Kolkata based military intelligence while monitoring social media activities noticed that a serving officer named Lieutenant Shivam Pandey is very active on social media and has been posting a lot of updates on Facebook, Instagram etc. In fact the officer claiming to be posted at Chinar Corps was selling a book on Amazon and Flipkart.

Alarmed by the activities, the suspect was put under surveillance for over a month. It became evident that the person was not an army officer but an imposter. The suspect was mostly based in UP but was very evasive. Very specific information was received that the imposter will be coming to Kolkata.

Military Intelligence then laid a trap with Kolkata police and the suspect was arrested barely few kms from eastern command HQs at new market area. During his arrest, he was in combat fatigues of army officer. Raids were conducted simultaneously at nearby places and 4 more accomplices were also arrested. On being searched an Army officers Identity card, various Army letter pads, army uniform and army letter.

I hope everyone out there is going on pretty well with their SSB preparations. As we all are aware of the fact that the first and the foremost test in the SSB interview is the screening test comprising of intelligence tests (verbal and nonverbal) and Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PPDT).

We would like to bring to your notice a few common and dispensable mistakes that candidates commit during the Screening Test and end up going home the first day.

Top Ten Reasons For Getting Screened Out

  1. Not being attentive to the briefing given by the officials. As a result, candidates ask irrelevant doubts and make their case worse in front of the authorities in the SSB.
  2. Not coming prepared for the Intelligence Tests. You might be a rank holder in your school/college but when it comes to solving basic level intelligence questions within a fixed time, you have to come thoroughly prepared.
  3. Copying or talking during the OIR tests can also land you in turbulent waters. You might think that you are really smart to befuddle the authorities present, but the truth is that every candidate is being watched and any kind of aberrant action will be dealt with accordingly.
  4. Not being able to interpret the picture correctly in PPDT. The time is given to perceive a story in PPDT is just 30 seconds. If you do not focus at the picture, you will end up digging your own grave. Such candidates more often than not end up finishing their story incomplete.
  5. Making a wishful story is no way related to the picture. We just cannot anticipate the amount of expertise the assessors possess; they catch any sort of concocted story in a flash.
  6. Not reading out the story properly and being nervous during the narration. Any undulations and jitteriness in the voice will catch and will work against you. There is no substitute for practice in this case.
  7. Not qualitatively contributing to the group discussion during the PPDT GD. You are required to cooperate with the group and then come to a common story. I know there would be people making things worse but believe you me, the genuine effort gets rewarded sooner or later.
  8. Repeating your own story and not listening to other group members’ point of view. It is really hot and intense during the GD, but that’s precisely the challenge. You ought to control your nerves during the GD.
  9. Being adamant about your own points and not being acceptable of the ideas of other group members. This will only create a negative image of you in the minds of the assessors.
  10. Overpowering the Group, Trying to impose your ideas on others. This is one thing which candidate knowingly or unknowingly does during the group discussions. You do not become a gentleman by mere addressing each other as a gentleman. Your demeanor should reflect that you are a gentleman in the true sense.

Lieutenant General Baggavalli Somashekar Raju will take over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff on 01 May 2022. An alumnus of Sainik School Bijapur and National Defence Academy, he was commissioned in the JAT Regiment on 15th December 1984.

He commanded his Battalion during OP PARAKRAM in the Western Theatre and in Jammu & Kashmir. He also holds the distinction of commanding the Uri brigade along the Line of Control, a Counter Insurgency Force and the Chinar Corps in the Kashmir Valley. The General Officer also served as the Commandant, Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan.

During his illustrious career spanning 38 years, he has tenanted many important regimental, staff and instructional appointments in the Army Head Quarters and in field formations to include, Colonel Military Secretary Legal in Military Secretary branch, Brigadier General Staff of the operationally active White Knight Corps, Deputy Director General Military Operations & Director General Staff Duties.

Prior to taking over as  the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, the General Officer was tenanting the appointment of Director General Military Operations during the standoff on the LAC. The General officer is a qualified helicopter pilot having carried out operational flying in Somalia, as part of UNOSOM II. He is is also the Colonel of the JAT Regiment.

Indian army has published the list of recommended candidates who have cleared the SSB interview for SSC 58 Men technical entry. SSC Tech is a special entry for engineering graduates that allows them to apply for the SSB interview directly without any written exam. UPSC CAPF 2022 Age Limits

Age Limits :

(a) A candidate must have attained the age of 20 years and must not have attained the age of 25 years on 1st August, 2022, i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1997 and not later than 1st August, 2002.
(b) The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable.
(i) upto a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe.
(ii) upto a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates.
(iii) upto a maximum of five years for Civilian Central Government Servants in accordance with the existing instructions of the Central Government. Ex-Servicemen will also be eligible for this relaxation.

