In a special ceremony held today, Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command (SWAC), presented a prestigious Commendation Badge to Shri Anand Patel, IAS, Collector and District Magistrate of Kutch. The honour recognises Patel’s exemplary contribution to civil–military coordination during Operation Sindoor, one of India’s most significant air operations in recent years.

Operation Sindoor: India’s Swift and Decisive Response
Launched on 07 May 2025, Operation Sindoor was India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack in which Pakistan-backed militants killed 26 civilians. The Indian Air Force executed precision strikes on high-value terror targets across the border, eliminating operatives including Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudassir Ahmad — key figures linked to the IC-814 hijacking and the Pulwama attack.
Collector Patel’s Crucial Contribution
As Kutch emerged as a key operational hub, Collector Anand Patel ensured flawless coordination between the district administration and the IAF. His leadership in overseeing logistics, emergency mobilisation, and civil support systems proved vital to sustaining the tempo of operations along the western front. The commendation ceremony, held against the backdrop of the IAF crest, included a symbolic pinning of the badge and a group photograph with senior IAF officers.
Strategic Impact and Continued Preparedness
Operation Sindoor has shifted India’s deterrence posture, signalling a robust red line against cross-border terrorism. In the weeks following the operation, Pakistan launched an extensive misinformation campaign, which India countered through coordinated information warfare efforts.
The commendation of Shri Anand Patel not only honours his service but also underscores the indispensable role of civil–military synergy in safeguarding national security.
