In a significant boost to India’s indigenisation and military automation efforts, Major Rajprasad RS of the Corps of Engineers (7 Engineer Regiment) has developed an advanced Multi Utility Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) named “Sapperscout Ver 2.0.” This marks the 12th innovation by the officer, with four of his earlier systems already inducted into the Indian Army over the past two years.
According to defence officials, Sapperscout Ver 2.0 is the first fully in-house UGV in India designed for multi-role operational deployment. The platform offers a wide spectrum of capabilities, including mine detection, payload carriage, reconnaissance and surveillance, vehicle-based mine scattering, and casualty evacuation. Its modular design also allows the integration of various payloads such as weapon systems and Counter-UAS (C-UAS) equipment.
The UGV features a 6-wheeled independent drive system with articulated suspension, enabling seamless movement across diverse and rugged terrain. Equipped with environmental sensing and obstacle detection technologies, Sapperscout Ver 2.0 enhances safe and autonomous mobility during complex missions.
The innovation underscores the growing contribution of Indian Army personnel to defence technology development and reflects the military’s broader focus on indigenous, soldier-driven solutions for future battlefield needs.
