Reasons Of Getting Rejected At Conference Round In SSB – Part1

0
SSB-Conference

There is always the dilemma among the aspirants as to why they get rejected during the first stage of screening. I have dealt that separately in the article. Those who qualify stay there for our more days to show their potential of being the officers. They are assessed for OLQ’s through three rounds i.e. Psychology, GTO and PI. Major rejection happens at this stage also and the people who qualify during the conference round in ssb get recommended. Everyone looks for this stage and getting recommended but the aspirants still have the dilemma of why they were rejected when they performed well. Let me tell you that assessors are well qualified to select people with OLQ’s and they would not mistake. People who got conference out have been writing the following myths to me:

  • I spoke in good English while others did not. I was rejected while others were selected.
  • My conference went long and it took a lot of time for me to call before conference still I was rejected.
  • People speaking in Hindi and English were selected.
  • I completed everything in psych and impressed the interviewer still I was rejected… and many moreSSB-Conference

You will hear people saying this, but believe me there is nothing wrong in getting rejected. People see the flaws while they miss on what went wrong and the right reasons of rejection. If you are rejected during conference the following can one of the reasons:

  • Misinterpretation of personality because of misguidance because of which the right personality might not have evolved.
  • There could be a mismatch in the thinking of the three assessors and you might be rejected. All the three assessors should recommend a persona for being recommended by the board.
  • Could not be able to reveal the required degree and number of officer of qualities which are essentially needed for selection.

How it could be improved and what should be done is again really very important. There is a specific process of working and improving, and then only effective preparation and performance could be there. It’s a detailed approach that goes in for preparation of SSB. AS we all know that SSB is all about psychology and personality. So preparation should be done accordingly without worrying about the myths as they can really hamper your results. I would cover the preparation methodology in the second part of this series. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for olq’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve. Don’t feel dejected and loose hope of leaving your dream unturned. Everything can be achieved in life and nothing is impossible in this world. Dedicated efforts in right direction will definitely lead to success. So keep reading.

The Life Of The Indian Army Soldiers Along The Line of Control

3

On a pitch-black August night, nine battle-ready Indian army soldiers silently take up positions at the entrance of a forbiddingly steep Himalayan ravine. Weapons primed, the men, in camouflaged combat fatigues and faces painted to merge with the dense undergrowth, use handheld thermal imagers to scour the moonless night for intruders. A rustling in the distance provokes a fusillade of gunfire for several minutes, until Subedar Gulsher Khan, 49, signals his men to stop. “It was only a panther,” he explains later, for once relieved that the prowler got away. “A Pakistani would find his grave right here on the Line of Control (LoC),” the veteran troop leader says grimly.

Soldiers patrolling the 772-km LoC between Pakistan and India in Jammu and Kashmir are evidently on edge. The firing by Khan and his trigger-happy troopers on the night of August 28 a short distance from Jogi, their post in the Teetwal sector, 230-km northwest of Srinagar, drew an instant response from Pakistani positions 400 m away. Intermittent firing, not particularly targeting each other but more to mark a wakeful presence, continued until daybreak.

This is part of a seemingly unstoppable escalation in violence that began on January 8 with the beheading of two Indian jawans-Lance Naik Hemraj and Lance Naik Sudhakar Naik-in Jammu’s Mendhar sector. Till September 29, when Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and Nawaz Sharif, in New York, tried to resolve the impasse on the loc, there have been nearly 150 skirmishes resulting in casualties on both sides, including 26 Indian soldiers.Indian army soldiers

Life under constant threat in the most hostile terrain on India’s frontier is clearly taking its toll on men of the Indian Army’s celebrated Richhmar Battalion, deployed in the Tangdhar area on precipitous ridges at altitudes between 7,500 and 9,500 ft. “I’ve done this at least once, sometimes twice, every other day, for the last two years,” Naik Anil Kumar, 32, says, as he negotiates an impossibly inclined and deeply rutted road in his 4wd Gypsy. Climbing sharply for over 3,000 ft, the 22-km dirt track stops nearly 500 ft below the battalion’s field headquarters at Jogi.

