In a solemn reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Manipur, Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap of the Assam Rifles made the ultimate sacrifice during an ambush on September 19, 2025. The incident occurred near Nambol Sabal Leikai in Bishnupur district, where insurgents targeted a convoy returning from a medical relief camp, resulting in the deaths of two personnel and injuries to five others.

Rifleman Kashyap, hailing from Bastar in Chhattisgarh, was serving with the 33 Assam Rifles unit at the time of the attack. His convoy, traveling in a Tata 407 vehicle from Patsoi to Nambol, came under heavy fire from suspected terrorists, leading to an intense exchange that claimed his life along with that of Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung. The injured soldiers were promptly evacuated to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for treatment.

In response to the ambush, Manipur Police have detained two suspects and seized a silver-blue van believed to have been used in the operation, recovered from Mutum Yangbi. Security forces have intensified operations in the surrounding areas, including Shantipur and Ishok, to apprehend those responsible.

The Indian Army’s Central Command described the event as a testament to the unyielding courage of its personnel, emphasizing that such sacrifices underscore the daily risks faced in safeguarding the nation. Similar honors were extended in Manipur, reflecting national gratitude for his devotion to duty.

This incident marks a continuation of heightened tensions in the region, with reports indicating it as part of a series of recent attacks on security forces. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure stability and justice for the fallen heroes.
