Jhunjhunu’s Nayak Madan Singh Gurjar Dies in J&K; Leave Was Cancelled Due to ‘Operation Sindoor’

Nayak Madan Singh Gurjar’s mortal remains to reach his native village today; leave was cut short amid India–Pakistan tensions.

In a tragic development that has cast a pall of grief over Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, Nayak Madan Singh Gurjar of the Indian Army passed away due to sudden cardiac arrest while on duty in the high-tension Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The 38-year-old soldier was a native of Baserda village in the Khetri subdivision and was serving with the 20 Grenadiers regiment. His death comes at a time of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, during the ongoing military operation codenamed ‘Operation Sindoor’.

Madan Singh had returned to his village on leave recently and was spending time with his family when orders came calling him back to duty on April 30, amid rising hostilities along the border. Like many others deployed in sensitive zones, his leave was abruptly cancelled. Despite the emotional toll of leaving his family behind, he dutifully reported back to his post, never imagining it would be for the last time.

According to sources, his death was due to cardiac arrest, a condition often exacerbated by the extreme weather and high-stress environment in the forward areas of Jammu and Kashmir. The news of his passing has not yet been officially communicated to his immediate family to prevent sudden trauma. Only a few senior villagers and army officials are currently aware, as quiet preparations are being made for his final rites.

His mortal remains will arrive in Delhi by air from Jammu at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. From there, the Indian Army and district authorities will transport the body by road to Baserda village, accompanied by a ceremonial Tricolour procession from the Haryana border. Villagers and officials are preparing to receive the fallen hero with full military honors, and his final journey will be marked by patriotic fervor and deep respect.

Nayak Madan Singh hailed from a proud military family. His elder brother, Subedar Hansraj Gurjar, is currently posted with the 5 Grenadiers regiment in Assam. His younger brother, Captain Singh, works in the Ordnance Factory. His family includes his father Malaram Gurjar, mother Ghoghdi Devi, wife and Veerangana Anita Devi, and his son Prince Gurjar, who is studying in class seven.

The village of Baserda is known for its strong tradition of military service, and Madan Singh’s sacrifice is being seen as another chapter in its long history of dedication to the nation. Local leaders and ex-servicemen’s groups have expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling on the government to provide all possible support to the bereaved family and to ensure their son’s sacrifice is recognized at the highest levels.

Residents of Baserda and surrounding areas are expected to gather in large numbers to pay their last respects. The district administration has coordinated with the Indian Army to ensure a smooth and dignified farewell, with arrangements in place for a gun salute and traditional rites.

Madan Singh’s death during a period of escalating border tensions highlights the immense pressures and uncertainties faced by soldiers even outside of active combat. As the Indo-Pak conflict continues to develop, stories like his serve as a sobering reminder of the personal cost of national security.

His life, marked by quiet discipline, love for the nation, and deep commitment to duty, now becomes a symbol of the courage and sacrifice that define India’s armed forces. The people of Baserda, and indeed the entire nation, will remember Nayak Madan Singh Gurjar as a true son of the soil, who served until his final breath.
