6 Things You Should Know About ISRO’s RLV-TD

ISRO showed once again why it is among the best in the world and the best in India by showing its latest technological demonstration of the REUSABLE LAUNCH VEHICLE- TECHNOLOGY DEMENSTRATER or RLV-TD. The success of this puts India in a comfortable position towards making a reusable shuttle. Recently SpaceX demonstrated its ability to  reuse a vehicle and land it back on a platform in the sea. RLV did something similar to it, by landing at the predefined point exactly in the sea. We bring you the key points that will help you in understanding RLV.

1.The reusable launch vehicle , as the name suggests is basically a launch vehicle which will take satellites to space, come back to earth and can be used again for a similar purpose. By doing so we can cut the cost of the launch to almost 80% as most of the cost involved in the launch goes to the launch vehicle.

2. The Test conducted by ISRO is a pre-test to an upcoming test. The launch vehicle was take up 70km and then ditched its boosters and made a re-entry into the earth. During the re-entry, the shuttle was controlled by wings to its designated point in the sea.

3. The reusable launch vehicle made entry into the earth at a hypersonic speed ie above 5 MACH, this also allowed ISRO to test the material used in such reusable launch vehicles. Post analysis of the vehicle will reveal this data. Since it made an entry in hypersonic speed the experiment is also called as RLV-TD HEX.

4.The cost of the whole test is about 95 crore which is very much less compared to other nations which are trying to build an RLV. ISRO is known for its cost effectiveness once again proved its worth.

5.No other country is currently operationally flying a winged spacecraft into space – the US retired its space shuttles in 2011 and the Russians flew theirs only once in 1989.

6.A total of four RLV-TD flights is planned by ISRO.

  • HEX (Hypersonic Flight Experiment) —Successfully launched on 23 May 2016.
  • LEX (Landing Experiment)
  • REX (Return Flight Experiment)
  • SPEX (Scramjet Propulsion Experiment)on march2017

Though the demonstration is a very small step in the whole process of building a reusable launch vehicle, precision mattered and the ISRO delivered it yet again. The ISRO has also said that it will take at least 10 years for actual flight to happen. With the US proving its ability to reuse launch vehicle recently and the ISRO step towards achieving its own space travel just got even more exciting.

Women Officers Getting Training For Combat Support Role At OTA Chennai

Defence forces are finally opening combat roles for women officers. While three women cadets of the Indian Air Force train to become fighter pilots, the Army is also gearing up to accommodate women as combatant members.

A group of women cadets are undergoing training at Officers Training Academy (OTA) – Chennai in combat support which majorly includes combat engineers and air defence. Senior Army officers say depending on the response and feedback from the training and experience, further decision will be taken on their induction in combat roles.

The Army is also considering permanent commission for women officers in a few additional combat support, said Army PRO Colonel Rohan.

The Indian Army is currently considering offering permanent commission to women officers in a few additional combat support and technical arms and services, said Colonel Anand.

“Based on the experience gained and feedback from the environment, on the current employment of women officers in various arms and services, their enhanced employment will be considered at an appropriate time,” the officer added.

Even though the first batch is being trained at OTA Chennai, but as and when the number of women cadets increase, there are chances of them being admitted to other training academies too. The women cadets are also given basic training of handling weapons.

 

As of January 2016, the Indian Army has 1,470 women officers. Every year, nearly 100 women officers are being commissioned into the Army.

When asked whether the proposal to induct women officers was because of shortage of officers in Army, Colonel Anand replied in the negative. “No, I don’t think so. It is mainly done on gender equality.”

 

In March 2016, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had told the Lok Sabha that the “Army (excluding Army Medical Corps, Army Dental Corps and Military Nursing Service), as on July 1, 2015, against the authorized strength of 49,631 officers, held strength of officers is 40,525 with shortage of 9,106”.

After President Pranab Mukherjee in his joint address to Parliament on the first day of the 2016 Budget session said women officers will be inducted in fighter streams in armed forces, the proposal has been moving in a positive direction.

Till now, women officers are restricted to the engineering, medical and education corps. They are primarily commissioned as Short Service Officers.

While the IAF will commission its first women fighter pilot on June 18, 2016, the Army it will take some time.

According to senior officers it is because in the IAF there is human-to-machine contact but in Army it is human-to-human contact.