Gulsher Khan’s ambush party traverses many kilometres along the tightest, often non-existent, trails in pitch dark to get back to Jogi. “Pakistanis and panthers aren’t the only dangers here,” says Rakesh Kumar. The 28-year-old sepoy, who took a 200 ft tumble after a wrong step on the way home, is nursing a deeply-gashed shin and multiple bruises on his torso. “I managed to grab some bushes, otherwise I’d be on my way home to Mathura in a dibba (box),” he grins sheepishly. Kumar was fortunate he did not trigger one of the thousands of anti-personnel mines spread across the mountainsides.

Back at the post, the boys attend a mandatory debriefing session before they can indulge in the luxury of a brief wash to rid themselves of sweat and face-paint. Water, pumped from a mountain spring at the base of the 9,000-ft-high Karachi Tip, a Pakistani post, is scarce. “If you’re lucky you’ll find the time and a bucket of lukewarm water for a bath every fifth day,” says Lance Naik Jabeer Ali. He doesn’t mind; he’s used to worse water shortages in his village Bhaaru in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district.

Grenadier Vir Bahadur, 20, joined the paltan (battalion) this January. He has spent the past eight months in a subterranean bunker manning a medium machine gun with its sights set on Pakistani posts on the other side of a deep gorge cut by a turbulent tributary of the Neelum river as it briefly fords the loc into India near Pakistan’s Nausheri village. Still shy of a decent stubble on his chin, the youngster shares the soggy underground with a million millipedes. The insects infest every inch of the 400 m-long maze of tunnels that connect the battalion’s operations room with a profusion of steel-reinforced pillboxes. One has to crouch really low, but the pain is well worth it as Pakistanis can’t see you.

Protected from enemy eyes by the mountain they hold, the men can stand down and occasionally relax-a breakfast of hot poories with bhaji or chhole, followed by an intense standoff on the carrom board. The manoranjan kaksh (recreation room) at Jogi may be basic but they love it-a flat screen TV with a cable connection and a set of ludo and snakes & ladders. The somewhat-limited selection of reading material includes dog-eared titles of Dhanwaan kaise bane, Gun ka faisla, and Tiranga phaerayenge Pakistan mein.

“This is luxury,” says Naik Subhash, 35, who spent several months with a platoon at Kela, a forward post at 9,200 ft that gets snowed under and cut off for more than four months every winter. An arduous, six-hour climb from Jogi, the post is a similar maze of steel-covered trenches and bunkers, from which soldiers never stick their head over ground level. Like two other Richhmar Battalion positions, Veera and Roopa, the post is less than 50 m from Karachi Tip and Pak Neck, manned by one of the Pakistan Army’s Mujahid Battalions.

When his ailing father passed away last winter, it took three days to convey the news to Subedar Mahesh Kumar, then in command of the platoon at Kela. “There were no means of extricating him, other than a death-defying climb down the snow-covered ridge,” battalion commander Colonel Vivek Gupta, 39, recalls. “Mahesh chose to stay back,” he says.

Within shouting distance of each other, mocking verbal exchanges are routine: “Aao dost chai peeyenge (Come and have tea, friend),” Pakistani soldiers try to draw out the Indians, who invariably respond with an offer of “real tea all the way from Bangladesh”. The seemingly friendly banter quickly regresses into angry exchanges of obscenities or long, silent interludes. “Those chaps (Pakistani soldiers) speak in an unfamiliar Punjabi dialect that our boys never fully understand,” says Naik Subhash.

Four of the fiercest Gaddi (Himalayan Mastiff) dogs zealously stand guard besides their uniformed masters at the Jogi post. Musharraf, Chashmish, Panji and Sheroo, each capable of taking down an armed intruder, don’t miss a thing. The battalion’s fifth canine, Ganpat, who ambled over to a Pakistani post three months ago, was chased away by the rest when he returned three days later. The loathing across the loc is palpable and seems to transcend human boundaries.