However the total relaxation claimed on account of Government Service will be limited to five years.

Candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. Mere issue of e-Admission Certificate to the candidate will not imply that his/her candidature has been finally cleared by the Commission. Verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents is taken up only after the candidate has qualified for Interview/Personality Test.

UPSC CAPF Exam Pattern

  • The written examination to be conducted by Union Public Service Commission comprise two papers. Paper I will be held from 10 a.m. to 12.00 Noon and Paper II will be held from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m (as per latest notification).
  • Paper I : General Ability and Intelligence – 250 Marks The questions in this paper will be of Objective (Multiple Answers) Type in which the questions will be set in English as well as Hindi.
  • Paper II : General Studies, Essay and Comprehension – 200 Marks In this paper candidates will be allowed the option of writing the Essay Component in English or Hindi, but the medium of Precis Writing, Comprehension Components and other communications/ language skills will be English only.
  • Candidates are given 2 hours time to complete 200 questions in paper-I carrying 250 marks and 3 hours to complete 6 descriptive type questions in paper-II carrying 200 marks.

The Union Public Service Commission will hold a Written Examination on 7th August, 2022 for recruitment of Assistant Commandants (Group A) in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) viz. Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force(CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The Examination will be held in accordance with the Rules for the published by Ministry of Home Affairs in the Gazette of India dated 20th April, 2022. The date of holding the examination as mentioned above is liable to be changed at the discretion of the Commission.

  1. CISF- Central Industrial Security Force is a premier multi-skilled security agency that provides security cover to nuclear installations, airports, seaports, space establishments, power plants, sensitive Government buildings and heritage monuments. Through UPSC CAPF exam, CISF will fill in 28 vacancies of CAPF Assistant Commandant Officer.
  2. BSF: BSF full form is the Border Security Force. It is a paramilitary force that guards India’s land Border during peace-time and prevents transnational crime. Border Guarding Force of India is recruiting 100 Central Armed Police Force AC Group A officer through UPSC CAPF exam. For detailed information on BSF recruitment check the linked article.
  3. CRPF: CRPF full form is Central Reserve Police Force. It was known as Crown Representative’s Police. It became CRPF after the enactment of the CRPF Act on 28 December 1949.CRPF is recruiting 108 Assistant Commandant Officer through UPSC CAPF exam.   5. SSB: The full form of SSB is Sashastra Seema Bal. It is Indian Central Armed Police Forces that provide security in border areas, prevent trans-border crimes, unauthorized entry into the territory of India and perform other duties assigned by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. SSB has also invited online application through UPSC CAPF exam notification 2019 to recruit 26 CAPF AC officer.   6. NSG: National Security Guard is a Federal Contingency Deployment Force to deal with anti-terrorist activities in all its manifestations. NSG commandos are an elite force, specially trained and equipped to be used in exceptional circumstances such as any serious act of terrorism.
  7. AR: The full form of AR is Assam Rifles. It is the oldest Central Paramilitary Force in India. The personnel in Assam rifles are recruited mainly to guard the plains of Assam region from the unruly tribes inhabiting in the surrounding hills.

To give an interview, you need to understand the psyche and requirements of the interviewer. You need to think hard on the aspects and the expectations that the interviewer is keeping from you and how well you are prepared to take this challenge.

To think like the interviewer, you should make yourself aware about the job profile and the requirements for which you are going to be interviewed about and what kind of people find the suitability in that respective line of work.

  • Be honest but learn to conceal information:

The interviewer will take some strange tactics to extract the information from you or to unveil the façade that a few of us carry. Remember, the interviewer has been on the other side of the table for quite a time and have interviewed countless candidates like us and that’s why he has the knowledge regarding our nature and behaviour.

He has been trained by one of the best institutions in the field of psychological assessment and that’s why you shouldn’t lie in front of him. Being honest will show him your true qualities and he will be able to assess on that basis. But, many a time we get involved in some circumstances and situations that we repent later and they can have a terrible impact on the interviewer’s mind regarding our personality. Such things should be kept away in the interview as you don’t want the interviewer to dwell on that grey area. For example, if he asks whether you have a girlfriend or not then you should probably say no.

