General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), recently visited the College of Defence Management (CDM), Secunderabad, where he addressed participants of the 21st Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC-21). The visit formed part of the Indian Army’s continued engagement with premier military education institutions responsible for shaping future strategic leaders of the armed forces.
During his address, General Dwivedi highlighted the Indian Army’s ongoing transformation roadmap, which aims to prepare the force for the evolving nature of modern warfare. He emphasised the growing importance of Multi-Domain Operations, where military forces must operate seamlessly across land, air, sea, cyber, and space domains to maintain a strategic advantage on the battlefield.

The COAS stressed that the complexity of future conflicts demands adaptive and forward-thinking leadership capable of making quick, informed decisions in highly dynamic operational environments. He encouraged the officers undergoing the course to continuously enhance their strategic understanding, professional competence, and leadership skills to effectively tackle emerging security challenges.

General Dwivedi also appreciated the College of Defence Management for its significant role in nurturing strategic thinkers and senior leaders within the Indian Armed Forces. The institution plays a key role in imparting advanced knowledge in defence management, operational planning, logistics, and resource optimisation, thereby strengthening the overall decision-making capability of the military leadership.
Emphasising the importance of tri-service synergy, the COAS noted that institutions like CDM help foster closer cooperation and integration between the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, which is essential for modern joint operations.

During the visit, General Dwivedi also commended selected personnel for their exemplary service, acknowledging their dedication and contributions toward strengthening professional excellence within the armed forces.
The interaction with course participants reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to building future-ready military leaders capable of navigating the complexities of modern warfare and ensuring the nation’s security in an increasingly challenging strategic environment.