While the defence forces opened their door to women officers only in 1992, there is still some way to go before they see combat.

What is Nuclear Suppliers Group or NSG?

Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) is a multinational body concerned with reducing nuclear proliferation by controlling the export and transfer of materials that may be applicable to nuclear weapon development and by improving safeguards and protection on existing materials.

Why was it formed and what was it objective ?

The NSG was founded in response to the Indian nuclear test in May 1974 and first met in November 1975. The test demonstrated that certain non-weapons specific nuclear technology could be readily turned to weapons development. Nations already signatories of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) saw the need to further limit the export of nuclear equipment, materials or technology

Initially the NSG had seven participating governments: Canada, West Germany, France, Japan, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The main objective of the group was to bring the everything under the nuclear trade into control and make sure it has a peaceful usage and not into weapon making.

Where does India stand in the NSG?

India a no signatory of the NPT was not allowed to be a part of the NSG initially. But in July 2006, the United States Congress amended U.S. law to accommodate civilian nuclear trade with India.

In 2008, the NSG participating governments agreed to grant India a “clean waiver” from its existing rules, which forbid nuclear trade with a country which has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The NSG’s decision came after three days of intense U.S. diplomacy.The approval was based on a formal pledge by India stating that it would not share sensitive nuclear technology or material with others and would uphold its voluntary moratorium on testing nuclear weapons.

What was the recent development in this regard?

Recently when most of the superpowers of the world agreed to bring in India into the NSG, China openly opposed this move. This confirms two things, first India cannot expect support from china in the world forum. Two, China though stating it is not hindering India’s growth wants itself to b the only powerhouse in the Asian continent

What are the Main reasons China is opposing the NSG’s move toward India?

Many reasons but mainly it is the common enemy both China and Pakistan see in India. Advantages of joining the 48 members powerful group are immense especially bringing India to nuclear mainstream & acceptance of India’s nuclear status.India would become the first country outside Non-Proliferation Treaty to become a member.

China is worried Pakistan will be left out.Once India enters the NSG, it will have the power to thwart Pakistan’s inclusion. China wants Pakistans inclusion along with India so that the parity of India-Pak is seen to the world and not India-China.

Recommended For Indian Army From Allahabad In 1st Attempt

I appeared for Combined Defence Services(2) Examination held by Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) on November 1, 2015. After giving my exam, I matched my answers with online keys available and I was hopeful that I will pass this exam. I was happy, since I had prepared on my own by looking for various sources online(including SSB Crack). My Di also helped me in gathering of the resources. After waiting for a long time and checking the UPSC website on a daily basis, finally in mid-February just before CDSE(1), 2016, the results were declared and I qualified for all 3 choices – Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Officers Training Academy. My preference was IMA for Permanent Commission, so later I got a call for being interviewed by the Service Selection Board(SSB), Allahabad of the Ministry of Defence on 25th March, 2016, for admission to Indian Military Academy, Dehradun 141th Course commencing in July, 2016.

SSB Preparation
I was really happy but at the same time I was confused too because it was my first attempt. I had never faced SSB interview ever and moreover, the myths around it were just too many. Many suggested me to go for a coaching but after analysis and taking review from my friends, I decided not to waste my time and energy in coaching. Rather than that, I worked on enhancing my personality, which I was doing from the day I joined engineering and continued my life as usual. I devoted some of my time in watching some videos of AFOSOP on YouTube that helped me in further clearing the myth that coaching is a necessary evil. I further introspected deeply in myself to look what I am made of. From my childhood, I have a habit of diary writing, so looking back in those pages helped me know myself, my strengths and weaknesses and I improved myself on a daily basis. Rather than focusing on the format of SSB Interview, I worked hard on developing myself. I was sure that I want to serve this nation, so I took a tough decision of not sitting in College placements and wasting my time and energy. I was closer to prove my name Avichal, which means steadfast & unlikely to change, fail or collapse. Everyone was just forcing me to get a ‘job’ but thankfully my family and some of my close friends supported me and I was uninfluenced from any comment on my capability. I was sure that I was not made for a private sector “#placement”. There were many who murmured a lot about my life and choices, but I think their doubt about me also helped me in removing their doubts later on. I always remembered one of my favorite poems, “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost when in confusion and that helped me not to waste my time on thinking about non-important issues. Well, moving on I daily just followed a strict schedule comprising of various activities like physical exercises like running and gym workouts, studying a lot about everything going around the globe and doing whatever I could to improve myself as a person. Looking back, I can just say I did whatever I could focusing on just a single target irrespective of what people were doing around me. And that really helped me in making me more confident in the end. Meanwhile, I was also enjoying my last year of Engineering with my close friends.
My First Train Journey
Wait, what? First train journey? Yes! It was my first train journey to a distant place. I never travelled in a train because I never got a chance to do so. It is a very common thing for Indians to travel in a train & for many train is like a second home, but since it was my first, I was really excited. Thanks to Pallavi Di that she arranged a ticket for me in Prayag Raj Express from Delhi to Allahabad and even helped me boarding it. I even didn’t knew that in 3A, windows don’t open. I know its funny, but ‘Yahi Sach Hai’. 😀 I was told by a lady to change my seat from Side Lower to Upper Berth, that was also something new since I thought seats were fixed. But don’t laugh at me, “Yaar, pehli baar tha mera”! 😉 Well, I slept while reading “Turning Points” of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam ji. Next when I woke up, I was already in Allahabad and deboarded immediately.

