In a remarkable display of endurance, determination, and patriotism, a cycle expedition team from the Indian Army’s ‘Forever in Operations Division’ has successfully completed a grueling 680-kilometre journey across the high-altitude terrain of Ladakh. The expedition, which began on June 25 from the icy heights of the Siachen Base Camp, concluded at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass on Saturday.

According to a defence spokesperson, the 20-member team braved extreme weather conditions and treacherous terrain as they pedalled through some of the world’s most challenging mountain passes, including Khardung La, Fotu La, and Hambuting La. The expedition served not only as a test of physical endurance but also as a moving tribute to the spirit of national service and remembrance.

Along the way, the soldiers connected with the local population, especially the youth. As part of its outreach efforts, the team engaged with over 1,100 students from 11 government schools in remote villages and interacted with students of Ladakh University. These interactions focused on the legacy of the Indian Army, the significance of the Kargil War, and the sacrifices of Indian soldiers in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.

The expedition members also met with National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from the first and second Ladakh NCC battalions at Leh and Silmo. They shared motivational insights and highlighted how NCC helps shape disciplined, service-oriented citizens. The team leader further inspired youth by discussing career opportunities in the Indian Army and encouraging them to serve the nation with honour and integrity.

The defence spokesperson noted that the team received a warm welcome from both local residents and Army personnel throughout the journey. The enthusiastic support, cheers, and hospitality extended by civilians along the route reflected the deep bond between the Army and the people of Ladakh.

This challenging expedition stands as a powerful symbol of the Army’s indomitable spirit and ongoing efforts to foster deeper civil-military relations in the strategically vital region of Ladakh.