SSB Lecturette: Iran Nuclear Deal And India

0
Iran Nuclear Deal And India

Iran and six major world powers- China, France, Russia, UK, US and Germany have reached a nuclear deal on 14th of July, 2015, capping more than a decade of on-off negotiations with an agreement that could potentially transform the Middle-East, and which Israel called an “Historic Surrender”. In this article, I’m going to write about the Iran’s nuclear deal and how will it affect India and Indo-Iranian partnership, which could be helpful during lecturette, in GK, Interview and current affairs.

The landmark nuclear deal between Iran and major world powers has enabled Tehran to restore normal trade with many countries. But before the deal was reached, and despite crippling sanctions, India was among a handful of countries doing billions of dollars of trade with Iran.

Under the deal, sanctions imposed by the US, EU and UN would be lifted in return for Iran agreeing long-term curbs on a nuclear programme that the west has suspected was aiming at creating a nuclear bomb. The lifting of sanctions will have a significant implications for New Delhi, which hopes to reinvigorate its economic and strategic developments with Tehran apart from having reduced oil prices in the international market. Iran Nuclear Deal And India

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will inspect Iran’s Uranium mines regularly and will have an unrestricted access to Iran’s nuclear reactor designs, details and other information. If the nuclear deal fails, the sanctions on Iran will be reimposed with greater effect. The nuclear deal also imposes threat on mid-eastern countries as it’s oil market will have a greater competition with their’s.

For Iran, the end of sanctions could bring a rapid economic boom by lifting restrictions that have drastically cut its oil exports and hurt its imports. The prospect of the deal has already helped push down the global oil prices because of the possibility that Iranian supply could return to the market.

How will the deal affect India?

  1. India’s finances will improve because of possible drop in oil prices; while the rupee may become less volatile even as the US Federal Reserve gears up to tighten monetary policy.
  2. Indian exporters will have to compete with Eastern European manufacturers who produce low-end products like spanners, hand tools and auto parts. Since the value of Euro has depreciated in the last few years, majorly due to Greek’s debt crisis, India will be facing stiff competition from European manufacturers.
  3. Many of the big Indian pharmaceutical and textile businesses were reluctant to deal with Iran because they were afraid of the sanctions. Now, they can deal with Iran freely and invest there. So, it will be a big boost for Indian exports creating new opportunities.
  4. In the absence of land route through Pakistan to Central Asia, a road and rail network via Chabahar port in southern Iran is important for India. It will open up a trade route to Central Asia and Afghanistan. The port will help India to send goods through road and rail networks to those countries. India didn’t have this kind of access in the past. This will enhance the strategic partnership of India and Iran.
  5. Iran is a big buyer of basmati rice, soymeal, sugar, barley and meat. Under sanctions, Iran paid a premium of upto 20% over the global prices to buy them from India. Indian food companies like McLeod Russel and Kohinoor Foods, that have businees in Iran, gained due to the sanctions.
  6. The deal increases imports by removing the EU’s restrictions on insurance for Iranian shipments. These restrictions had left refineries that processed Iranian oil without insurance cover and resulted in India’s imports falling below the level permitted by sanctions.
  7. Iran and India set up a bartering system whereby India would purchase Iranian oil with rupees and Iran would use these rupees to purchase goods from India. This provided a much-needed boost for Indian trade, increasing exports of basmati and soymeal significantly. The easing of sanctions could certainly derail this barter system and India could lose business to international competitors.
  8. As the international demand for Iranian oil rises, there will be less incentive for Iran to continue the oil-for-rupee agreement with India and favour countries who are willing to pay in US Dollars. Given the high rate of inflation in India and the low value of Indian rupee, the deal could benefit India by allowing it to import more oil at reduced rates.

I hope this article will help boost your GK and make things clear on the Iran Nuclear Deal. #SSBCrack

6 Tips To Crack CPSS Test Will Full Marks

1
cpss test

The CPSS test (formerly PABT) is conducted for those who want to become a pilot in the Indian armed forces. Anyone, irrespective of the service, has to undergo CPSS test to qualify for becoming a pilot in the Indian armed forces. The CPSS test is designed to check the candidate’s reflexive capabilities in response to external stimuli. In this test, the locomotive and sensory abilities of the candidates are put to examination; the tests are conducted to note the eye-ear-hand-feet coordination of the candidate.