SSB Interview Screening Test
I went to Movement Control Office(MCO) at Allahabad Station later at around 1 PM on 25th March’16 and all the candidates were taken to SSB Center. Then, I along with 81 others, was allotted 18 SSB, the HAJIPIR Building! The day we boarded was good and I made a few friends. The next day(26th March’16) we packed our bags, dressed well and went for our 1st Day Screening Test. It all went really good. The process was really fantastic. For the first time in my life, I was appearing for SSB and it was a really rich experience. The PPDT was good, GD was even better. All my group members eventually agreed on my story. And finally after the results were announced, my chest number was changed from ‘8’ to ‘4’! And I was really happy! Day 2 to Day 4

I was really excited because I knew literally nothing. Everything was going to be a challenge and that was the real ‘KICK’! On Day 2, the 38 recommended candidates reached the venue. After a brief introduction of what tests would be conducted, the tests started.

TAT
It went well. All of my stories had the central character in a positive state of mind and was a strategist, solving problems with team work. Basically, I wrote every story keeping myself in place of the central character thinking what best I could have done in that situation. In the blank story, I wrote about myself how I managed my previous shortcomings to become a stronger self.

WAT
Now, this was challenging! The time was really very less. I was not able to use my conscious mind at all. The first thought that came to my mind went on the paper. And I think only this was demanded.

SRT
Again, I just kept myself in the situation given and wrote what I actually would have done instead of making out anything. The reality is you can’t make anything either, the time they give is really LESS!

Self Description
In this I was a bit slow and wasn’t able to attempt “The qualities you’d like to improve”. But, in this test I was natural, wrote what I knew through my experiences which I read in my personal diary!

INTERVIEW
My interview was scheduled the same day. I was excited, because this was going to be my first ever interview in life! The SSB environment added flavors to it. I was in the candidate waiting hall and I was reading Frontline kept over there. Suddenly my chest number flashed and I went straightaway into the room. The aura was just totally different. I wished my Interviewing Officer. The first question was, “What does your name mean?”. The whole interview was a very informal interview revolving around my family, friends, hobbies and general awareness. I kept my answers on an ideological level and I had strong reasons behind every answer, again because I knew everything about myself because of my personal diary. There were some tricks played like my IO sir deliberately yawned 3-4 times and I knew it was deliberate because IO sir’s eyes were opened. And that’s the benefit of keeping EYE CONTACT while talking to someone. My voice was loud, clear, my answers were good because I had strong reasons behind them and I maintained eye contact throughout. After coming out, I was really happy because I gave my best.

Day 3
Our GTO sir briefed us and he was very helpful throughout.
GTO sir’s Tip : FOLLOW THE RULES. And I did that whether I was able to give my perceived best or not. My tip for everyone, you MUST follow the rules.

Group Discussion
My group had GD on 2 topics – ‘Why INDIA is not able to realize its potential in sports other than cricket’ and ‘Why road accidents in INDIA are increasing’. The GD went well. I initiated the GD in both. It was a very healthy discussion and everyone participated well.

