Defense Collaboration: The Need of the Hour for India

0
China vs Indian Fight Army

Foreign investment is opted as the best way to attract huge investment in India. Well, this has been a best option in many fields. But the defense has shown a spurt in the investment. Several collaborations have been initiated after the defense has been opened for it.

In a major step towards the bulky defense manufacturing, Lockheed Martin, Sweden’s SAAB and Boeing are scouting to collaborate with India. The ultimate aim is to get into the 1 lakh Crore defense manufacturing market of India. The move was further strengthened after relaxation in FDI norms for defense.

Well, talking about the relaxed FDI norms, the FDI is extended up to 100%, by doing away in State of Arts condition. Previously, the norms were limited to the 49% under automatic routes and approvals are required for further extensions.

Similarly, TATA, which has emerged as a new defense manufacturing hunk in last few decades, has collaborated with Bell helicopters of US to make helicopters. The manufacturing will be under Make in India initiative. The deal will be for the training, R&D, assembly and maintenance and other facilities.

On the same line, Sukhoi and India had a long history of military conjunction. Sukhoi has given the best air support and fighting experience to the Indian Air Force. The jet has been listed among the best aircrafts of the world. Well, India is already going through a shortage of squadrons. The required number of squadrons is 42, while the current number of squadrons in the IAF is 33. Recently, India and Russia have resumed talks about the stalled project of fifth generation aircraft FGFA and upgrading the current Sukhoi 30 MKI into Super Sukhoi by integrating AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) Radars and Long-Range Standoff Missiles. Such projects are focused by the Indian Defense Department to reduce the dependence over Old Russian Mig aircrafts. Moreover, induction of Tejas and possible induction of Rafale in the future will further strengthen the IAF. The closest competitor Pakistan is also gearing up its air force with F-16 and other military weapons. Further, about 120 Tejas are expected to join the IAF and the delayed Rafale deal will be a great achievement for India. In a bit to enhance the capabilities, the 60 Mig and mirage will be upgraded.

The up gradation and foreign investment in the defense sector are very crucial for bolstering the Armed Forces to counter the rising power of China and Pakistan. Pakistan is expanding its weapon power with the help of the Chinese assistance and using the U.S. financial aid, which seems to be under trouble these days. Well, Russia, the all-weather friend of India and the emerging military relations with U.S, is the rise of the new era in Indian weapon field. Foreign investment has become a boon for Indian defense market. Further the engagement of Indian government with other small nations to provide them military weapons, has made a huge impact of India over small south Indian nations. These all conclude the bright future of the Indian defense arena.

INDIA On The Way To Arms Exchange

0
INDIAN ARMY WEAPONS

The Armed Forces of India are going on the route or arming themselves with own home made indigenous weapons and warheads. Some of them are released successfully (Tejas (LCA), Agni missiles, INS Cochin etc), while some of them are under construction like LCH, AMCA and others.

Coming to the point, it is seen that the indigenous manufactured warheads are not purely indigenous i.e. many parts of them are imported from foreign superpowers. Talking about the recently released LCA Tejas, which is made to replace the entire Mig-21 force, Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar said that the jet contains about 40% of foreign material.  While the main battle tank, Arjun has got 55% of its material from foreign players. The Indian army has inducted 124 MTBs and has also ordered 100 new generation tanks. The tank has got some weight issues and delays in manufacturing like LCA project. Some other projects of DRDO that have got significant foreign assistance are Nag missile – 30%, Airborne Early Warning & Control System – 16%, Free Fall Combat System – 35%, Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket System – 10% , Prithvi And Agni Missiles – 15%.

The weapons made with the collaboration with other nations also has more material from the co-partnering nation. BRAHMOS has got 65% of its material from Russia. While LRSAM has about 60% material form Israel. India’s contribution in both the projects is less than half.INDIAN ARMY WEAPONS

Well, India is also adjusting its place in the field of arms exporters. India has stepped forward in exporting BRAHMOS missile to Vietnam, which has become a good friend of India after Vietnam came into deal of 11 oil blocks with India. South Africa, Brazil, Indonesia and Chile are also preferring to buy this missile. While UAE, Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia have shown their interest in it. The deal is very close to be sealed, but there is no clarification made over Russia’s clearance in this deal. Some allegations of exporting plans of Tejas are also reported from sources. The jet is recently inducted into IAF after long awaited delay. Further exports will be based on the performance of the jet. The jet has been made to make it best of its kind, but still some shortcomings are there. The jet is good for dog fights, but not for deep penetrations. Factually, India’s arms export just counts about 4% of the arms, ammunition and equipment’s imported by the India. In 2014, India exported Barracuda offshore patrol vessel to Mauritius. It was India’s first warship export to Mauritius. Previously, India has gifted some ships to small nations like Maldives, Seychelles, and Mauritius etc.

