Tips to excel in GD of SSB

Tips to excel in GD of SSB

GD is a very common process in any selection process as it is believed that it has the capacity to judge many things at one instance and it can help in testing many candidates simultaneously. But GD’s at SSB are bit different because along with certain qualities they are looking for few competencies that should be present in an aspirant. Also two GD’s are conducted in GTO the very first day and there is also a GD in the screening stage so the importance of it cannot be neglected. I have already written the article on importance of body language and communication in GD, apart from that in this article we will be looking the expectations of the assessors from the aspirants so that that can be practiced and success can be achieved.

Tips to excel in GD of SSB

The following should be practiced:

  • Assessors are more interested in qualities, though the effect of knowledge and data cannot be neglected. So regular reading and practicing can help I n this regard.
  • Logical reasoning and supplementation of it with useful example is liked by all as it helps in strong holding of your point.
  • Confidence has always been the key to success, so see that whatever is presented, it is done with full confidence.
  • There is nothing like that I will always speak for the topic or against it. Please understand the difference between debate, extempore and a GD. Here things are limited to expressing of views only.
Tips to excel in GD of SSB
  • Body language is positive creates a altogether different level of awareness towards the other members of the group and they are always interested in listening.
  • Being a god listener is always a sign of a good member of a group.
  • Being a member of group your responsibility is to coordinate with the group and not to create a fish market. Even if others are contributing to create a fish market you have to emerge as a leader to get out of that situation and to facilitate proper discussion.
  • Eye contact should be maintained with the group members only and don’t try to show off by speaking more. Balance the content with the knowledge and coordination.
If GD is properly handled then the selection on the very first day is ensured and the GTO is also recognising your talent as the first impression will be super. Body language in such an exercise is very important and I How to handle fish market would be dealt in a separate article. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for olq’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve queries and clear doubts which are more often myths that are present in the mind and that can severely degrade the performance.

Important SSB Interview Questions Could Be Asked

1

SSB is interview is a personality assessment tool that needs a altogether different set of preparation. It might have twenty per cent questions related to the latest happenings or related to the technical or related to education. But rest of the interview is related to your personality so beware of preparing in the same mode. It needs of reviewing of your life as a school kid, then a matured college boy/ girl, a responsible son or daughter for the family, and more about your self being. The interview as such needs no preparation from some book but needs a lot of time to introspect your life through a prepared mode of questionnaire. I have seen people struggling for what to prepare and how to prepare. You should know that there should be perfect interference in your personality as you write it on sheets through various rounds and what you actually are. All three rounds designed at SSB are just to test personality traits in the form of qualities that they are looking for.

spot_img

So be ready to portray them only as I have heard people ribbing after rejection that they have written good stories with good vocabulary usage or sometimes aspirant claim that they spoke a lot in GD and wrote story filling all the provide pages. Now please understand at this moment that it’s not a English writing exam where how much you write or what words of vocabulary you use would be weighed. It’s a place where resemblance of perfect personality is seemed. Once you start understanding this difference then you are ready for SSB. As far as preparation for PI is considered the following areas can be prepared beforehand:

Important SSB Interview Questions

  • About your family and their member’s study.
  • About you education, town and place of residence
  • Types of friends you have.
  • How you spend time with family members.
  • School life, college life, and relations with teachers..
  • School life, college life, and relations with teachers.
  • Time spent for recreation/games/sports.
  • Spending and saving pattern.
  • Strength and weakness
  • Work done in office, colleagues bonding, relation with boss for working people.

Apart from all these you should be well versed with your personality also, as you are the one who knows best about it. See my other articles for important question on PI and how to clear screening rounds.

Success Mantra for Sure Shot Selection at SSB

1
Success Mantra for Sure Shot Selection at SSB

“There is no hope in the dark I see… but only in the light that reveals it to me!! “ ~~ Unknown. The Service selection board has stringent parameters that test the candidate and declare them fit for the defence services. These selections are purely based on the availability of officer like qualities (OLQ’s) in the candidate and nothing more than that.