Group Planning Exercise
This was something really new. The GPE was tough, not because it was tough but because everyone had different plans of action. I followed my friend Rajat Taneja’s (He was in different group and briefed me about GPE the previous night) advice. The GD that followed was really good because every one was totally on a different track. In this task too, all my group members agreed upon my solution and that was the best thing possible!

Progressive Group Task
In this task I was totally clueless. The ‘Balli, Fatta’ concept was unknown to me. But I did my best. I helped my teammates and gave my ideas immediately as they came across my mind.

Snake Race
This was the most fascinating task I did in SSB! My group chose ‘Har Har Mahadev’ as war cry. And I was leading in this helping my teammates as much as possible. I was probably the only one who shouted the war cry throughout and as a result my throat got upset! But I didn’t felt anything at that time. It was such a wonderful experience moving with people towards a common goal, helping each other and shouting the war cry. We actually won the race, but someone broke the rule so GTO sir told 4 of us to go back and do the last obstacle again. I was the first one to volunteer and shouting ‘Har Har Mahadev’ did that too.

Day 4

Lecturette
Now this was really challenging for me because my ‘loud and clear’ voice was gone and throat was upset. I did my best clearing it but nothing worked. But this increased the ‘KICK’ flavor. When my turn came, I chose the most difficult topic of all four given – “The formation of new states as a tool of development of our nation.” and I started my Lecturette with, “Sorry Gentlemen for my upset throat, because of the war cry yesterday”. And despite my upset throat, I was confident and I gave some good points in my lecturette. It was because I read THE HINDU daily and it is easy for a regular reader of THE HINDU to give some good points.

Half Group Task
I learned from my mistakes in PGT. This time I lead and was confident in giving my ideas. It went well with the teamwork.

Individual Obstacles
I initially thought it was VERY easy. But it turned out to be different for me. I chose to start from obstacle number 3, which was ‘Balancing Beam’. I was too slow on that because of which I fell down and got hurt. But I left that immediately and completed all the remaining tasks easily and well in time. Then, I came back to obstacle number 3 and this time I completed it and suddenly the whistle was blown and my turn was over. But I felt good because I at least completed the 10 obstacles assigned after initial failure to complete obstacle number 3.

Command Task
This was also exciting. I was called up by 6 of my 10 group members as a subordinate. In my turn, I felt the CT was a bit difficult than the rest CTs I saw. But I managed it well and was able to complete the given task. I tested the strength of the formations myself and used the subordinates only for passing on the material and tying the rope.

Final Group Task
This was the last task. So, I was again excited to perform well. I gave ideas along with my teammates and we were able to perform well in FGT. Again the RULE is to FOLLOW THE RULES!

Day 5 – DOOMSDAY or THE CONFERENCE DAY
I was happy because this whole experience of SSB was marvelous. For the first time in my life, I met so many people who were aware, who were defence aspirants, who wanted to do something for our nation, who had knowledge, who had everything I ever wanted in a friend. I was fortunate enough to make some good friends and have discussions about issues related to our nation. This was all going to end. We all went to the venue well dressed as usual. When I was called in the conference room, I was excited (again) because I never saw so many ARMY Officers in uniform in a single room. My conference went for just 20 seconds. Basic questions were asked, “How was your stay here?” & “Any Suggestions”! And it was over. I went back to the Chanakya Hall where we all were seated. After conference of everyone was over, many guys were telling me, “Freshers ka nahi hota Allahabad me. Allahabad Rejection Center hai.” and stuff like that. But I was cool because I did what I can and moreover I got to know what SSB is. When the results were about to announce, I just had one thing in my mind, “Do I have it in me?”! And my name was announced, “CHEST NUMBER 4, AVICHAL SHARMA”! And everyone started clapping. Now that felt really good. And I said to myself, “I gave my best and I have IT in me.”! A new chest number with the ‘+’ sign was given to me. On 30th March, 2016 I got recommended by 18 SSB, Allahabad to join IMA-141.

