The Agnibaaz Division, a prominent formation under the Southern Command of the Indian Army, is earning accolades for its proactive modernization efforts and exceptional operational performance. In a recent high-level visit, Major General APS Chahal, SM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the division, conducted a detailed review of the elite Ghatak Strikers Brigade. He praised their performance during Operation Sindoor, a joint counter-terrorism exercise held in March 2022 with the Maharashtra Police at Lullanagar, Pune. The operation aimed to improve inter-agency coordination and refine rapid-response strategies, enhancing regional security preparedness.
In line with the Army’s forward-looking approach, Major General Chahal also inaugurated an Online Exam Centre designed to support digital learning for future recruits. Complementing this initiative, a new 10-meter Air Rifle Shooting Range was launched, reinforcing the division’s emphasis on precision training and combat readiness. These advancements echo the Indian Army’s “Decade of Transformation” plan, which seeks to modernize 70% of its equipment by 2030, as highlighted in a RAND Corporation study.

To honor the legacy of the Kargil War, the division flagged off the Kargil Vijay Diwas 25 Bike Expedition, a 4,000-kilometer journey from Dhanushkodi to Dras. This expedition commemorates the 25th anniversary of the 1999 conflict and pays tribute to the 527 soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Historical reflections, including those reported by The Hindu, emphasize the importance of such tributes in preserving national memory and recognizing the human cost of war.

The Agnibaaz Division’s recent initiatives reflect the Indian Army’s broader goals of technological integration, soldier welfare, and strategic self-reliance. As India advances toward its Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, formations like Agnibaaz serve as enduring examples of professionalism, innovation, and readiness for tomorrow’s challenges.
