In a landmark moment for the Indian Armed Forces, the National Defence Academy (NDA) is set to graduate its first-ever batch of women cadets on May 30, 2025. This pioneering group of 17 women, trained alongside nearly 300 male cadets, signifies a transformative leap in gender inclusivity and military training in India.

The cadets underwent rigorous academic and physical training on par with their male counterparts, participating in all aspects of the curriculum—from parade drills and horse-riding to swimming and strategy exercises. Among them is Ishita Sharma, who hails from a non-military family and was studying economics when the NDA opened its doors to women. Her leadership and performance earned her the title of Division Cadet Captain.

Ishita described her NDA journey as life-changing, crediting the training for shaping her confidence and instilling strong leadership values. “The initial days were tough physically and mentally, but they became stepping stones,” she said, adding that the equal opportunities provided at the academy brought out the best in her.

Another cadet, Shriti Daksh, daughter of a retired Wing Commander, said the experience was emotional and fulfilling. “My father dropped me off at the NDA, and now I’m days away from earning the same stripes he did. It’s a full-circle moment,” she said.

Ritul Duhan, who has made history as the first woman Battalion Cadet Captain from the batch, reflected on the broader impact of their achievement. “We’re not just finishing our training—we’re laying the foundation for many more women to follow. NDA has created a supportive and inclusive environment that builds every facet of a cadet’s personality,” she said.

The cadets highlighted the intense yet enriching nature of their journey, noting the sense of camaraderie that developed through shared challenges. Some spoke of arriving at the academy as introverts, but leaving with lifelong friendships and a sense of purpose.

As these 17 cadets prepare for their passing out parade, they are set to enter Indian military history as trailblazers. Their successful graduation marks the beginning of a new era—one where women are not only welcomed but expected to lead from the front in the nation’s armed forces.

Indian Army Plans Troop Rebalancing as Pakistan Prepares to Return to Pre-April Positions

0

In the aftermath of the temporary pause in Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army is reportedly planning a strategic troop “rebalance” along the Pakistan border, as both nations explore options for de-escalation. According to a report by The Indian Express, Pakistan is also preparing to return its forces to pre-April positions, following earlier mobilizations near the international border.

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, had seen a surge in military preparedness and restricted movement along the borders. While the operation remains on hold, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the pause does not imply disengagement, stating that military alerts will continue at elevated levels.

Unlike Pakistan, which had massed large troop formations and military hardware close to the international border, India had limited its mobilization to repositioning certain units and equipment for strategic preparedness. These assets are now expected to return to their original locations, signaling a potential step toward de-escalation.

The report adds that both Indian and Pakistani armed forces are currently exploring confidence-building measures, with discussions underway to scale down troop presence and equipment within the next two weeks.

During the initial stages of Operation Sindoor, Indian troop numbers had increased primarily due to leave cancellations and restrictions on non-essential movement. With the situation now stabilizing, these curbs have been relaxed, and short-term training programs that were previously suspended are set to resume.

This phased normalization of military activity suggests that both countries are keen to avoid further tensions, while remaining alert to any developments that could alter the current security landscape.

Actor Preity Zinta has donated ₹1 crore to the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) of the Indian Army’s South Western Command, in a gesture of solidarity following India’s Operation Sindoor. The donation was announced at a special event held in Jaipur on May 24, where Zinta expressed her deep respect for the sacrifices made by the armed forces.

The funds were contributed from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) allocation of Punjab Kings, the IPL team co-owned by Zinta. The donation aims to support Veer Naris—wives of fallen soldiers—and to promote the education and well-being of their children.

Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. In the wake of the operation, Zinta’s timely contribution highlights a growing civilian initiative to honour and uplift the families affected by military operations.

Speaking at the event, which was attended by the Army Commander of the South Western Command and the Regional President of Shapta Shakti AWWA, Zinta said, “It’s both an honour and a responsibility to support the courageous families of our soldiers. While we can never fully repay the sacrifices made by our armed forces, we can stand beside their families and help them move forward.”

She further emphasized her continued support for the armed forces, saying, “We are incredibly proud of our soldiers and remain steadfast in our support for the nation and its brave protectors.”

On the professional front, Preity Zinta is preparing for her return to the silver screen with the film ‘Lahore 1947’, co-starring Sunny Deol and produced by Aamir Khan. Set against the backdrop of India’s partition, the film marks her first major cinematic appearance in several years.