MEDICALS
Now, this is something most people don’t know about. If you think, SSB Allahabad is a rejection center then I can’t say much. But Military Hospital, Allahabad is definitely a rejection hospital. “Patience” + “FIT” tag is what you require there. There was a twist in my medicals though. I was around 71 kg because of my gym workouts. I was bulking up and being muscular was a priority.(I go to gym from 2012, my Instagram ID – ‘iavichalsharma’ will tell you more). Now, I came to know that according to my height and weight I should have 64 kg weight at most. It is my mistake though, that I should have known this before. To my luck, the MEDICINE OPD doctor was to come in MH after 5-6 days. And my new task began. 7 kgs in 6 days? And I did that too. I woke up at 3 AM during my medicals and ran for 10km in a day for the remaining days, did a lot of cardio(High-Intensity Interval Training) and in addition to that and restricted my diet as much as possible. And on the day of medicine OPD, I just didn’t wanted to get a TR. And my weight was 64.2 kg. I definitely had muscle loss which I didn’t wanted and I was really exhausted. I won’t recommend anyone doing this crash course. I regularly train in gym and do HIIT, that’s why I was able to sustain. I didn’t got a Weight TR because of the motivation that I have to go without a TR and my recommended GCs from 18 SSB, Allahabad – Rajat Taneja, Palash Gupta, Amlan Phukan, Zubair Talha constantly pushed me. They were with me in this whole process and they are really true leaders and friends. After I was fully physically FIT, then I felt accomplished. The next twist was, our medical conference was in the morning. But due to unexpected delays, it was shifted to 5 PM. My train from Allahabad to Meerut was scheduled at 5:30 PM and I thought I won’t be able to board my train. The medical conference was further delayed to 6:30 PM where I was FIT. Luckily, Sangam Express also got delayed by 1 hour 30 minutes. Now, my recommended friends helped me to get out fast. And in half an hour, I reached from MH, Allahabad to my dormitory in Hajipir Building to Railway Station, Allahabad. I boarded my train just 1 minute before its departure. And that completed my SSB journey. I loved it!

So, It was my first CDS Attempt, first SSB Attempt, first Medical and yes, first train travel experience. And I did it all without Coaching. If I can do it, you too can! Obviously, you don’t need coaching for traveling in a train at least. LOL! 😀

My name is Suryakant Singh from Ballia UP and i want to share my success story to aspirants of ssb. CDS IMA 141. Actually it was not a part of my dream because of SSB’s uncertainty and rejection ratio. I cleared written exam of CDS(II)2015 and get call letter for SSB at Allahabad(rejection board).

Reporting Day:- I was allotted 11SSB famously known for washing out the batch. Document verification was done.for me it was ok.

Screening Test:- No one knows what       they see for screen in…..i too
guyz u know all procedure.
from my experience …in screening be crisp and responsive( i.e. the result and conclusion of story should come fast and within ur story.Avoid writing story in which hero produces result after 2 yrs like that.Hope you understand) while writing story .Explain with smile and there should be no any negativity while explanation.try to attempt all the intelligence test.Take it granted…it matter a lot.

Day 2:- Psychology

TAT:- write story  based on ur own personal capacity rather that you are writing beyond ur limits and what u can’t do in real life.Make them positive and try to show your all OLQs within it.

WAT:- Attempt Maximum …i attempted all WAT . please attempt all those Words which carry negative meaning.

SRT:- write to the point. Don’t consider grammar too much .Keep it short and simple.my score was 57/60.

SD:-BE truthful to yourself. know yourself and if possible for you directly ask ur friends teacher parents and all concerned that what they think about you.(i deed the same.)

Day 3:- GTO/ PI

PERSONAL INTERVIEW:-
i was interviewed for 1 hour. It was as smooth as talking to a known friend. I was asked general knowledge questions along with some question from hobbies and interest . few question from how do i spend my money. Believe me…once your interview is over..your ssb is almost completed by 80%.
Tips-1) Face interviewer with smile and confidence.
2) Be truthful
3)Answer all the question.sometimes interviewer will try to be dominant on you, handle situation with smiling face.
4) Avoid less answers ending with I DON’T KNOW SIR

GTO:- Show your all OLQs here in every activity.
Motivate and encourage them in GOR. provide good and analytical point in GD/GPE. Don’t fear to attempt any of the IO. Either don’t see it or attempt with courage when u see it. Dont stammer while speaking in Lecturette. Provide ideas in PGT/HGT/FGT.Recommended For Indian Military Academy In 1st Attempt
Act as an efficient commander while in CT.
Overall GTO is quite good and easy and needs presence of mind to handle it smoothly.