The logic is simple as the army has a pretty traditional mindset and such things aren’t looked well from their point of view and they consider it as a hindrance in your studies. Further questions about your sexual activities can be asked and that can put you into some muddy grounds. Though candidates who have graduated can be affirmative about this question NDA and TES aspirants should refrain from saying so.

  • Know about the people around you:

It happens often that candidates stop at just knowing themselves and they make no efforts to know about their friends, family and people around them. An officer in command of his men is expected to know each and every one of them as its necessary that he should have knowledge about their potential, strengths, weakness, character, reliability etc.

How would you know who can stand by you in your difficult time or who will cast you away during hard times? You will have to observe them and draw your conclusion based on your concrete observations and evidence. Also, if you don’t have knowledge about the behaviour and nature of your immediate family members then you aren’t a good observer or you are simply not interested in them as a person. The army is the extension of the traditional family and it acts as one with Commanding Officer being called as the “Old man of the family”.

  • You don’t beg for the recommendation, you deserve it:

Many of us prepare with the aptitude that this job is really very necessary for us and if we don’t get recommended that it’s the end for our future dreams. Due to such thinking, nervousness develops in our minds which hinder our positive thinking and ultimately lead us to sabotage our preparation on the wrong tracks.

You don’t beg for the job as it will lower your confidence and you will prepare with a cautious and doubtful mind which can hamper your chances. If you will think that you have all the necessary aptitude and skills to get recommended that it will develop the deserving attitude in your mind. Such an attitude boosts your confidence and makes you believe that you are here to get this job since you are passionate about this and not because you need it badly. Remember, you never beg for a job. You deserve the job and that’s why you came all the way down there to give a test of your skills.

  • Find out about your hobbies and interests:

Most of us take some things which provide relief from our usual routine and gives us happiness. Such things when pursued in rather a serious manner are called as hobbies and when they are in the normal routine and we are slightly inclined towards them then they can be termed as interests.

For example, I write poems and short stories as they provide me with a platform to express my feelings. I have taken regular writing and been indulged into this domain from quite a time and have some offers to publish my poems. Such a thing can be termed as a hobby as I have taken it on a slight professional course. Hobbies are more productive in the sense of pursuing and personality development.

I also like to watch movies and read articles about various topics from time to time and it isn’t regular. It is my interest and I am fine without doing it for quite a time and pursue it when I have an ample amount of time. It can be termed as my interest. It’s totally fine if you don’t have any of the above as it’s not mandatory but if you such a passion for anything then it is expected that you must have a good amount of knowledge for the same.

  • Common sense should prevail and taken care of at times:

Being an SSB aspirant, it is expected out of us that we all possess necessary common sense and general knowledge about our surroundings. It is a must that you should have knowledge regarding the history, geography and polity of your city and state. You must possess the knowledge regarding the MPs, MLAs, Counsellor of your city, Legislative area and ward respectively.

You should have the ground and practical knowledge regarding the above areas and have a strong opinion about the same. In my first interview, the interviewer grilled me for 15 minutes regarding the MP’s performance in my city and told me to tell the pros and cons of his term. He may not ask exactly the same question but it is expected that you have a complete understanding of the place you are living in as simple logic of knowing the place that you are operating applies here.

  • PIQ is not the answer sheet, it is from where the question forms:

Most of us think that PIQ is an answer sheet while it is the complete opposite of that. PIQ is the piece of paper which provides the basic insight about your profile to the interviewer and psychologist alike. 90% of the questions that are asked from you found their origins from the PIQ only. You should have complete knowledge of what you are going to write in your PIQ form. In my opinion, download the PIQ form from the internet and practice filling it in a neat and logical manner.

Hey defence aspirants, I’m Siddharth Atmaram from Bangalore and I’ve been recommended for NDA-148 from 33 SSB Bhopal. I’m writing this article with the intention to help those who’ve been facing the SSB Interview. I guess my journey has been an absolute roller coaster ride which I hope will inspire and motivate others to persevere in attaining their goals in life.

My passion for the armed forces stemmed from reading a lot about World Wars, especially WW II  and the middle eastern crisis.  When it comes to the Indian armed forces, I give credit to that one long talk I had with my father that changed my goals in life. I’m a Karnataka state swimmer and I’ve always been very active in multiple sports. So I have always wanted a job where I can follow this passion and enthusiasm in something that was dynamic and one where I can lead and inspire people. My blind love and passion for the most glorious organisation of the nation can also be traced to the books about the Indian forces that I’ve read. I think every defence aspirant, just like me would have an instant smile of awe and respect when they see the uniform and that’s the same for me. My motive is to encourage people to introspect as to why they want to join, what’s that driving force that keeps you awake dreaming about joining, and analyze the major difference between a career as an engineer or a doctor and one in the armed forces. Think within as it will help you realize what you want from life and why you relate to the forces.