CPSS test is conducted in three levels: Written Test, Light Control Test and Drum Test. The written test again consists of Apparatus Reading test and Plane Position Test.

In this article, I’m going to show the techniques and ways in which one can develop these skills to nail the CPSS test selection.

  1. Be a Good, Attentive Listener: Being a good and attentive listener is the most important quality for development of psychomotor skills. The instruments are explained in complete detail containing each and every point needed to qualify the test. Hence, the candidate should listen to the officer with an attentive mind and understand every detail that is given. Once, this is achieved, half the battle is won. This is useful in both Apparatus Reading Test and Plane Position Test in which candidates are supposed to read and understand the instruments on-board the aircraft.
  2. Play Computer Games: Everyone loves to play computer/mobile games and if you are a gamer, then bingo, you got this one. Research shows that people who play 14 hours of computer games continuously has shown a significant increase of upto 25% in decision making ability. I’m not asking you to play games for the full day, but, play games that challenge your brain. My personal favorite game for brain exercise is ‘Duet’. You can get it on Play Store. This is helpful in the Light Control Test in which you’re made to sit infront of a CRT monitor and asked to fly a plane (pun intended).
  3. Meditate and Exercise: The best way to make a good coordination within your body parts is to control your brain-the center of the body functions. Conquer this, and you would’ve conquered the coordination between your limbs. Do meditate two times daily for 20 mins. If not possible, meditating for 5-10 mins in the morning would be a good start. And yeah, do exercise for atleast 30 mins, daily to keep those muscles flexible and handy.cpss test
  4. Check on your diet: Eating food rich in fibre will help your brain get that extra energy in the long run. Also, try to limit the consumption of coffee, cokes and other caffiene related drinks. Get a good night’s sleep for atleast 6 hours. Drink water in regular intervals and limit intake of dietry supplements. For your vision, grab those carrots and take fish cod liver oil.
  5. Self-Introspection: As you all might’ve concluded from reading articles on ssbcrack.com that self-introspection is the key to success, it holds true here too. The assessor will observe only what you show to them. So, it’s a better practise to know well about yourself and show the best of your OLQs. It is never late to start. Do it now and be foucused! This is assessed in the written test. Maintain a diary and jot down your achievements of the day, be it any smaller or be it not make any significant difference. At the end of the day, you’ll be happy of it and it’ll motivate you.
  6. Mental Practise and Preparedness: This is very common in the making of an officer pilot. Military pilot should have presence of mind and should be capable to withstand mental and physical strains at the odd time. Be mentally prepared for what you’re opting for and it’s consequences. With the induction of the Fifth Generation fighter aircrafts, it had became much more demanding of the pilots to take the right decisions quickly to avoid any loss of aircraft or in worst scenario, life.

I hope these tips will make the best for developing your psychomotor skills and get the best pilot out of you. Are you up for it? #TouchTheSkyWithGlory #IAF

Recommended for SSC NT 102 From 14 SSB Allahabad In 3rd Attempt

0
Recommended 14 SSB Allahabad

“Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.” -Winston Churchill.

I remember last year at this time, I had written a similar article for SSBCrack about my experience at 14 SSB Allahabad, for the 100th NonTech course OTA. However, this time it is a bit different. I achieved success. This is the story of how I got recommended in my third attempt from the very SSB board that had rejected me last year. The key to success is based on doing things differently, not doing different things. In the month of December, I had decided to go to Olive Green Institute, Chandigarh as I was massively confused about SSB and my personality. The mentors at OG were instrumental I making me realise that I was just another confused boy of 21 who needed to get his act together. Hence, my journey had started. Aspirants, it is important for us to understand the meaning of those 15 OLQs and apply it to our lives rather than using them for a week and forgetting them. Col DJS Chahal had said, “Be a good human being, SSB will become the simplest thing to clear in life.” In February 23rd, I went to 1AFSB Dehradun where I was conference out again. It is when I realised, there was one puzzle that was missing. It was that I worried too much about the outcome of the SSB, as if, what will happen to me if I don’t clear it? Life is bigger than that, this was the major realization that I had. When the time to appear for the CDS 2 SSB came for SSC NT 102, I let myself relax, forget the past. God works in weird ways, I got into the same board as before- 14SSB. Reaching the railway station, I found around 67-68 odd candidates waiting (it was the primary batch).Recommended 14 SSB Allahabad

Day 1:Nothing major happened, just the documents were verified. We retired to our barracks chatting with each other. We were divided into two batches of around 32 and 36 into 14SSB and 34SSB.