Zinta’s philanthropic gesture has been widely appreciated, reinforcing the importance of public support for military families and underlining the powerful connection between cinema, social responsibility, and national pride.

Trump Claims Russia Stole US Missile Tech Under Obama

US President Donald Trump, addressing graduating cadets at the United States Military Academy, alleged that Russia stole America’s hypersonic missile technology during Barack Obama’s presidency. Speaking at the commencement ceremony at West Point, Trump claimed the US was the original designer of the advanced missile system and that significant quantities are now being produced.

“Eight cadets here today took on the challenge of designing their own hypersonic rocket. We are building them right now. We had ours stolen. We are the designers of it. We had it stolen during the Obama administration,” Trump said, shifting blame for the alleged breach to his Democratic predecessor.

Trump further emphasized his administration’s efforts to strengthen the US military. “We rebuilt it like nobody has ever rebuilt it before in my first term,” he told the class of 1,002 cadets, describing them as future leaders of “the greatest and most powerful army the world has ever known.”

Wearing his signature red “Make America Great Again” cap, the Republican president also took jabs at the Biden administration’s military policies. He stated that his vision for the military centers on direct national defense and eliminating political distractions.

“We’re getting rid of distractions and focusing our military on its core mission—crushing America’s adversaries, killing America’s enemies and defending our great American flag like it has never been defended before,” Trump declared.

He criticized previous US military interventions as misguided attempts at nation-building. “We’ve been led into crusades to nations that wanted nothing to do with us,” he said, asserting that future military efforts would focus solely on American interests.

Trump also condemned what he described as politicized programs such as critical race theory and gender identity training within the armed forces. “The job of the US Armed Forces is not to host drag shows or transform foreign cultures,” he said, referencing controversial events on military bases under the previous administration.

His remarks come amid growing global focus on hypersonic missile development and the strategic rivalry with Russia and China in next-generation weaponry. The statement marks a sharp escalation in rhetoric, as Trump accused Moscow of technological theft and vowed a new era of missile dominance under his leadership.

Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar Reviews Assam Rifles’ Readiness and Honors Ex-Servicemen in Manipur

Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Spear Corps, conducted an important visit to the Assam Rifles units stationed in Manipur to assess their operational preparedness amid the region’s ongoing unrest. His visit comes as Manipur continues to face the fallout of ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023, leading to the loss of over 200 lives and displacement of thousands.

During his visit, Lt Gen Pendharkar reviewed the deployment strategies, coordination mechanisms, and security protocols of the Assam Rifles. The paramilitary force, along with the Indian Army, has been at the forefront of efforts to stabilize the volatile region, conducting flag marches, area domination exercises, and working closely with civil administration and other security agencies to curb violence and restore normalcy.

The Corps Commander’s assessment aimed to ensure that the forces remain vigilant and proactive in addressing emerging security threats, while also being sensitive to the socio-political complexities of the region. His interaction with troops served as a morale booster, reinforcing the Army’s trust in their role during this challenging time.

Lt Gen Pendharkar also met with ex-servicemen from the region during his visit. In a gesture of respect and recognition, he lauded their contributions to the nation and highlighted the Indian Army’s renewed focus on veteran welfare. He underscored how the knowledge and leadership of veterans continue to play a vital role in community development and societal resilience. The engagement is part of the Army’s broader initiative, including the Veteran Achievers Award, which celebrates the positive impact of former soldiers in diverse fields such as education, environmental stewardship, and social service.

This visit reflects the Indian Army’s dual commitment to security and social stability in Manipur. While military operations remain essential to maintaining law and order, the Army also supports peace-building initiatives led by the government, such as the National Convention on Peace, which aim to mend fractured communal ties and promote dialogue.

Lt Gen Pendharkar’s presence in Manipur not only affirmed the Indian Army’s operational readiness but also reinforced its long-standing relationship with the people of the region, demonstrating a balanced approach between enforcing peace and fostering community engagement.

Indian Air Force Day Celebrations Return to Hindon Airbase After Operation Sindoor Success

0

The Indian Air Force (IAF) Day celebrations are set to return to the Hindon Airbase in the Delhi-NCR region this year, reinstating its status as the primary venue after being hosted in various cities since 2022. The decision comes in the wake of the resounding success of Operation Sindoor, underscoring Hindon’s continued strategic importance in India’s air defence network.