I then cleared the NDA 146 written exam and went for my SSB in Bhopal. I was fairly confident that I’d do well. I wrote a story in my PPDT regarding a world war 2 story that involved the Nazi Gestapo and other World War II events. But unfortunately, I got screened out on my first attempt and I left for Bangalore.

Again this paragraph pertains to those warriors who have been screened out or God forbid, to the ones who may. ‘Don’t give up or get disheartened’ –  yes this is what everyone says and it’s true. Keep your chest up and work on the areas that could’ve gone wrong which could be your story perception, narration, or group discussion. Repetitive practise is the key. Giving up would only mean low mental tenacity and that you can’t take failure positively.

I then gave my NDA 147 written exam and cleared it again and my SSB was again in Bhopal.

This time I gained knowledge by consulting a colonel in Bangalore and wrote a story that was mellow and realistic, my narration as always was great and my GD went well too.

And luckily I was screened this time. But the job was not yet over. I had the next 4 days to face. My psychology and interview went well. But my GTO was average. Nevertheless, I had hopes of getting through. But the result was otherwise. Now I felt really bad that all my efforts were in vain. And when you get rejected people say you must introspect. I tried and blamed my rejection on my performance in the GTO not being great in the practical tasks and I didn’t work too hard thinking about why I got rejected as a candidate.

Refer to this paragraph once you’re done with the next. I then had the tough TES SSB in Kapurthala and to my surprise, I got screened. I was elated as it was a big deal. I then went along the 4 days just like the previous attempt and this time I was a little more confident. I knew I had slightly more knowledge than the others but it wasn’t used in the right way. I overpowered people and this didn’t help my cause I was eventually rejected again.

Now, this got me thinking. Where am I going wrong? And when a friend of mine told me to think on the basis of a personality or introspect myself as a person I realised introspection required a certain direction.

(This paragraph is I feel the most important for the freshers or the repeaters)

Introspection isn’t a superficial task where you blame your rejection on the task done badly, it isn’t something that you can do and improve in a few hours.

Introspection takes a certain degree of maturity to realise where you’re going wrong as a person, as a personality, and work on it. Use the tasks as a reference to know how you reacted and how others perceived your performance in the group activities. Think deeply and ask yourself a few questions and the main thing I’m reiterating, be truthful to yourself.

I thought within and realised I was overly competitive which made me others down to make myself look like the best and the fact that I’m competitive always made me feel like every task there was a winner which isn’t true.

The other is that I wasn’t receptive enough and felt I was always correct in my perspective and though not deliberately, didn’t respect the others’ opinions.

I also felt I was very critical of myself in the tasks and became my own assessor.

I felt insecure about others not acknowledging my knowledge.

 I knew I had to work on these and I did. I changed certain aspects of myself to be acceptable to others.

The people you around make you the person that you are.

I felt my friends in my apartment complex, the friends I made along this journey shaped me.

They are literally like my brothers, they helped me know who I am, helped me identify the best in me and the worst too.

I cleared the 148 written the third and went for my SSB in Bhopal.

This time I went with a very open mind. I consciously decided to be a team person and be with my teammates.

My psychology went very well and my interview was the most different.

The officer asked me a lot of questions based on current affairs. He then asked me some questions my ability of reasoning. After the interview, he said he had enjoyed the brilliant interview with me. That’s when I felt I’d done well and also suggested points to crack the GTO, for he wanted me to clear this attempt. He advised me to be a team man and not to be overcompetitive. I had actually delivered witty and humorous answers in the interview which had impressed the officer.

Here is another tip from the above article. BE THE PERSON THAT YOU ARE, answer in the interview the way you would react in real life, be truthful and don’t force a false personality and be relaxed. Give your answers in a positive manner and one that shows your personality in its true colors. Show that you’re dynamic and congenial.

My GTO went superb.

Unlike the previous attempts, I fully led the team along with another in the Pgt and other practical tasks and during the command task interview, the GTO praised my oratory skills.

I have another suggestion here. Candidates say we should be cooperative and give everyone a chance. Here I disagree slightly. I think the SSB requires a good balance between you being cooperative and not losing sight of your aim.