Day 2: The screening test was held on this day. The OIR was simple as usual. PPDT was also pretty simple as the picture was clear. I wrote a nice story about a photography expedition and narrated it confidently. During the discussion, I was controlling the crowd, helping others speak and also add relevant points. I was screened in and given chest number 15. We had to fill in the PIQ form and other documents. Please fill in the PIQ form cautiously and honestly as this would highlight the person you are and will be assessed on the basis of this sheet of paper.

Day 3: The Psychological test is administered on this day. It is no doubt an important test as the psychologist is the only assessor who won’t meet you in person (except in the conference). Out of the two PIQs you will, one will go to the psychologist and hence it is important to write these tests in accordance to your PIQ form. Now for those who will write an honest PIQ form, their first response naturally becomes in sync with the form (if he/she is not confused about himself/herself). The blank story in TAT should be something that you have done in your life, that way it remains a natural story. The SRTs should again contain very natural reactions that you would do in that situation. E.g. if a band of robbers attack you, you just give them what they want instead of being Rajnikant and kick their ass, sorry, you won’t be able to do that. In short, to ace the Psych test, you really need to know the person you are, it is very much highlighted in the self description test. The TAT portion should contain stories highlighting work where your qualities emerge out, but in a natural manner.

Some of you might be asked to go for your PI on the same day, the rest can have the time off, enjoy a movie at PVR or just chill at the canteen.

Day 4 and Day 5: GTO!!! The best thing about SSB is the Group Task! The first event is GD. Again, the same policy had been applied by me as the PPDT discussion part. Listen, help, talk. It does not matter how much you speak, the quality of the matter is important.  Hence if you speak 10 useless points, it can be overlooked by 3 smart and useful points.

The GPE or group planning exercise is again very interesting. For this, I would only say, you are coming for a job as an Army officer, always remember, MISSION COMES FIRST. Use this principle to score points in GPE.

The PGT, HGT, FGT, Snake Race depends on the same factor as GD- Listen to ideas, apply your ideas and help others implementing their ideas. You cannot bear to be overbearing. The group will reject you instantly. Individual obstacles are important in bringing out your qualities of courage, stamina, self confidence, tact, planning. Lecturette is an important device to test your speaking skills and also the way you organise your thoughts. The Command Task is important as the GTO is assessing your ideas individually. I had the best GT experience this time and it was all due to loosening up a bit and enjoying every moment. Confidence is vital, team spirit is essential.

I had my PI right after the first day of GTO hence I went in my PT uniform. The President of the board welcomed me and asked me to sit. We hit it off immediately as he asked me to narrate my lecturette topic. He asked “How was your GT?” I replied immediately “Sir, excellent!” He went on to chat with me for an hour and 15 minutes asking me about my life from 10th Standard till date, asking a lot of GK questions and putting me through various situations based on the work I claimed to do in my PIQ. After the best interview of my life, I left, for the first time thinking that I might have a shot.

Conference Day (Day 6):

The most nervous day of my life, all of us reluctantly packed our bags and left for the waiting area. I looked at my bed and said “I will come back today.” All of us went to the conference waiting room and waited for our turn. As I was called in, I stepped inside a room full of officers, smartly dressed. The President of the board asked me which tasks I did well and did not do well, what preparations had I taken (when I did mention about Olive Green). He asked if I had any suggestions and then asked me to leave the room. It could not have been more than 2 minutes.

Finally, an officer came with a file to declare the results. When he said Chest number 15, I could not believe my ears. I was recommended. All these months of hardships finally began to make sense.