Traditionally observed on October 8th, IAF Day honours the valor and dedication of the force’s personnel. In recent years, the celebrations have rotated among cities like Chandigarh, Prayagraj, and Chennai to encourage nationwide participation. However, the return to Hindon highlights the airbase’s historic and operational significance.

Hindon Airbase was a key hub during Operation Sindoor, the precise military strikes carried out on May 7, 2025, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The airbase facilitated the deployment of critical aircraft for the operation, playing a central role in its execution.

To ensure operational security during the operation, commercial flights from the Hindon civil terminal were temporarily suspended. The terminal, which handles 16 flights daily mainly through Air India Express, had to halt its services as a precautionary measure during the military action.

The return of the IAF Day event to Hindon is seen as a tribute to the airbase’s vital contributions during Operation Sindoor and its longstanding legacy as a cornerstone of India’s air defence capabilities. The celebrations are expected to be grand, reflecting both the achievements of the IAF and renewed public confidence following the successful operation.

Two Army Brigades Deployed, Mobile Network Established to Enhance Security in Kathua

0

To bolster security and improve communication in the remote terror-affected areas of Billawar in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, two army brigades have been deployed and a mobile network has been established, Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced on Saturday. These measures aim to enhance surveillance capabilities and provide a greater sense of safety for local residents.

Addressing a public gathering in Billawar, Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), emphasized that the deployment of two armed brigades—one already stationed at Sarthal and another recently set up in Rampur township—will ensure round-the-clock army presence and seamless coordination between military and civil administration. “The brigadier and the district magistrate will maintain continuous liaison to ensure effective monitoring and response,” Singh added.

The mobile network installation marks a major breakthrough for far-flung areas like Lowang in the Bani region, which had been without connectivity since independence. The first mobile call was made on Friday evening following the activation of the new mobile tower. Singh noted that this connectivity will not only benefit residents and students but also enable the armed forces to maintain real-time surveillance in the region.

Singh also informed that the long-pending demand for widening the Dhar Road, which connects Samba and Udhampur districts, is now underway, with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) preparing to hand over the road to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for expansion. This infrastructure improvement is expected to boost both security and local development, especially following the recent India-Pakistan conflict.

Highlighting other regional improvements, Singh said 55 Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) schemes have been approved for the area to address drinking water shortages, with nearly 70 percent of the work completed, benefiting almost 15,000 households. Additionally, under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, 1,250 households in Billawar town will soon receive drinking water facilities.

Singh also proposed developing a Master Plan for the Sukrala Mata temple to attract tourism similar to destinations like Mussoorie, which could bring economic growth to the area.

Singh credited these developments to the consistent day-to-day follow-up and personal attention by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the measures have instilled confidence and a greater sense of security among local communities in Kathua.

Retired Army Colonel Arrested for Accepting ₹50,000 Bribe in Uttarakhand

0

In a significant anti-corruption crackdown, the vigilance department of Uttarakhand arrested a retired army Colonel who was serving as the District Sainik Welfare Officer in Bageshwar district for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000. The officer was accused of demanding the bribe in exchange for facilitating service extension-related work, officials confirmed on Sunday, May 25, 2025.

The case came to light after a complaint was lodged through the state’s 1064 toll-free number, alleging that the retired soldier was illegally seeking a bribe to expedite paperwork related to service extensions at the District Sainik Welfare Department. Following the complaint, the vigilance team initiated an investigation and laid a trap. On May 24, the accused, a resident of Rampur village in Tehsil Kapkot, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount.

The arrested officer has been booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the vigilance department has launched a detailed inquiry into the matter. This incident underscores the state government’s commitment to maintaining transparency and rooting out corrupt practices within its departments.

According to a government release, this arrest is part of a broader crackdown on corruption in Uttarakhand under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The administration has taken strict and continuous measures to tackle corruption, leading to the arrest of over 150 individuals in the last three years. The government claims that such decisive actions have strengthened public trust and sent a strong message to those engaged in corrupt activities.

The release further quoted that CM Dhami has made eradicating corruption his top priority since taking office. The zero-tolerance approach towards bribery and misuse of power has reportedly increased vigilance and caution among government officers and employees. This particular case is seen as a testament to the effectiveness of the state’s anti-corruption mechanisms and the growing accountability in public service.

Uttarakhand’s vigilance officials said the arrest would serve as a deterrent to others and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing their efforts to promote integrity and good governance. The vigilance department has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any corrupt activities through available channels to strengthen the fight against corruption in the state.

