Military Intelligence, in coordination with Daulatabad police, arrested a 48-year-old woman for allegedly impersonating an Indian Army officer and misleading citizens by attending public functions in uniform.
The accused has been identified as Ruchika Jain, a resident of Dharampur in the city. She was nabbed on Thursday morning following a raid at her residence. Police officials said Jain regularly dressed in a Captainโs rank uniform and introduced herself as a retired Army officer at various social and cultural programmes, thereby misleading people and gaining recognition.
Huge Cache of Uniforms and Accessories Seized
During the raid, officials seized a large collection of military uniforms and accessories. The items included a full set of combat uniforms with Captainโs stars, Para Special Forces insignia, a nameplate marked โRuchika Jain,โ two ceremonial officer dresses adorned with medals and ribbons, combat shoes, belts, gloves, face masks, Army socks, and even a war memorial photograph.
Investigators also recovered a fake identity card of a private security agency featuring her picture in Army uniform, along with trophies inscribed โCaptain Ruchika Jainโ and mementos from local organisations showcasing her in military attire.
Past Connections to Security Services
Police commissioner Pravin Pawar, citing the preliminary probe, said Jain admitted during questioning that she had worked as a security guard in Delhi in 2001, where she came into contact with retired Army officers.
โFascinated by the military, she allegedly purchased fabric and accessories in 2017 to stitch her own uniforms. Since then, she has been attending events, including at a private academy, introducing herself as a Captain and even guiding students under the pretext of being a retired officer,โ CP Pawar revealed.
Booked Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Authorities said the impersonation came to light after Military Intelligence received specific inputs, leading to the raid and arrest. Jain has now been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for impersonating a public servant.
Police sources confirmed that she has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to determine whether she benefitted financially or otherwise by posing as a retired Army officer.
