Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, Army Commander Northern Command, visited formations and units deployed in North Kashmir along the Line of Control (LoC) as well as in the hinterland to review the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness.
During the visit, commanders on ground briefed the Army Commander on the counter-infiltration grid, surveillance posture, and security measures being undertaken to dominate the operational space in both forward areas and the hinterland. Discussions focused on maintaining a robust defensive posture and ensuring quick, calibrated responses to emerging threats.

Lt Gen Sharma emphasised the critical importance of a strong and proactive intelligence grid, underlining the need for close coordination with sister agencies to enable timely, accurate, and effective counter-terror and counter-infiltration operations. He commended the troops for their professionalism, vigilance, and sustained efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
As part of his visit, the Army Commander also visited the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) at Gulmarg, where he reviewed ongoing training activities. He assessed the institutionโs focus on enhancing operational skills through the integration of modern technology, innovation, and updated training methodologies tailored for high-altitude and extreme-weather warfare.

Lt Gen Sharma lauded HAWS for its pivotal role in preparing soldiers and leaders for operations in some of the most challenging terrains in the world. He stressed the need to continuously evolve training practices to keep pace with emerging technologies and the changing character of warfare.
The visit reaffirmed Northern Commandโs commitment to maintaining a high state of operational readiness, strengthening intelligence-led operations, and ensuring that troops remain well-trained, adaptive, and prepared to meet current and future security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir.