Success Mantra for Sure Shot Selection at SSB

Many aspirants who come to join my mentorship program ask me some of the doubts which I would clear now.
  1. English should be good while going to SSB? I would like to say that though English is not the necessary language to speak in and you will be provided with the option of speaking in Hindi, but English being the common language that could be understood by all as people come from all places in India. So in greater interest English should be used when in groups or performing group activities.
  2. I will go without preparation as my friends say that it’s the best way to perform? No doubt that self-introspection is the best thing to prepare and do well in SSB and the person having proper understanding of the process should clearly do it but only when you know what to analyse and what to improve. When everyone now days being proactive prepares well and come, one should not wait till the last moment for preparation. Also one point to remember is that always prefer assessment under the expert who can guide you one to one and take care of your personality individually.
Success Mantra for Sure Shot Selection at SSB
  3. Psychology and PI are best learn under such situations where your personality is analysed properly and then only the assessment techniques are told as remember, some answer good for a particular persona can be wrong for you depending on the personality types, hence never try to follow the readymade answers in this regard. They might or might not suit your personality.
  4. Don’t wait for the last moment for the admit card or call letter and then start working on your personality. Even if you plan to take help of an assessor you should take well in advance as personality changes take time to happen and if things are done at the end moment the reflections might not be possible.
  5. Learn as to what it needed to be delivered in the tests that would be conducted over you rather than learning the answers as they might not fit your personality. So initially try to understand yourself and if unable to do so take help of experts only to understand what you really are.
  6. Self-introspection is the tool to get sure shot success as it makes you aware about what OLQ you have and what the weak areas are. If proper preparation is started ion time it’s really very easy to improve if proper introspection is done and nothing is missed.
If you have any other myth and want to clarify or still you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for olq’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve queries and clear doubts which are more often myths. Remember SSB is just about revealing your personality truly and I believe this is the easiest job one can do.

Failing at SSB Interview, Keep Trying

Failing at SSB Interview, Keep Trying

SSB is not an ordinary exam that you read some specified books and you can clear it. It clearly needs clear frame of mind, well groomed personality and the specific set of qualities that defence people are looking for. Hence it’s a common myth that people feel sad after not getting selected when they themselves know that they went without preparation or say without right guidance.  Many mentees of mine have been asking me this query that what do they look for and my simple one liner answer is that they only look for 15 OLQ’s so if you have it no one can stop you from becoming officer. The immediate reaction comes that whether these qualities are born with the personality or they can be inculcated. See it’s very clear that not all personalities are alike and some might have but research has shown that majority of people develop qualities after birth and it predominantly is developed based on the environment you live, conditions of life and based on the behaviour of people around you.

So it’s very clear that people don’t fail knowingly at that place.
Wearing uniform and having stars on the shoulder is dream of millions but starts shower their blessing on those who work in right direction. People cry to me that they are not good in academics or sports or they have not done many things in life, so I tell them that what’s the use of crying for the past when you cannot improve it now. I provide regular counselling to people who share their problems with me and I have realised in sessions that the problem is very basic that people don’t find right information and sometimes get deflected in wrong direction. Also people ask for readymade stories and sentences but please be aware that you need to reflect your personality and not someone else personality at SSB. Tjhis has always been a major cause of rejection at SSB.
“The path never moves ahead, it’s the human being that traverses it and reaches the destination”~~Karan Raghav .

Failing at SSB Interview, Keep Trying
Karan is my friend who said it rightly that you have to trace your path and work in right direction, there might be many path in front of you that will take you in various directions. So even if you fail don’t feel bad and turn that negativity into a positive feeling that you still need to improve a lot and that’s why you could not get recommended. Our officers are great and the selection methods are also foolproof that’s why assessors reject people with flaw. Identify that flaw using self-introspection and work on your personality.
Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for olq’s  through various tools or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected]or add me on Fb and drop in a message. Recommendation is the outcome of the perfect personality you portray at SSB and nothing more. So be yourself and do well.

