. I even practised OIR tests, which generally candidates ignore. SSB is a test of personality and for that one should know himself in and out. You should know your strengths and weakness, your achievements in life till now, your hobbies and interests. You should know about your friends, best friends, parents, teachers, your academic career and everything about your life from A to Z. I evaluated my strengths and weakness and even asked my friends and parents to tell me the same.

I had to report at MCO Vizag on 11th Dec at 0600hrs. There were a total of 90 candidates who reported at MCO. We sat in a bus and were taken to NSB. I remember one guy asking me “First attempt hai kya?”. To which I replied, “Ha pheli baar SSB de rha hu”. Then he said “Ha voh toh lag hi rha hai.. Chotasa cute sa ladka dikh rha hai tu..”

DAY 1: After completing basic documentation we started with the OIR test and PPDT. OIR test went great and so did PPDT. After I wrote my story I was revising it continuously. When we went in the discussion room, I confidently narrated my story within 1 minute and participated well in GD. I was pretty confident that I will clear stage I. 
I got screened in along with 23 other candidates. And luckily, I got chest no. 23 which happens to be my birth date. We then had to deposit our mobile phones.

DAY 2: After a sleepless night, I woke up at 0430hrs. Done with breakfast at 0630hrs and ready for psychological tests. During TAT, I thought to myself that am I writing short stories? Because I completed stories well in time and saw others still writing. WAT and SRT were superb. Completed 59/60 SRTs. SD I had prepared already, so that went smooth.

DAY 3: GTO tasks. We were able to perform well as a team. No one dominating and no one being submissive.

Had my interview on the same day. Was nervous before the interview but the demeanour of the Interviewing Officer had a calming effect. I remember he had a smile throughout the interview. The interview went smooth. It lasted for 40-45 minutes. I was stuck at some technical questions which isn’t my forte, but rest I answered well. 
​There are two fundamental things to remember for the interview, first, to know yourself inside and out, second, honesty. Never bluff before the officer. They will easily catch you if you are bluffing. Honesty and Integrity are the core values of armed forces and there is no compromise on that.

DAY 4:  Individual Obstacle – I was confident that I will perform well. Completed 9/10 tasks.

Lecturette – It is important to stand and talk confidently in front of your group. My topic was education, but I might have spoken on it just for 45 seconds, then I drifted away to Make in India and unemployment. But whatever I spoke, I spoke with confidence.

Command Task- My performance was pathetic. I was completely clueless as what has to be done. I was not coming up with any ideas. My subordinates staring at me. GTO asking “What happened commander?” “Analyze the structure properly commander!” I was in total pressure. I remember telling myself “Khatam kar ye jaldi! Just get out of here!” Somehow I completed it. The only plus point was that out of 6, 5 candidates had called me as their subordinates. But I was completely dejected after CT.
 
DAY 5: Conference day. I went into the room, greeted the president. The conference went smooth, they asked me about my stay and how would I rate my performance and any suggestions to improve the place.

After a few hours, we were finally given our mobile phones and it was time for results. The officer talked about OLQ’s and told us not to get demotivated if we aren’t selected. He walked towards the podium, looked in his paper. There was dead silence for a few seconds. My heartbeats started escalating. Everyone eagerly looking at the officer. The officer said “Chest No. 23!” and I stood up, he gestured me to move out of the room and that was it. The moment you have worked hard for, the moment you feel you have achieved something huge and when you can finally say “Yes, I have it in me!” But I was emotionally numb for a couple of minutes. It took me time to digest the feeling, after a few minutes I got that sense of achievement.

My medicals were done at INHS Kalyani. I was given TR due to underweight. Came back to Mumbai and gained 8kgs and reported at INHS Asvini. Completed my medicals on 27th Jan 2020. Now waiting for the merit list.

It was a wonderful experience for me. It took me 5 days and 1400kms away from home to find my mental and physical limits. Got to learn a lot of things. The atmosphere in NSB is very strict and disciplined. Everyone would be yelling at you. I got a trailer as to how life in Naval Academy would be. Met a lot of new friends and enjoyed my time in NSB. We used to have fun after dinner, played table tennis and badminton, we chit-chatted about everything right from politics to ghosts. The brotherhood and friendship that develops within those 5 days is very unique and very close to my heart. I also made a few friends from the next batch that came to NSB.

I owe this to my parents, friends and my Jiju. My parents always had my back and never gave up on me even when I failed to clear NDA exam thrice. Friends play an imperative role in personality development and I was lucky to have a good friends circle in school as well as college. My jiju constantly guided me and his help was indispensable.

After the UPSC published the CDS 1 2020 result, 7018 aspirants who have cleared the CDS 1 2020 written exam for IMA, OTA, AFA and INA are asking for the SSB interview dates and when the SSB interview for CDS 1 2020 will start. CDS 1 2020 IMA 150 SSB Interview Dates

  • Update on 16 Sep 2020: SSB CENTRE FOR IMA-150 (DE) COURSE HAS BEEN ALLOTTED. CANDIDATES ARE ADVISED TO CHECK SSB DETAILS IN FEEDBACK/QUERY SECTION OF THEIR PROFILE. Candidates who qualified in the written exam and given their first choice as Army (IMA/OTA) are required to register themselves on the recruiting directorate website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in in order to enable them to receive call up information for SSB interview. Those candidates who have already registered on the recruiting directorate website are advised not to register again.