Dear friends, it is determination and the zest to live life king size that makes us leaders, because it makes us different. That is what will help to clear SSB- Determination, Introspection and leading a very tension-free life.

I have cleared my medicals and shall join OTA in October. I hope this will help you all. Be happy, be helpful, be brave.

JAI HIND!

10 Amazing Fighter Jet Camouflage You Must See

0
Fighter Jet Camouflage

Fighter Jet camouflage is the use of camouflage, typically in the form of light and color patterns, applied to military aircraft to make them more difficult to see on the ground, in the air, or to make their speed, distance or attitude harder to determine.Military camouflage is highly dependent upon environmental conditions and is primarily effective against human observers, though some electronic visual acquisition systems can also be confused. It does not hinder radar location or heat-seekingelectronics although the paints used may contain substances that can.

10 Important Points Every SSB Recommended Candidate Should Know

0
recommended ssb

10 Important Points Every SSB Recommended Candidate Should Know: Getting recommended may sure be like a dream come true for you, but if you think that you have reached your goal and thus can relax now, then you are wrong. Candidates tend to relax after they get recommended, and await their merit/medical. Of course, it is a time to celebrate, as you are a closer to your goal of joining the Armed Force, but read again, you are just one step closer to join, you haven’t yet reached. In reality you don’t get the stars, until you get them, i.e. until you cross the antim pag. After getting recommended, it is the time to be more careful, cautious, and in fact doing a lot of things, which you wouldn.t have done otherwise. Let us see what all you can/should do after you get recommended:

  1. Celebrate: Celebrate to the core. Do not compensate in celebrations. Celebrate with your family, friends and mentors. However bounce back as soon as you can. Caution: Lots of work ahead.
  2. Eat how much you want to, NO: May be these are the last few days till you say bye-bye to home cooked food or to your favorite restaurant, but you need to keep your eating habits in check. You’ll be pressurized to eat by your mom, will have loads of parties with friends to celebrate, but let them eat. The problem is if you gain excess weight, you’ll have difficulty in training, and then you’ll have to do extra rounds there, which are (I can vouch) more painful than not eating your favorite food.
  3. Exercise: We tell a lot of our aspirants to start jogging and mild exercises for SSB. You are on a higher level now, after your recommendation. So the exercises you do, should be of higher level too. Concentrate more on building up your stamina. The way the basic military training is,, in all the academies, it demands a lot of physical fitness, stamina. So it is strenuous, wouldn’t it be better to start a little now, so that you can catch up easily in the academy (nahi toh unhone ne to kara he lena hai kaise bhi).recommended ssb
  4. See the rising sun: This is not some life teaching. This is again to get you habituated with the academy schedule. Days in the academy start very early and wind up late.
  5. Prepare your mind: Training is a bit tough, more on the mental level, being almost cut-off with the rest of the world. Though you’ll have your course mates there, who’ll end up being your life-long friends. Better if you talk to somebody who has been in the training. This will prepare you mentally, and everything will not fall like a bomb in your sweet fairly land (Sadly very girly line, but guys too run away from the training! Duhhh!).
  6. Spend time with your loved ones: You’ll be off the grid for almost 6 months. You’ll love that time, but your loved ones will miss you (you’ll miss them too). Spend as much time you want to with your family, friends, classmates/colleagues, you’ll mostly see them after six months.
  7. Do all what you want to: Once in the academy, you’ll hardly get time to do whatever you want to do, like your hobbies or interests, so do all of them now. Surf the internet, read all what you have pending in your list, go out for a trip etc.
  8. Don’t stop applying for other entries: Yes you have been recommended, but you are still not sure whether you’ll get in the merit list or not. So, keep going for piled up SSB’s, keep applying for upcoming entries.
  9. Do not leave your job: If you are employed, do not leave your job instantly. Reason? See point number 8.
  10. Don’t forget us: Write your experience, give an interview, share your thoughts with us, and thus with other aspirants. Come on, itna toh banta hai!

Stay positive. All the best. Happy training (officer)!