Conference:- Almost there were 15 officers along with Commandant(Major General).
My conference lasted only 30 seconds. I thought that it has been well said for Allahabad SSB that it is ‘Heaven for Repeaters’. I thought that i am a fresher having nill chance with 30 second conference.Trust me, performance of your 3 day and interview matter.

I was conference in and recommended by 11 SSB in first attempt. For me, it was as easy to have meal.

I was asked one question in conference that ‘Mr. Suryakant Tell me your experience about SSB’-my reply was” sir ,for me SSB was just like a game. I came here played it enjoyed the stay here and made a lot of friends.”

In this way my SSB was over and I am medically fit also waiting for joining letter of IMA.

A Nuke Attack From Pakistan: Can India Defend Itself?

Humans are very curious organisms. From discovering the minute electrons to exploring the cast universe – they’ve done it all. And all that come as a result of the curious questions they ask – “what if?”

Similarly, a user on Quora posted a question asking what if Pakistan decided to nuke India. Can India defend itself? And then can India strike back as retaliation?

The answer is yes, India can defend major cities from any Pakistani Nuclear strike but Pakistan cannot defend even Islamabad. India is the fourth country to have successfully developed Anti-ballistic missile systems like the recently tested Agni-I and Agni-IV.

Well, Pakistan would really take the big step against India first only if they want their map to be erased from the world. And that would well be done by India itself moments after the attack.

Once started, the nuclear attack will take no time to turn into a major war, crippling the Pakistani army gradually. Attempts at an armistice or peace will bear no results then, let alone the ceasefire.

India has lost so much in the Pakistani tangle over six decades, including parts of Kashmir, that the government will automatically initiate the final second-strike option without giving it a thought. And India will do that from the seas, air, and land. Our BrahMos missiles are not made just to sit in the museums as showcases!

Pakistan will be baffled figuring out the strategies of Indian forces. India’s Cold Start Doctrine and Exercise Shatrujeet were undertaken for a reason.

Pakistan would be nearly totally wiped out with its urban population nearing to zero. Definitely, India will lose crores too in the war, but we will dust ourselves, get up, and get moving. In another 20 years, we would perhaps be where we were before all of this. And Pakistan would be nowhere on the world map.

Even Pakistan’s allies and sympathisers like America and Russia would be astonished and would at once want to settle all deals with the countries in the region, as it would be utter chaos.Indian Pakistan Nuke

Skirmishes would erupt across the world, and no one would be able to douse the fire for years. The global political system will get rebooted. All assumptions and formats will be reset. A new world will emerge. And that will be without a nation named Pakistan.

Concluding, a first-strike nuclear attack is not a wise idea at all for anyone in the world today, let alone a terror-infested, rogue-generals-controlled, foreign-aid-fed economy like Pakistan. It will breed immense hostility from everyone else in the world, including in Pakistan’s case the supposedly all-weather friend America, who would be very unhappy seeing the carefully-built charade and facade blow apart.

Let’s just hope it never happens. Let peace prevail, let business prevail, let prosperity be our permanent ally.

6 Soldiers of 29 Assam Rifles Killed in Manipur Ambush

Heavily armed rebels ambushed and killed six Indian paramilitary soldiers, including one Junior Commissioned Officer, on Sunday, 22nd May. This is the latest attack in India’s insurgency-wracked north-eastern region which borders Myanmar.

The security personnel was returning after inspecting a landslide site in the interior tribal district Chandel in Manipur when the insurgents ambushed and fired at a three-vehicle convoy.

The convoy was of 29 Assam Rifles. All six occupants of the front jeep were killed in the attack. The soldiers in the other two vehicles sped away and managed to escape the attack.

Apart from the casualties, the militants took off with one LMG, four AK 47s, and one Insas Rifle.

Chandel has been one of the most violent districts of Manipur, due to its shared border with Myanmar making it easy for militants to enter the country, attack and then escape across the border.

The region is infested with active militant groups that operate from both sides of the India-Myanmar border. The attack occurred on the Indian side, about 15 kilometers from the border.

In one of the same incidents in Manipur in June last year, the NSCN(K) rebels used rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons to ambush an Indian military convoy, killing 18 soldiers in the same area of the 6 Dogra Regiment.