The tremendous response shown by Defence manufacturing companies and the partner countries, will surely hold Defence Expo 2020 on a higher pedestal in terms of the offerings for Defence related industries.

DefExpo Event and Theme:The main theme of the DefExpo India- 2020 is ‘India: The Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub’ and the focus will be on ‘Digital Transformation of Defence’. Participation

The number of companies registered for participating in the DefExpo 2020 has reached 1,028. In the DefExpo 2018, held in Chennai, 702 companies had participated. Thus, it has become by far the biggest ever DefExpo to be held in India.

The number of participating foreign companies has also increased to 172 from the previous figure of 160.

The booked exhibition space by exhibitors for DefExpo 2020 has gone up by 96 per cent to over 43,021 square metres, compared to around 27,000 during the last edition. Defence Ministers and Service Chiefs of 38 countries have confirmed their participation for the DefExpo 2020. A substantial number of Memoranda of Undertaking (MoUs) are expected to be inked during the Expo, resulting in forging of new business collaborations.

Program Details

Feb 5th 2020: Formal Inauguration of the event by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will be held, followed by live demonstration of Naval Systems, Aero Systems and Land Systems. Live Demonstration will be done for systems which are designed/built in India.

There will be three parallel business seminars on the opening day. These are being organized by industry associations and business chambers. The themes of the seminars will be, “Skill Development in Aviation & Defence”, “India – France Defence Industry Seminar” and “Indo- Israel -Opportunities in Defence Cooperation- Future Vectors of the Digital Battlefield”.

Raksha Mantri would also be hosting a reception for the guests on the evening of February 5. There will be Night illumination of anchored Navy vessels which will be a visual delight from the Gomati riverfront.

Feb 6th 2020: The fifth India Russia Military Industry Conference will be held on the sidelines of DefExpo 2020 at the venue. Over 100 Russian and over 200 Indian industry leaders are expected to participate.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh will preside African Defence Ministers’ Conclave. He will also host a dinner in the honour of African Defence Ministers.

The General Knowledge paper for CDS I, 2020 can be categorized as easy to moderate level when it comes to the difficulty scale. General Sciences had 30 questions with most of them falling in the easy category. 12 questions were asked from Chemistry whereas 9 questions were asked from Biology and Physics each. The questions from General Sciences required very basic knowledge of the subject. Coming to General Studies, history was on the moderate side. Considerable number of questions were from Modern History as expected, but medieval history had a good share in this installment.

A few questions were also asked from ancient history. Although most of the General studies was easy to moderate but the same was not true for Geography. The questions from Geography was high on the difficulty scale. Most of the questions were from Indian and Physical geography. The questions from Economy were of moderate level with a few direct questions. The polity section had question of moderate difficulty. It needed in-depth understanding of concepts and knowledge of relevant facts. The current affairs were direct, and knowledge of past one-year current affair would have sufficed.

CDS 1 2020 English paper consists of 12 sections with 10 questions devoted to each section, therefore equally distributing 100 marks in totality. The paper this year has been set with quite an advance intensive level of difficulty & needed an overall depth of thorough grammatical knowledge in the subject to score good marks. The paper is mostly focused on the English grammar & its technicalities & therefore it would have been quite a herculean task for those who had taken the grammar lightly & have just grazed the surface of it. The passages from the Comprehension section in this paper are lesser in number but the candidate needs a good reading habit to ace the word play infused with tricky ideas & complex views of the author, to answer the questions. My recommendation would have been to approach this section at the very end of the paper to devote quite an amount of time to comprehend & answer the questions. Majority of the questions from Spotting Errors section came from the tense & Subject-Verb agreement errors, though the candidate had to have quite a careful eye to detect wrong usage of words in a couple of questions. Ordering of Words in a Sentence would have been an easier section to solve, while the Idioms & Phrases section needed an average knowledge of the candidate’s vocabulary & reading practice. Surprisingly, Ordering of Sentences was a piece of cake for those who knew to connect the dots easily & logically & certainly, for those who knew the shortcut tricks to answer this section! Fill in the Blanks questions needed a good knowledge of the use of certain noun & verb phrases, while the questions from Synonyms & Antonyms were easier to solve provided they were given in the form of sentences, which are quite easier to guess than single words! What changed the game this year were the questions from Parts of Speech & Transformation of Sentences sections. The pattern of the questions are quite different & harder than the previous years’. The Parts of Speech questions required a greater knowledge of what is what in English grammar & the Transformation of Sentences is needed framing & contracting different kinds of sentences into suitable ones. Spelling section asked the candidates to point out words with easy to average level of spelling mistakes which would have been a simple job for those who are in the reading habit. Questions from Reported Speech section followed the general pattern & standard level of difficulty & would be  a scoring section for the candidates who practiced the question patterns well. Overall, the CDS 1 2020 paper on English was a hard nut to crack for it requires an expert level of knowledge & thorough conceptual understanding of Grammatical technicalities of the candidate to ace good marks in this paper.