How to Perform Well in RAPID FIRE Rounds of Personal Interview at SSB

0

Interview would be the most important round in any entrance or selection exam where you have to deal with different variety of questions. But interview in our SSB is the easiest test that has been created. You just need to revisit your own life and important events of life. Interview is primarily personality based and you should know the art to drive interview as per your pace. I have been a mentor and a counsellor for defence aspirants from last five years and I can easily see that people are afraid of SSB. I cannot understand why aspirants have this feeling. I accept that Interviews go long for about 30minute to about an hour or even more, the process at SSB if fool proof and it’s a long way of assessment to select the best of the best. But you should be fully prepared and should analyse your personality through self-introspection first. Once you are aware of the fact that you have some OLQ’s and some weak areas start working on them and then only go and attend SSB.

Personality changes cannot be taught in two weeks, first full analysis is done and then personality changes are suggested which takes times. So I would request aspirants to start a bit early and don’t wait for the last moment. The following are few tips to perform well in Rapid fire rounds of PI:

  • For rapid fire you have to be patient enough to hear the interviewer and don’t just rush to answer the questions. Rapid fire rounds test many qualities of the aspirant all together so behave in a proper manner.
  • Once the interviewer stops then start answering. Don’t mistake to cut the interviewer and start answering in between. Also follow the sequence in which the questions are asked.
  • There is always a link and a sequence in which the questions are asked to try to learn and guess that sequence rather than cramming the questions itself, as that might distract you and you will get nervous.
  • In the mocks that I have with my mentee’s I ensure that this is well practiced and every time a new set of interview question is being asked so as to make them ready for all types of situations. Similarly I will request all aspirants to practice well in time.
  • Also there should be proper synch between your personality, psychology , personal interview and GTO for recommendation, then only one personality is projected. Keep this in mind and work accordingly.
rapid fire questions in ssb interview
Other categories of interview will be covered in other articles. Still If you have any confusion or you still feel the need to take individual assessment of personality for OLQ’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected]or add me on Fb and drop in a message. Don’t believe in myths that you hear from different sources, they can degrade your performance. Work on your personality and clear in one go. Dreams can be converted into reality if right guidance is available. Go and achieve it.

Success Factors for Story Writing in PPDT

0
PPDT story writing

SSB is in itself a mystery for everyone as people are amazed how one can judge personality simply by making people write stories, sentences or something about their own life or say how can assessors judge personality by making them play small games on the ground. But it’s the reality of that place and that what had been happening from decades. No mistake, no error, this method has only produce many officers that had been serving our country rightly and the exact way it is needed. You are also approaching towards one of the dream job and yes you should be ready to improve your personality.

Many people ask me in query that they were unable to clear screening round, but they performed well. On enquiring I came to know they have been following some readymade material which hindered them from presenting their own personality. Rather, they presented some personality that they are unaware of. This happens with many and people have been doing it unknowingly. They are surrounded by myths and they really don’t know what they are projecting in exam.

Here I provide some information as to what assessors expect in PPDT and how you should go for preparation:

  • The best and simple way to start preparation for SSB is to analyse yourself through a powerful technique of self-introspection. Until and unless you don’t know yourself how will you portray that in different forms? There are various tools to do so that facilitate introspection and I have also designed many that I administer during my mentorship program.  I believe that personality of every individual is different and hence I take it one to one. You can also start introspecting yourself to realise what powers you have. I have written many blogs on this site for self-introspection needs, doings etc. You can refer them for further details.