The reason for the attack was the separatist groups’ accusations on Indian government regarding the exploitation of the region’s rich natural resources while neglecting local development. However, the motive behind this attack so far remains unclear.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh directed the security forces to take “strongest possible action” against the militants involved in the killing of the 6 Assam Rifles personnel including a JCO.

Reinforcements have been rushed to the scene of the ambush and a massive combing operation is under way.

The martyrs are Subedar BK Sharma from Himachal Pradesh, Hav Surjeet Barla from Jharkhand, Rifleman Mahesh Gurung from Uttrakhand, Rifleman AK Pandey from Bihar, Rifleman Pawan Kumar from J&K and Rifleman Bhupinder Singh from Himachal Pradesh.

The mortal remains of the martyrs are being flown to their hometowns by a team of Assam Rifles personnel.

Hello everyone my name is Aman Pandey. I thought to share my experience of getting recommended for 10+2 B.Tech entry Navy. “RECOMMENDATION FROM SSB”- My Biggest Dream came true in Naval Selection Board Visakhapatnam. After 3 failures in SSB finally, I was recommended in my 4th attempt.

DAY 1-Screening
We were done with the OIRT. I was able to do all questions except 3-4 very tricky ones. Now the PPDT started. The picture flashed and we wrote down our respective stories.
Now the Discussion Test started. I gave very confident narration of my story. During the discussion everything was like FISH MARKET. I tried calming them down but no one listened to me, then i decided not to take part in encouraging this fish market. I kept quite. As a result of all of these our discussion was not healthy.
Here comes the time of RESULT of 1st day!

I was chest no 23 initially. The result was being announced chest no wise. 1..2..3…(in ascending order). after announcing few chest nos the officer said “OK GENTLEMEN THAT’S ALL FOR TODAY,YOU MAY LEAVE.” The officer who was announcing the result did not shout my chest no! i was disappointed with myself.
then the officer said “WAIT!! ONE IS LEFT!!………..” (after pause of 3-4 seconds he said) “chest no 23!”
oh god! this moment was breathtaking for me!
finally i was screened in. we were allotted new chest nos.Recommended For Indian Navy Technical Entry In 4th Attempt

IMPORTANT POINTS:
1)Attempt every question in OIRT
2)Be as natural as you can while doing anything.
3)While writing story in PPDT show actions. Like if your hero has done something show how has he done it? What all preparations he did.
4)Introduce your character in narration properly.
5)Be confident while narration and GD.

Now my interview was scheduled that day only. I was dressed well with nicely ironed light colored shirt trouser tie. Visakhapatnam had very very moist weather at that time. I was full of sweat. waterfall was running from my whole body! i entered the IO’s room with a smile and confident gesture. He offered hand shake, I did a warm handshake and sat on chair after he told me to sit.. there was a slight relief from the moist weather of Visakhapatnam as i entered an air-conditioned room. But very soon that relief was destroyed when he started asking me questions! for 5 minutes the IO asked personal questions about family and my friends. just after 5 minutes he started throwing GK questions! and as most of the science students i am also weak at GK. he kept asking me GK questions i kept answering “ I DON’T KNOW SIR!” again and again “I DON’T KNOW SIR!”. even he understood that i am total failure in GK and said “IT’S OK…NO ONE IS PERFECT” 😉 now at this point I started feeling nervous. now he started asking me questions related to science about density, Archimedes’s Principle and few questions that involved calculations. Since i was nervous i was able to answer only a few of them. At last, he asked about my previous attempts including the reason why i failed in previous attempts. he also asked about the competitive exams i gave and reasons of failure. i was able to satisfy him with my answers. now it has been 30 minutes of my interview, he then said “OK WE ARE DONE WITH THE INTERVIEW, YOU MAY LEAVE”. I took a breath of relief. I was not satisfied with my answers that much.

IMPORTANT POINTS:
1)In psychology tests naturally express yourself. No need to be fake or writing things told by coaching institutes and all.
2)In WAT,SRT write short sentences. Don’t use too much of grammar. Your answers should be understood by the reader. Think tactfully, solve tactfully.
3) In Self Description write absolutely truth! Because they will ultimately find it whether you are writing truth or lie.