With corruption being a major challenge in many parts of India, such strong enforcement actions by state governments are viewed as essential steps toward improving governance and ensuring that public services are delivered fairly and efficiently. The vigilance department’s swift response in this case is likely to encourage further confidence among citizens in the government’s ability to uphold justice and transparency.

India Becomes 4th Largest Economy By Overtaking Japan

0

India has officially overtaken Japan to become the fourth-largest economy in the world, with its nominal GDP now standing at $4 trillion, according to International Monetary Fund (IMF) data cited by NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam. The announcement was made during a press conference following the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting focused on the Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative.

“We are the fourth largest economy as I speak. We are a USD 4 trillion economy, and this is not my data. This is IMF data. India today is larger than Japan,” said Subrahmanyam. He further noted that if India maintains its current growth trajectory, it is poised to surpass Germany and become the world’s third-largest economy within the next two to three years.

As per the April edition of the IMF’s World Economic Outlook report, India’s nominal GDP for fiscal year 2026 is projected to reach approximately $4.187 trillion, marginally higher than Japan’s estimated $4.186 trillion for the same period. This milestone moves India from fifth to fourth place in the global economic rankings.

The Top 10 Economies in the World in 2025 (Nominal GDP, in USD Billion) as per IMF World Economic Outlook, April 2025 are:

  1. United States – $30,507.22 billion
  2. China – $19,231.71 billion
  3. Germany – $4,744.80 billion
  4. India – $4,187.02 billion
  5. Japan – $4,186.43 billion
  6. United Kingdom – $3,839.18 billion
  7. France – $3,211.29 billion
  8. Italy – $2,422.86 billion
  9. Canada – $2,225.34 billion
  10. Brazil – $2,125.96 billion

India’s growth momentum continues to outpace global and regional averages. The IMF forecasts India’s GDP to grow by 6.2% in 2025 and 6.3% in 2026, compared to the global average of 2.8% and 3.0% respectively during those years.

Subrahmanyam also emphasized the role of India’s demographic dividend in driving future growth. “India is at a takeoff stage where it can grow very rapidly, as has been done by many countries in the past. Given this, and the demographic dividend that India is blessed with for the next 20 to 25 years, the Prime Minister has urged all states to prepare vision documents at their level,” he said.

The latest figures signal India’s growing influence in the global economy and reinforce its position as the fastest-growing major economy in the world.

Assam Rifles Conducts Full Military Honors for Fallen Soldier Naib Subedar Kanjabihari Singha

0

In a deeply moving ceremony marked by military precision and heartfelt emotion, the Assam Rifles laid to rest Naib Subedar Kunjabihari Singha with full military honors in his native village of Madaripur, Hailakandi district. The soldier, who served with the 27 Assam Rifles, passed away on May 22 in Shillong. The final rites were performed in the presence of fellow soldiers, grieving family members, and local villagers who came together to pay their last respects.

The ceremony reflected the time-honored traditions of the armed forces. The coffin, draped in the national tricolor and adorned with marigold garlands, was carried in solemn procession by uniformed personnel of the Assam Rifles. A ceremonial guard of honor was presented as a mark of respect, while fellow soldiers stood in formation to salute their comrade one last time. The ground, covered in a blue tarp, hosted a modest yet dignified memorial setup, including a signboard commemorating Singha’s service and sacrifice.

Assam Rifles officials spoke of Singha’s dedication and courage, emphasizing his role in maintaining peace and security in one of India’s most challenging regions. The force, often referred to as the “Sentinels of the North East,” has a long and distinguished history dating back to 1835 when it was established as the Cachar Levy. Today, it continues to play a pivotal role in counterinsurgency operations and border security, especially along the India-Myanmar frontier.

Military funerals are among the highest honors an active service member can receive in India. Although typically reserved for those in active duty or select high-ranking veterans, the full ceremonial tribute for Naib Subedar Singha underscores the deep respect and reverence the armed forces extend to those who serve with distinction.

The event served as a moment of unity and reflection for the villagers, many of whom expressed pride in Singha’s legacy. It was not just a farewell, but a tribute to a life spent in service to the nation. The Assam Rifles’ gesture reaffirmed their commitment to honoring their fallen and reminded the nation of the silent sacrifices made daily by those guarding its borders.