The export of weapons is expected to increase in the future with the hike in deep international relations with small and worthy nations. Moreover, the growing relations with Vietnam seems to become an issue between India and China as Vietnam is truce with China over the issue of South China Sea. Well, the exchange of weapons is necessary for India in order to stabilize its military power and for self-preparedness for quick action and response.

Ray Of Hope For Missing AN-32 Survivors: Cell Rings, ‘Last Seen’ July 26

0
AN 32 Indian Air Force

It been days since the Indian Air Force’s Missing AN-32 aircraft went missing, and there’s still not a clue about the plane and the people on board. But a ray of hope finally emerges as the family of one of the men on board claimed that the Airtel number of Airman Raghuvir Verma’s phone was ringing for a short time.

As reported by News18, they said that his Airtel number was ‘on’ and rang a few times after continuous dialling over the last two days. Also, the ‘last seen’ status on his WhatsApp messenger app was showing July 26, four days after the flight went missing on July 22.

According to Raghivur’s father, it was Raghuvir’s mother who first found out that the phone was ringing last evening. But they did not pay much attention to her and thought it to be a rant of a depressed mind. But when they called that number which remained switched off since the plane disappeared, it was ringing. “Miracles happen, don’t they?” asked Raghuvir’s emotional father.

He also added that Raghuvir was coming home on a holiday and asked his father to receive him at the airport minutes before he boarded his flight from the Tambaram air base in Chennai.

IAF and CID officials have been informed about this incident. Raghuvir’s call records will now be examined and once traced, it could give an idea about the location of Raghuvir’s phone, and eventually, his co-passengers and the aircraft.Missing AN_32 Briefing

Raghuvir was posted in Barmer, Rajasthan. It was his first posting after his training in communications in the IAF 2 years ago. His SIM card was also registered in Rajasthan.

Even though a massive search operation was launched, there is hardly any progress on tracking the missing aircraft or ascertaining the reason for its crash.

With time running out, India is seeking help from American defence forces to ascertain whether their satellites had picked up any signal before the disappearance of the plane while rubbishing the possibility of any sabotage.

An international safety network has also been activated to alert merchant ships passing through the area to look out for survivors and debris.

But big questions still raises, like

  • What if someone has found Raghuvir’s mobile and they are not certain about its source or who it belonged to?
  • Maybe, MAYBE, they are held as hostages somewhere (though it’s very unlikely because our military soldiers are not so forgiving and yielding).
  • Maybe, he forgot his phone in Barmer itself and was not carrying it with him.

Questions are more but any answers can be revealed only if authorities find any clue about the missing aircraft. What are your opinions on this?

BCCI Chief Anurag Thakur Joining Indian Territorial Army

The 41-year-old BJP MP will be commissioned into the Territorial Army (TA) as a regular officer on Friday.

Anurag Thakur Cracked SSB Interview and TA Written exam

Thakur made it to the TA after clearing an exam and a personal interview conducted in Chandigarh and training held in Bhopal. As a regular officer, the Lok Sabha member from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh will have to undergo a mandatory training. BCCI Chief Anurag Thakur Joining Indian Territorial Army

Territorial Army

The Territorial Army, the second line of defence after the regular army, is composed of volunteers who receive military training for about a month in a year so that in case of an emergency they can be mobilised for the defence of the country. Anurag Thakur will be joining the TerritorialArmy on 29th July 2016

The Territorial Army is not a profession, occupation or a source of employment. It is only meant for people who are already in mainstay civilian professions. In fact, gainful employment or self-employment in a civil profession is a pre-requisite for joining the Territorial Army.

Thakur’s grandfather was also in the army. The BJP MP wanted to join the armed forces but could not do so as his career got diverted to cricket and politics.