DAY 3 and DAY 4- GTO
For me this is the best part of SSB! Here you have to stay outdoors and enjoy speaking and do some physical and mental work. In GD, Lecturette be to the point, don’t repeat words which are already spoken. Listen to others point and speak yours too. If you have some facts and figures then this is the place you can flaunt them off! In GPE, again, think tactfully and solve the problems. In Group obstacle race motivate everyone, do well, don’t show off small injuries. Remember it is a group task, not your personal task. So be with the group.
In PGT,CT,HGT,FGT you just need to have a sharp mind and tactful approach to solve the problem.
It would be beneficial for you if you do some physical exercises regularly before going for the SSB.

DAY 5- CONFERENCE
YES! THIS IS THE DAY WHICH CAN CHANGE LIFE OF SOMEONE!
This was the thought which came into my mind before the conference.
During my conference they asked me some routine questions and “WHY SHOULD WE RECOMMEND YOU?” so be prepared to answer this question.
My conference went for around 10 minutes.
Now it was the RESULT time!!
Heartbeats went faster and faster as we were approaching to hear the results. Getting recommended was my biggest dream. So I wished if I got recommended.
And yes! Chest No 15 I shouted “AMAN PANDEY sir!”
2 of us were recommended from 17. I was very happy as my dream had come true. I thanked god and called my parents and friend to give them one more reason to be proud of me!

Hello everyone I am Bhaskar Choubey feel pleasure to share my SSB experience on this platform & my pursuit to join the Indian army.

My journey started 5 years ago when I first appeared before SSB for NDA entry, I was so excited and took coaching and that has affected me badly it kept a mentally block on me and I was conference out. This was like a shock to me.

But the soldier attitude of never giving up against any odd. Help me to keep fighting. After graduation I gave CDS and cleared it but again couldn’t clear SSB. This keep on continuing going SSB but not getting recommended but I kept learning from my mistakes in SSB. The main factor lacking in me was confidence and it took 5 yrs. to get over it. People around me start doubting me whether I can ever be recommended or not, also start suggesting other options that I have qualified gate so start PhD,etc.

But I was focused on my destination and finally in 8th attempt for CDS (IMA-141) from 17 SSB Bangalore on 23rd mar 2016 I got recommended,

Again on 02nd may 2016 I got recommended from 34 SSB Allahabad for AEC-123.

PPDT

In PPDT, I feel the most important aspect is to observe the picture correctly i.e. Surroundings, non-living things etc. because it help in correct perception & selecting correct theme.

Coming to discussion test what matters is:-

  • Relevance of the Story & Picture.
  • Self-confidence.
  • Power of expression.

Psychological test

This is the most important test and almost all candidates’ feels that he is only lacking in psychological test. The most important thing is that this test don’t require coming with preconceived ideas but it doesn’t mean one shouldn’t practice. Practice shows your sincerity toward the Job. Practice helps to complete test in required time frame.

In TAT the story should be a problem solving, short stories solving day to day life problems or having some innovative ideas. Don’t write adjective/qualities in your stories these qualities should come from your hero’s actions.

WAT: – Practice before going to SSB of completing all in time, write in very short and simple language. Try to complete all. I did 60 WAT.

SRT:- Write only actions no need to form sentences use commas. I completed 54 SRT.

Self-Description:- It’s all about knowing yourself, Self-introspection the better you know about yourself the better you will do in SD & in all psychological tests.

INTERVIEW

My Interview was taken by Maj Gen (commandant of Bangalore SSB). It went for 1hr.

Interview is mostly about self-awareness, reasoning ability, ability to think under stress & Confidence.

IO generally ask question based on PIQ about your family, friends and teachers. Always put your positive aspects to IO and never bluff.

GTO

It’s a task not a test so just go and enjoy doing this task. It’s a group task so the moto should be to win for the group not as an individual.

In GD it’s not only about speaking it’s also important to listen to others views and never so frustration on your face if not getting chance to speak.

I enjoyed doing all task in GTO. In Individual obstacles, I did 15 obstacles.

RESULT

My heart was pounding and pulse rate was above 100/min. When my chest number was announced 16, I didn’t believe for a while everyone started clapping and eyes were full of tears.

And yes finally I can say “yes I have it in me”.