The conference day finally came and before the result was declared, I began crying because it hit me hard that it was my last attempt and I felt terrible.

Then the officer came and finally called out my chest number and I felt something that can’t be put into words, an inexplicable experience. It was like my journey had come a full circle and was completed finally. That phone to my parents saying that I was recommended can’t be matched, the happiness I felt was on another level, and the fact that I could feel their happiness was absolutely mad.

And gentlemen, I’d like to end by saying ‘Be a person that suits the most glorious organisation in this world’!

Hi, I am Mohit Gupta, I recently got recommended from 19 SSB Allahabad, yes you heard it right Allahabad, I am sure you might have listened to myths about rejection centers and selection centers, so clearing this first, I would like to say there is nothing about selection and rejection center if you have that OLQ’s than no one can stop you. I am basically a Repeater, who got conference out from 17 SSB Bangalore, from here my journey got started.

I am basically an Army brat, my father was posted in Kota and later he was posted in Ladakh, so for educational purposes, my family decided to settle in Kota only, now I am a permanent citizen of Kota and for the last 8 years I am living in Kota only, so this was always asked from me in my both attempts that you are from Kota why you hadn’t tried for engineering and my simple answer was, sir I was never interested in doing it.

When I was in class 8, I had seen my school seniors and even my elder brother preparing for NDA Exam, this lets an excitement in me to know more about it, as I had done my schooling in Army public school Kota, so in our school, it was very common when anyone got recommended, He is invited for the motivational talk and in the 9th class, 2 seniors of our school got selected for NDA, so they were invited and I got an opportunity to listen to there success story after listening to them, I got very clear that what I have to do in my life, I hadn’t told this to anyone but inside my mind, I decided, as I had said my brother was preparing for NDA so I got a brief overview of NDA, its procedure, types of questions, syllabus, and much more and seeing all this I realized, if your 9th and 10th social science and science are ok than you will easily clear NDA GAT portion and about maths focus well in your 11th and 12th, you will not face any problem.

My journey was not that much easy and yes there are many ups and downs, I started my preparation in class 12th and start focusing on the September attempt, I kept my focus on covering the mathematics portion and NDA GAT portion, and by covering half portion of class 12 physics and chemistry portion, I went and successfully I cleared the exam, I was very excited for SSB, so I paid my complete focus on SSB only, I was too much undergone with the SSB procedure, that day and night, I was just practicing and preparing for it, I have a very nice friend circle along with them on an online platform we daily perform PPDT, GD, and other SSB tasks. There are some telegram channels like SSB online preparation and SSB practice, where I daily practice, and also an Instagram page of SSBCrackExams which helps me stay connected and motivated with my preparation, with all this I went to SSB at Bangalore and got conference out there, definitely, my preparation was not up to the mark that’s why I became a repeater but one thing was clear in me, whatsoever would be the result one day I will soon accomplish my dream, and with this motivation, I stand again and ready to fight with obstacles of life.

I came back home, started with my board preparation because I left everything when I was preparing for SSB, so I kept my focus on boards and left my NDA preparation and this let my next attempt of NDA 147 written was not clear, now everything till now was happening was just going worst, and somehow it was my fault only, so keeping this all in mind I started with my NDA 148 preparation and successfully this time I cleared it, now this time I decided of not repeating mistakes and with full zeal and confidence I started up again.

This time I got a TES entry also, so I went up there in Kapurthala and got documented out because my RTPCR report was beyond 72 hours, as it was up to 80 hours, you might be thinking, how it could be possible of getting document out for just 8 hours, so for this I will just say that’s why it is a TES entry, not NDA, at this point, I was very sad and talked to my brother, he encouraged me of not taking the stress and suggest me to put focus over NDA, as I was having my SSB in 2 months, At that time I was very disappointed but I don’t lose hope, I kept myself motivated, as I am having upcoming NDA SSB, I came back to my home and start preparing for SSB, this time I worked over my personality, and majorly I worked over my English and geopolitics and by this, I am able to clear SSB this time.

At last, I will just say that the internet is somewhat created a revolution, whatever you want is on google, the thing that it requires is to type and search, from NDA written to NDA SSB procedure, everything you will get on google, I can say that there is hardly anything that you will not find on google, everything is available, so utilize it in a good way. Even I cleared NDA written from youtube videos only.

At last, I would like to conclude with: If you are having it in you, you can do it.