  • The result of introspection is your qualities and weak areas. Once you are aware of all this then you know the areas you are supposed to work and the areas that you need to project.
  • Please remember that you should not project yourself as a perfect human being because then you are not made for defence. Perfect people are elite and belong to some other category.
  • Also in PPDT story that projects you, individual narration is altogether more important that the GD. More than half battle is won by doing well till here. Rest portray good performance in GD as mentioned by me in my other articles and it’s really easy to get screen in.

Body language in such an exercise is very important and I would deal it in a separate article. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for olq’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve queries and clear doubts of my future leaders who are getting ready to serve my motherland. Believe me SSB is not an exam where cramming, concepts, and material wins, here representing you in appropriate style provides winning moment. Get ready for that!

Developing Social Quotient for SSB Interview

4

There is a popular saying that “Man Is a Social Animal”. We humans are bounded by the norms and traditions of the society in which we live. Every human being must be adept in dealing with various kinds of people in order to lead a purposeful and prosperous life. Though it seems to be an easy task, developing social quotient requires lots of prudence.

Have you ever wondered how certain kinds of people befriend others easily?
How certain people get their work done swiftly?
Why certain people are liked by all?

On the contrary why certain people are execrated by many?
Why certain individuals annoy frequently?
Why no one likes certain individual’s company?

The answer to all of these questions lies in their SOCIAL QUOTEINT. People having high social quotient will have it very easy in their life to deal with others while people having a shallow social quotient will find themselves jeopardized in situations involving human relationships.
In this post we will discuss the ways to develop social quotient. People having high social quotient will more often than not have no difficulty in clearing GTO (Group Tasks) tasks in the SSB interview. Moreover, in the defense services an officer has so many men as his subordinates. Therefore, a high social quotient becomes an inextricable quality for an officer in the armed forces.

  1. BE AN EXTROVERT: An extrovert is a person who is affable, vivacious and congenial. He likes to be surrounded by people. He is outgoing and gets charged up by seeing people around him. Hence, to inculcate this quality one has to be expressive enough with his friends and family. One has to get out of the stigma of having so many people around him. They are people just like you and me and hence, one should slowly but steadily become more expressive and less apprehensive while conversing with others. Remember, being mere talkative will not guarantee you high social quotient; one must speak sense and win the confidence of others.

  2. BE LIVELY IN ADVERSE SITUATIONS: Every individual has to deal with his share of problems in his life. Instead of quibbling about your problems, take them head on. One gentleman has rightly said “, if your problem has a solution, why worry and if your problem doesn’t have a solution, why worry”. So in direct words, becoming depressed at the advent of adversities will make only matters worse. Be positive and try the best you can to quell the problem.
  3. GIVE RESPECT TAKE RESPECT: This is one of the most important factors governing the social quotient of individuals. Every human being is a special creation of god. You should not regard anyone as inferior to you and spurn his view and opinions. You should deal with people the way you want to be dealt by them.
  4. HAVE GOOD WRITTEN AND ORAL EXPRESSION: Everybody has a set of thoughts in his mind. All that matters is the way in which you express those thoughts. Your tongue is a gigantic weapon in your arsenal; it can make or break situations. You should be perspicuous in your opinions and expressions. Your speech must have a resounding impact on the listener. Then only you will be able to convince him to get your work done. At the same time your written expression also matters. You will be regarded with high respect if you are able to express your views with brevity on a piece of paper.
  5. HAVE A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOUR: Needless to say; people enjoy the company of individuals who are adept at cracking jokes. Laughing is one of the best exercises which refreshes you mind and body. If you possess the art of making others laugh, you will attract people like a magnet. I am not advising you to become a comedian but you can start seeing the lighter side of any situation and make the matters less complicated.
  6. BE ACCEPTABLE AS A LEADER: When you are in a group, it is imperative that there is an individual who leads the group. To become an apt leader you must take cognizance of the needs of your people and take the best decision possible. You should not show bias towards any individual. Also, you must not bog down during testing times. If you stand by your team members they will also stand by you.

This was it in today’s article about social quotient; I hope this article has helped in getting clarity about the issue discussed.
